They were heavy in calling in years past and my company hadnt gotten them in a long time. Now they are calling with their ID blocked. Of course i hang up on them when they try to act like they are your Copier Rep and need the model number off your copier. We had got rid of our copiers long ago!! But even if we did uhh our rep would have that info as they would have been the one that leased it to us. I am just wondering if anyone has gotten these calls and had it increased in the past months. Or anyone fell victim to the call and what happened?

What they will do is send the toner to your office or place of busines with an invoice and demand that you pay them for something that you didn't order simply because you gave them the number for your copier. I had gotten several calls like this before and when they ask for the number off the copier, I ask them, "Which one? We have about a dozen copiers," and they hang up on me. I haven't gotten a call from them for quite a while. But, that's how I handled it. The calls we got were from: United Supply Source 43759 15th St. West, #144, Lancaster, CA 93534 - ph: 661-723-9000 f: 661-726-9002. Hope this helps. :-)

The Indian voices I spoke to confirmed they were from United Supply, but only after I pressed them at length to tell me who they were. They had also blocked their name and number on the caller ID. They insisted they weren't trying to sell me anything, but that they were simply trying to forward technical updates. It was obviously a scam. The 4 minutes I spent on the phone with them I can't get back. Do yourself a favor and hang up right away.

I simply told them a brand of copier that did not exist (Daewoo 2343psx-r) and they spent time trying to figure out which toner would work. They said they would call back. I never received another phone call from these rip-off artists again.

Caller: Hi my name is Jeff and I am calling about your photocopier today! Me: uh huh Jeff: How is your copier doing today? Me: (thinking to myself should i tell this scammer we dont even have a copier) What company are you with? Jeff: What company I am with? Uhh (he laughs) I already told you that!! and hangs up.
I really hate these scam calls! I see now they are trying to be morer clever when first talking to you but ends the same everytime you ask what company they are with...they hang up!

This is a vintage scam now enjoying a resurgence, as this TechRepublic article from 9.7 years ago should indicate:
A phrase search on that term "phoner toner" yields innumerable recent articles warning of the ruse. This is apparently our punishment as a nation for failing to achieve the "paperless office" state.

We should also mention that, similar to the old consumer mail order rule, the FTC has declared that businesses need not pay for or return any supplies they never ordered. The scammers can call with all the fury and lawsuit threats they like, but the goods are still considered a gift.
Since the scammers tend to procure the cheapest and crummiest supplies a Chinese boat can offer, what they send is a worse "gift" than white cotton underwear at Xmas.

They call our business less often now, it comes in spurts where you'll hear nothing for 3 months then they call 5 times in a week. The last one was quite persistent, even insinuating she worked in "corporate compliance" LOL (smart one there). I'm quite awful about it now, sometimes giving them a model number that spells out something rude, or making snarky remarks til they hang up. I can't believe they've been pulling this crap for so long!

Have received this scam call several times a year and fortunately I had read right here on 800notes - 16 ways you can be phone scammed (see right and scroll down to latest articles) So everytime they call - we tell them we KNOW they are scam and to give up calling - its been a while since they called last.
Just the other day - they called me - when I stated we know about the scam - he callled another secretary and the next day a 3rd secretary -who asked for a call back number and was hung up on.

When they ask for the copier serial number, tell them they are Scammers and the FBI is monitoring calls to you from them. They will stop calling. Been there done that and after two of them and my advising them the FBI is collecting info on the calls, we haven't had a call about office supplies since.
Also have some fun with the idiots, when they start trying to get info speak in a fake Chinese accent :Chines restaurant, your order please and be adamant of about them ordering". the crap will stop bet on that. ;-)
I use the fake Chinese restaurant on all telemarketers, and I don't think I have had a telemarketing call in over a year, they will scrub your number quickly I love messing with scammers and telemarketers heads. Make a game of it and if you can record the call and share it with others online using the fake accent tactic, let other people enjoy it....
I say if they are going to screw with you, the deserve to be screwed with back and have fun at their expense.

Here's a good model number to give; 3AT 5H1T A55 H013 - but knowing those morons, they won't figure it out!
This is apparently our punishment as a nation for failing to achieve the "paperless office" state. . Good one, Resident47! ;-) I wondered what happened to that office.

Ah, the "I need the number off your copier" calls are once again rearing their ugly heads! I got two of them this morning. Both calls were "caller ID blocked" which I'm always suspicious of and considering the fact that we actually did have some trouble with our big copier yesterday I was on guard. The first call the gal tried to tell me it was the copier in our customer service area and when I told her we didn't have a customer service department she became flustered and said she had the wrong number. The second call came in with in the hour of the first and he was very quick with telling me where he was calling from but I always have an out with them especially when all he said was he was calling from "The Service Center". As I said in my previous post, I always ask which copier they are referring to since we have about a dozen of them and that shuts them down. Well, this guy thought he was going to be slick and say, "The big one that everyone uses." I said, that since we had about a dozen, he would have to be more specific on which one it was. He too got flustered and hung up on me. If it happens again I will give them the model number I put in my other post!
