The V in the Caller ID number field usually signifies a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) call, and the numbers include date and time information as well as other identifiers.
There are legit uses for VOIP calling. They are not all scammers, but I'd guess that the majority are, just based on the sheer number of telecriminal calls from autodialers.

The ONLY way to curb robocalls is with a reCAPTCHA challenge like more and more websites are using. It could be easy adapted to phone calls as well. But the FCC and wireless carriers refuse to allow it.
how you know they refuse to allow it but you'll probably never return to answer me.

I been getting the caller id V with numbers. I "never" answer the phone and let rhe phone call go to my answering machine. They do not leave a message. I have blocked the phone number but then they call again with a different phone number. I have reported these phone calls to the FTC but don't know if it will help. They can keep calling but I will not be answering. Definitely scammers.
I got one this morning, V1080910430067677671.
Btw, I appreciate this site, no matter how old posts are. How else would I have found out what this is?
Thanks to moderator!
i believe this V number is a Verizon company phone & the conversion to 9 digit standard number. I always block them
V20118230100018, VI0000000001, Vrandom #, been traced to several VoIP address end with 104.31.77.XXX belong to V-PBX system capable of making multiple outgoing phone calls with fake ID V-random numbers in the different recorded voice in multiple languages English / Spanish and French. Further discover the system register to an unknown party somewhere in the Caribbean region with no name but have listed several hidden phone # in the hidden DAT file some where in u.s state +1 6265495758, 6263311195.
V calls.....you do know that the first digits represent the date and time right? You cannot block them as the next time they call will have a NEW date and time....thus a new number.

And this little tidbit of information has been repeated over and over in the previous 78 pages of posts.
As to blocking, what you state is true only if you are blocking based on the Caller ID name information. If a phone number is also displayed (and my experience has been that it usually is) you can block based on that and stop future calls from that number regardless of changes in the displayed name.
