Microsoft: There is something wrong with your computer...

Recently had a call too from someone claiming to be from the Microsoft helpdesk. Apparently our computer was sending emails to the Microsoft company, and someone claiming to be from California (which was weird, since I'm Dutch, the country code was 0042, instead of 001... *sigh*) would be happy to distantly log onto our pc and fix this issue. I've had people sending me mails I didn't want to recieve, and solved that issue, and I'm no ICT guy, so it seems a bit strange a tech company can't solve this issue on their own.... So just hung up. Then yesterday, recieved another call, but as soon as I heard the Indian version of "Hello", I just hung up. Still, I wonder what story they would've made up this time....

I live in Canada and have received calls from them on my home and cell. I do not believe they are calling from phones though. There are many sites online that you can use to place a call with whatever number you want showing up. A friend of mine was able to call another friend and had California number show up. She did it from Canada, so it is possible with a computer that you can do this.

Not just that, any coward can use a PBX device to spoof numbers. They even use spoof cards, spoofing websites, etc to call people. Their cubicles are equipped with VOIP devices given to them by their masters who control them like a leashed rabid dog.

Yet another caller from India trying to infect my computer - when asked what the specific error messages were, he said he didn't know, but could only find out by my pressing the Windows key + R, which I didn't do. The conversation then shifted to which viruses he was infected with and he bagan dropping various permutations of the F-bomb.

Scammer -- NEVER do Windows + R and give these scammers access to your computer.

Apparently the FTC didn't sue enough scammers

On 10-29-12 www.v2serve.com used 877-805-6353 and claimed to be calling from Independence Missouri which was pronounced "Misery." The whois.com for www.v2serve.com says the registrant is in India.

I had the same problem just yesterday, except my mother agreed to give them some money so they can protect the computer. We thought it was real because they had our computer id, guess its not real luckily they shut down everything.

I fell for this scam--shame on me!!!   The East Indian- sounding man told me how to see how many
viruses, infections I had by going to eventvwr--supposedly I had 23000!!!!!!!  I guess my brain was
dead that day!  Because I fell for it and even gave them $219.00 for "their service" and a a 5 year
contract on a security software--I can't remember the name of the security system but I already had
the free one which seemed to be working OK.
I checked the software site and I did have a 5 year contract so that part was OK  (I wrote the address
myself--didn't rely on the scammers).  However I was looking at another site similar to this and found
out about this scam; I called my computer repair person and she cleared out and checked out my
computer--she found their access to my computer was still ON my computer. She deleted the $219
software and installed the free security software that comes with my HP computer.  So far, so good.

Most recent windows computers have the same number.

They use that to trick people into thinking they are real.

They use Event Viewer to trick people into think they have viruses instead of normal application errors.

If she let them have control of the computer you need to have it cleaned by a local shop. Sometimes the protection program is crippled to overlook their own malware.  If there was banking or credit card information on it, those account numbers need to be changed, also the passwords of all online accounts should be changed from a clean computer.

Received a phone call from 'teche4pc' stating that I had a virus alert on my computer. Indian man stated his name was Sam and was calling from Washington. He used the phone number 19732006677. I am from Tasmania and see no reason that a problem on my computer would be referred to the USA. When I informed him that I was on the Do Not Call register, he stated that he was only concerned about the problem with my computer. I told him that I believed he was a scammer and he appeared to be offended by this implication. I then informed him that I was going to report him. This resulted in him hanging up quickly.

The lady with the accent called at 10 pm EST last night.....insisting I get on my computer now  because of "Windows errors sending us messages all the time....you must fix now." On speaker phone with her being recorded by my son's cell phone...when asked she said her name was Jennifer Nixon and she was in Alabama.....which made all of us laugh really loud and when I asked to speak to her supervisor...his name was Shawn Anderson...BA HAHAHA.  They would not listen to me....or us....she and he just kept telling us to go turn on our computer and check.....we of course pulled the internet cords when they first started talking.  Really....wish they would stop...I was asleep when they called!

They called me today. I would have thought they'd give up this scam by now, seeing as it's been all over the news months ago. Same old song and dance, caller was female with a thick Indian accent, saying that she was from Microsoft Service Center calling because of the "computer you are using." I just laughed at her and hung up.

Scams about "viruses" on our computers, debt consolidations, "winning" various store gift cards, so on and so forth from the same general area of the world. Is anything ever going to really be done about these crooks? It's so tiresome.
