With much respect to Lamet and Stranger, there is more to consider than the advice offered thus far:
A. Get an attorney to challenge claim .... The dispute part is a must. The problem with NACA is too many members only maintain a presence to attract bankruptcy clients, the pedestrian sort who could not fight a FDCPA case with a flaming spear. Sometimes your best choice is DIY mode.
B. Negotiate a settlement .... This assumes a lot of things which may not be so, such as the consumer agrees the debt is rightly calculated or even valid, and the collector won't adversely skew the deal or welch on it later or resell the remainder to some other lawbreaker. And let's be straight, WWR is a favorite attack dog of Discover, which looks the other way as violations are committed routinely.
C. File bankruptcy .... This for most is a parachute ripcord you should wait to yank until the bitter end, lest you tear the silk. Debtor's exams are no fun, and there is a chance with violations wrapped in a Fair Debt suit to diminish or kill the claim, possibly win a BK lawyer fee subsidy. (YMMV)
Well, there is a "D", as hinted. Find yourself the arbitration clause in the DFS contract, or any card agreement, and learn to invoke it. Removal of court jurisdiction is the greatest defensive move for alleged debtors yet conceived for many reasons your patient research will reveal. The JAMS forum in particular creates fees for the aggressor banks which would easily overwhelm the amount DFS wanted from Bob up there. Always negotiate from a position of strength, not the conveyor belt of typical pro-lender litigation.

Crooks stole $15K from my bank account. I got a copy of the order from the bank and my name isn't even on there. I am listed as an "other party". My social security number isn't on there, and the bank said that thye don't have to go by the social security number, just the fact they have my name on the paperwork means they can steal the money and wipe me out.
Needless to say I took some of what's left and opened a new bank account and I am getting rid of my bank because they allowed these people to steal when they can not match the people on the judgment and their information to my information. I guess WWR saw I had a little money from a public record of something and just added me to their crap. I am closing in on retirement and had the extra money for my celebration vacation. I have been saving that money for 10 years and these crooks can just walk in and steal in one day and think there will be no repercussions.
And as far as having your day in court... they never served me. In fact I have all the court records and the addresses they claimed they served me at ... I never lived there.
Thankfully my brother is a lawyer...

These people are nothing more then bottom feeders, they are below the scum on the earth. DONT EVER SEND THEM A CHECK, OR ANYTHING WITH YOUR BANK ACCOUNT. they purchase old debts from creditors that are out of business, then ruthlessly try to collect on it. If they do get a judgment, they will freeze your bank account. they froze mine for double what the judgement was for. I am still trying to sort it all out. they waited till a 3 day weekend so I cant get any answers from anyone,(my bank included) till tuesday. DONT TRUST THEM, CONTACT AN ATTORNEY.
help me out here-so they are not a real law office? We are getting calls from them for Discover. I am well aware of all the scams out there and am very cautious with every call we get. Info on the web about them is conflicting.
My understanding has been that WWR itself is able to sue in select 'footprint' states, and like many of its peers, boasts of linkage to an "attorney network" for filing suit in the remainder of the nation. They will likely hire local counsel and try to mask that relationship while providing whatever paperwork the attorney will need, which rather bends what the FTC expects of collection agents.
If WWR has your name on a DFS account, expect a summons by next Spring. DFS simply loves using the courts to collect, and WWR is a favorite attack dog. Be ready to document all phone contact, in which they are prone to hand you FDCPA violations to use as ammo. In your written response I would also suggest invoking an applicable DFS contract arbitration clause as I've discussed prior. The DebtorBoards forum has volumes of material on this topic and also quite a few threads mentioning WWR.

First, the amount of $4,800 is probably too low for your local County Court, consult your Court's clerk to see what is the minimum, for example here where I live, amounts below $5,000 have to be sent to the local small court. Attorneys can not sue you in small courts, that is the reason those attorneys are trying to scare you. Do not sign any papers or documents, call your attorney, if you don't have an attorney make an appointment, remember the first consultation is free. If you owe more than $20,000 to many collection agencies and they are making your life impossible, file for Chapter 7 now, do not wait any longer .. is fast and easy, most attorneys charge between $1,700 to 2,000 for the whole BK proceeding. You don't have to pay upfront, most attorneys accept several payments. Good luck!

You can beat these guys with some knowledge from the retired attorney of 20 years....easy...just takes a little reading. Become a student of Ed Rivera and best them all....no debt. www.edrivera.com. Isn't it better to learn how to be the fisherman lawyer rather than paying a fortune for the legal fish?"

Look folks...Discover, Chase etc. sold your $10,000 debt for $100...yep...wrote it off and sold it to SCUM lawyers like Weltman. Why? Because Chase/Discover don't want their high priced attorneys involved as $10K is barely worth it in legal fees. Ahhh...but THEY...Chase DIscover are the NAMED parties in the action. So RESPOND TO THEM ONLY ...their PRESIDENT...WITH LEGAL THREATS and eventually you'll get a letter from Weltman telling you to address only Weltman's atorneys. What was that? Answer: The big legal counsel at Chase and Discover were getting PO'd at Weltman's inability to DISTRACT you. Ignore Weltman and keep HITTING the WEAK spot. Every time you WHACK Discover President SHE has to get her attorney's involved...and these guys charge that BITC& $500 per hour EASY. Just keep HITTING them with certified mailers addressed to HER personally.
I'm sorry, this Rivera sounds like another loon whose mistrust of government has him hairsplitting America's founding documents for anything which might at a long shot weaken Congressional and Presidential authority. He claims, "We know Satan the devil controls all governments". He's great fodder for Snopes and The Straight Dope.
I'd agree that collectors are hired like henchmen to draw scrutiny away from a huge source of debt problems. But it is not a given that all debt is sold, else those same creditor names would never appear so often as plaintiffs in our civil courts. AmEx and Discover are known to clutch their defaulted accounts for years, and the entire business model of Capitol One is murmured to be a trap-and-shoot .... which is to say roping people into a seemingly harmless debt and later suing for triple the original credit limit.
However, being devious and being illegal are two different things. To attack the original creditor without a dangerous blowback, one needs an actual legal violation. There are plenty of ways to run up the debt lawyer's bill without sabotage to your own case through dubious accusations.
my name is rachel hayden i owe student loans and currently trying to pay them off. one of my students loans went into default and assigned to your company. i cannot make the thousands of dollar down payment your company wants me to make. i am a single mother of 4 childern just getting back on my feet. i have talk to several people no one can come up with anything better then paying 1200 for two months wish i had that to give maybe if you break it up over a couple of months??? my goal is your goal i want to resolve this pls if you can help in any way???
Ms. Hayden, it would help you enormously if you would actually study a thread before you comment, not to mention pay attention to the kind of website you've loaded from a random strafing run on a search engine.
You *are not* addressing WWR or your original creditor. These forums are strictly for call recipients to share their findings. This is not a secure channel. You've given away your phone number where any criminal can harvest it. You should ask Admin for a redaction.
Next, you need to realize that a debt collector like WWR is not interested in your sob story, only how fast you can pay up without question, before you notice that their claim is invalid in about six different ways. You need to stop grinding your hands with worry over your thin bank account and raise proper disputes on real paper with your debt collectors. You cannot take their word on face value.
I have dealt with them in the past; they are nasty and rude; I don't owe them. They are snakes and play dirty. CYA...I have never owed them, and am telling you this from a biast point of view. You will not fair well with them, if you don't know your legal standing.
