- BettyBTW, Amy didn't have an accent and claimed to represent edollar direct. She wanted to record a "legal statement."
- BA| 4 repliesOk, I just received a threatening call at work from a Steven Scott suppose to be a lawyer out of Texas. He said he represented Cardnal Managament and that I needed to make restution for a old pay day loan or I was going to jail the number was 886-266-1667 can they call at work???

If they are a legitimate debt collector, they can call you at work but if you tell them your employer does not allow these type of calls at work, they are required to stop under the FDCPA laws.
The problem, however, is that also under the FDCPA, they may not falsely represent themselves as law enforcement, a government agency or a law firm. And here's the biggie--under FDCPA they CANNOT THREATEN YOU WITH JAIL. This makes me think you are dealing with someone who is NOT a legitimate debt collector, in which case, you may never get them to stop because they simply don't care if they are breaking the law.
Either way, just google F.D.C.P.A. so that you can fully arm yourself with your legal rights under debt collection law. This is the best way to spot either a scammer, a debt collector operating outside of the law or the real McCoy.
Best of luck to you! - Resident47 replies to 2Creative Not 2 Get EvenForewarned is forearmed, agreed. The propensity of a collector to create the worst legal violations tends to track closely to its inability to prove the debt claim. Huge bluff, weak hand.
One other consideration is that some domestic US collection agencies mirror the overseas fakers both in pursuing "hot check" claims and using illegally hostile tactics. Those agencies remain "legitimate" in the sense that they keep their licenses where needed, they haven't yet been sued out of existence, and no one at the desks has gone to prison for extortion dressed as "debt collection".
It is therefore vital to try to make a positive ID of any such collection agency, and find a valid address for sending your dispute letters and legal summons. An overseas thug usually can't be found and cannot be touched by our consumer laws. A Buffalo Bully or a Florida Flimflammer has fewer places to hide.
Random search results on the regulatory acronyms frequently lead to faulty advice. You might want to start studying at the source.

- Ronni| 2 repliesGot a call on 1/18/12 from 1-877-913-2578 saying that I owed for a PDL from 2008. They had all my info. Scared me into paying 100 of it, but when i went home to research the company I can't find out anything. They are sup. to take out the balance tomorrow. Think I am going to call my bank today and cancel that card. Caller said her name is Carol Long and she was from the Processing and Summoning Division. That I needed to tell her where she could meet me to serve me and to call the above number and ask for the Legal Dept. I checked my court dockets and do not see myself on either civil or district so am thinking this must be fake. Any advice?
- Nat replies to Ronni| 1 replythey said they would serv me in 24-48 hours that was last Tue. It is a scam. Do the research do not pay any one without proof of debt. Even if you owe a pay day loan and pay these ppl most likely you are not paying the right person. I have been dealing with this since May and they keep telling me they r sueing me. They R not to b trusted.
- Nat replies to NatUSC has been known as ACS,Brienstien and assoc and many other names do the research you will see.
- Payback replies to So...has it been passedIt spread from here to overseas. The only way they'll get our information is by it getting leaked from here. We should give thanks to the internet, the sell out companies, and others who spread our information for all these calls to happen in the first place. Even the DNC looks like a joke.
- Consumer replies to PhilIt's assumed that, before you post a phone number here, you do a little checking around to see if it belongs to someone or not. The deal with Fake Payday Loan Calls is that they call with numbers that can't be identified as belonging to anyone legitimate.
FYI: 800-562-6000 is the WA State House of Representatives, not an Indian extortionist. - Hanco| 1 replyProbably the best thing you can do is start blaspheming Muhammed and Islam and decribe how u are eating a raw bloody pork chop. If they get really irate you know the deal. And they know u know the deal too. P.s. offer them Jesus.
- Hanco replies to Hancoor-- you can play their game and give them a load of false information to severely waste their time. It is rather entertaining. Then we could post recordings to youtube.

- Byte me| 3 repliesIF YOU DON'T RECOGNIZE THE PHONE NUMBER DON'T ANSWER IT. You're only asking for trouble. If they are who they say then they'll leave a message with a valid number to call back on if they don't then you can consider it a bullsh*t call If you know who's calling pick it up just don't always assume you do
