So that's whats going on. Got a call this morning asking about my copier number and got hung up on when I said I didn't have one. Couldn't figure out what good a copier number would be to a scammer so googled phone scam and photocopier.
This should be so easy for governments to stop if they wanted. Start throwing the b*stards in jail and it'll stop (or fining individuals and confiscating everything they own). Can't understand why they don't crack down on this. It would be such a huge political win. They'd get the support of people from every political party and the only complainers would be scammers themselves.

We have a special vm box we send these people to. Works every time. They think they are getting forwarded to the president of the company. Instead they get forwarded to the FCC's complaint line. Never get a second call from anyone sent to that VM box.

I've been getting call for a while. Today they called 3 separate lines at my job. First my big boss answered and asked for a number to call them back and they said no then she asked is this the toner scam and the woman replied yes. My boss then asked to be removed from there list and the woman said "No were going to keep calling and calling you forever". Then a man called my line and I asked him is he from our copier company and he said yes. I asked the name of his company and he said "your mamas company called these nuts in your mouth" I replied "how original you f***ing moron, real mature" then he called my other bosses line and she just hung up. They are really getting ignorant. Next time I will have something better to say. I'll put them on hold and then have a man get on the phone and say there from the FBI and have located the call and have there place surrounded cone out with there hands up before we break down the door. Would love to see what they do then.

This person calls back with a different number and says "you f***ing b**ch. Yep these folks are real charmers. Hopefully these kind of people will be standing next to a metal fence when a lightning storm pops out of no where.

This has been going on for more than 25 years, the correct name is paper pirates or toner phoners. They misrepresent themselves and believe it or not it is a billion dollar business a year. It's disgusting and our government won't do [***] to stop them. They are boiler rooms full of phones constantly calling. What gets my ass is we've been collecting evidence for years to stop them and nothing has been done and they continue to operate under the same names. Their only answer is warn the consumer to be alert and not give out information. Some are really good at con and get customers on automatic shipments and of course no one will say anything in fear of losing their job. There is a sucker born everyday and once they get the right person at a company that spills their guts with model#,ID# name of the service company and in some cases the technicians name. Once they have any of that info, your a sitting duck. Say the normal price of a bottle of toner is $65.00, they convince the customer the price is going up and to stock up now and sell the same bottle for $425.00 and shipping of $200.00. You would be amazed at how many people have fallen for this, that's why they keep coming back. I blame the phone companies for allowing this to operate. They know damn well that when they get a call to set up 100 phones, they are setting up a boiler room telemarketing fraud outfit. Once they make their money they shutdown and move on. These people are just scum and they will get nasty on the phone and swear at you. When we received calls we had a canned air horn and blew it through the phone, I think they were deaf for a month. Bottom line is do not give out any info and warn everyone in your office about these scams. Most times once you ask for their phone number, they hang up.
Yep -- they used to do this with fax paper, too, way back when there was such a thing as fax paper.

They called me this morning. She said Hi and her name and that she needed to know the number on the front of my copier. I asked her which copier and she said in a very monotone voice the one that collates -and so then I asked her if it was the color copier? (seeing as all of my copiers collate) she said yes. I went back to check and then came back and asked her what company she was calling from seeing as if she is from the company we get it from she should probably have that information. duh...when I asked her if I could get the company she was calling from she said no and hung up. It has been a long time since I got one of those calls. The last place I worked we never got a call - just a bill for stuff that we had never ordered or ever recieved. I thought that this scam was over....

Jennifer from "customer service" called and when I told her to stop calling she said "No", I said "Yes" and hung up on her. The dumb broad proceeded to call right back and try the same thing. I always get hung up on when I ask "which copier?" We've got about 8! LOL

This might be the oldest telemarketer scam out there but people still fall for it. The company I work for fell for the scam which was stupid because all supplies for the copier was part of the lease agreement. I was answering the phone this morning when a woman called asking for the model number on my copier. My mom used to talk about "Central Supply" calling where she worked and that was 30 years ago.

Ohhhhhh boy fun!
These people keep calling and they actually had MY NAME!! They asked for me specifically! Are they getting smart and utilizing people's websites??
The first time I *almost* fell for it (I actually got up to check, but then I was like...'hmmmm...') so when I asked "Who is this?" They said "Supplier Depot. We supply your toner.." and I said "Uh, no the company we lease them from does that..." and he said "Well, we supply it for them..they asked us to contact you directly." and then I said "Well, who is 'them?' What's the companies name?" "*Click*"
Then they called back today and specifically asked for me. I answered the phones and was like 'uh...Jim from where?' "Imaging Products. We need to know the model number of your copier - not the small ones but the one you use most frequently." "Where are you calling from again?" "*Click*"
Now I want to [***] with them. I am going to tell them the totally wrong printer info so they can waste money sending me toner that I can simply put "return to sender" on so that way they have to pay postage.
I've been scammed before where they just sent us fake invoices of toner they never even sent. I never paid it, but I think that's part of the scam...like big companies get toner invoices and they probably don't even notice and just pay it. NOT on my watch!
