Yep, these guys are a scam. Google their other # 888-817-2781 to read more about them, I put up a whole post. They called my office, telling my receptionist they need to come down & serve me papers. I get on the phone and tell them I've checked and haven't been filed on so there isn't anything to serve (and what kind of process server CALLS you first, anyway?) and suddenly they want to settle out of court. Won't give me an attorney's name, won't provide any documentation. I asked them for documentation and was told "absolutely not." That is an exact quote. They demanded I pay $625 within 2 hours or they would sue me, have someone serve me at work, the whole 9 yards. 100% scam. I have already filed with the California Attorney General's office. They are now posing as "AF Group" out of Lake Elsinore, CA.

They are a collection agency, but won't teel you that.  They get their info by doing a credit check looking for old credit card debt that is past the statute of linitations to sue you.  They then tell you that you have been sued by the credit card company and they will settle with you for a lower amount but you have to pay today.  This is a scam, they got the info from your credit report,  you do not have to pay them anything. Check to see what the statute of limitations is for "barred debt:"  in your state. Can be anywhere from 3 to 7 years.
they tried this on my daughter and this is what we found out.  Report them to your Attorney General's office.

I received a call on 1-26-2011 and was ask where I reside so they can serve me papers.  I asked what was this in regards too and the person told me it was about a legal issue and that I needed to call 888-490-4925 with a case number that was filed in the state I reside.  When I called the number, somebody answer the phone stating corporate office and asked me if I had a file number or case number.  Then I was transfer to a gentleman named Daniel walker.  He told me that there is a summons against me and a case is filed in court regarding an account with an specific credit card company telling me that I would be sued for the amount of 3000 and some odd dollars for a credit card opened in 2005 and went in default in 2008.  I asked him to give me a demand letter and at this point he told me that it was impossible to do so.  After talking to him for a while to find out about this debt, I told him that I am willing to pay but I am unable to pay until my paycheck arrive and he informed me that if I dont pay by jan 31 of 2011 that this matter will resume in court and that I will have to pay 1900 plus court cost which will add up to 3000(did you start to see inconsistencies).  I told him that I do not have any money and he told me that the most he can do is to settle the account for 900 and some odd dollars in which I accepted.  He informed me that a letter will be sent out and all I needed is to sign it and send it back to them.  This company sends me 2 letter with totally different information.  It has different account numbers, different address, and different balances.  I called them regarding the inconsistencies of the letter and the rep could not tell me why it was, WE then started to talk about the information on the letter and more inconsistencies came. I asked him why was it that this account is not showing in my credit report and he told me that they are not a collection company and therefore they do not report anything to the credit bureau but one of the letter they sent me states that this is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose.  I also asked him about the case number that they said they file in the state and county I reside in and he told me that because I call voluntarily to resolve this debt, they did not file the claim.  I informed the gentleman that as of this moment I do not believe him and I will see him in court because of the discrepancies.  I am sure the judge would like to see all the discrepancies there is.  People be careful with this company as I am sure they are doing unfair collection practices.

I got a call from these guys today.  They told me that someone was going to serve a summons before 4:00 from a case filed in federal court against me for fraud and failure to make a payment.  They gave me a number to call and a case number.  I called the number and he told me that I owed 3400, but he could settle for 1600.  I made arrangements to call him back tomorrow.  I am so glad I found this website.  I am going to call the Federal Trade Commission tomorrow instead of him.  This is ridiculous.

If they do not validate, they must remove any against you, legit or not.
If they refuse to give an address, they are scammers.  Legit collectors won't not give an address.

IF they give an address, send them certified mail your demand for validation.  If they don't validate, they cannot continue, legally.

Get caller ID, get phone numbers, document all.  As soon as you have enough evidence, get a lawyer or file suit in federal court.  That will stop those vultures.

Wow-does this all sound familiar.  I got the same song and dance from Daniel Walker.  He said they I would be summoned for a civil suit.  After much communication back and forth I found it amazing that my "original debt???" was 2520.15-but they would accept 1010.07-then they would except 783.96.  He wanted my credit card info before we got off the phone but I refused to give it to him.  He said many times I can't promise you this deal without your credit card number.  I told him I wanted an email stating what the supposed "debt was and he said he would "try" to send me something.  I did get an email about an hour later, but it was from a woman.  I have researched them and it looks like a scam and I have emailed the Federal Trade Commission.  There number is 877-FTC-HELP if anyone wants to contact them in person.  I plan to touch base with them tomorrow since I am supposed to pay my "debt" by tomorrow.

This is amazing.  Since it is tax time, debt collectors think they can collect.  lol I have'nt worked since 2005 and I owe the irs.  If they can't get their money, how in the heck does he think the collection agency is gonna get it.  I was able to get an address but can't seem to find this company.  Also, same person called me, Daniel Walker.  Here the kicker, he told me what address the letters had been coming to of course it was the wrong address.  I asked him how did you get my phone number but you don't have my address.  They are linked.  He told me that entered my name and ssn into a data base and thats how he was able to pull up my phone number.  I asked him how was this possible, He was asking for me a debt that was charged off 5 years ago.  If it was charged off, I would need a demand letter from the company which I did not recieve.  He also gave me the correct address then told me they only send to the first address on record.  I asked him again that it seems a little shady and he said he was from a law office and that they just get the files.  Also, if you ask a question and he puts you on hold, prepare to be there for about 15-20 min.  They want you to hang up.  I just told him thank you and I will see them in court.

I strongly recommend anyone who is being hounded by debt collectors go to the following website for information on the applicable laws, your legal rights and how to deal with debt collectors. If handled correctly, you might even end up making them pay you because of their illegal credit reporting & illegal debt collection practices.

I was contacted yesterday by this company...Atlantic Resource Management and told that they needed to verify my address to come and serve me with a summons to go to court. I was terrified and gave them some of my info and when I called back to talk to the lady that set me up, they told me she wasn't there that day so they connected me to Mr Garcia, at ext 222, who told me he was the head of the legal dept. I have found out some info on this company...they have over 40 names and do not own your debt, if you indeed have one. Their address is 32295 Mission Trail Suite 8385-20 in Lake Elsinore, California 92530. Please learn your rights as it has caused me so much trouble because I let someone bully me over the phone. Report them to the Federal Trade Commission and your attorney general's office as soon as you hear from them. This is a scam! And the number they contacted me from is 8884904925.

"a case filed in federal court against me for fraud and failure to make a payment"

They lied to you.  Federal courts don't handle consumer debt collection cases.  That would be filed in state court, even small claims court.

"He told me that entered my name and ssn into a data base and thats how he was able to pull up my phone number.  I asked him how was this possible,"

They are describing using a skip-tracing service, like Accurint or Choicepoint, or something similar.

That would also be consistent with many reports the Corona Scam begins with a call to a relative, even one half way across the country.  Credit report information might identify a possible old account to use in the scam, but it wouldn't normally identify relatives.

Good advice, but in my case, I have no debts at all, except my mortage, and have never missed a payment.  All previous loans in my life, I have never missed a payment either, and there is currently no outstanding debt.  So, what the heck are they calling me for?  I haven't returned any of their many calls, yet.  I really don't think they are ligitamate debt collectors.  They must be SCAM artists.
