FTC Cracks Down On Indian Call Center, Fraudster Debt Collectors (FINALLY!)

Does anyone know if Midland Credit Management uses these Indian call centers? I have four credit card debts bought by MCM. MCM has never called me, but I constantly get several calls a day that are only listed as "Incoming Call" on my caller ID. No name or number only "Incoming Call". They usually disconnect when the answering machine picks up, but several times they do stay on the line and someone with a heavy Indian accent will ask for me by name and you can hear other Indian accents talking in the background. I would love to turn MCM over to my states's Attorney General's office for harrassment tactics and "spoofing" their correct phone number so I can not document their constant calling.

It's certainly possible. Several high volume agencies with a US footprint have farmed out to South Asian call centers, and at least one I know sold out to an Indian firm years ago. When we discuss the fake payday loan collectors, it never hurts to be reminded that a number of domestic collectors, which really do have the power to get people sued, use the same tactics.

You may have a hard time making a case for spoofing with fraudulent intent since the Caller ID tags are not presenting a false business name. You'll need to show a "harassing or annoying" call pattern and/or abusive language to sharpen your spear. It would help to extract a business name from a rep as these mystery calls arrive. Federal law says you must be told on demand. If you do work up a solid pack of violations, don't wait for your AG to act while the remaining months pass for you to file a FDCPA suit.

They may have stopped one scam but, there are still more out there. I've been harassed by people all with Indian accents for almost 3 years now. When I read this story last week I thought "Thank God, these call will finally stop." They haven't, I've been getting several calls a day on my cell phone and they've called my work as much as 40 times in one day. My boss and his boss are getting pissed. I feel my job might just be in jeopardy because of this. I've contacted the FTC and the BBB about it to no avail. Today I've made the choice to actually talk to these people and make a few requests of them. I'm going to ask them to mail me paperwork showing exactly what debts I owe so that I can mail them paperwork disputing the debt. I know that they'll just say they can't and that they're going to send an "officer" to arrest me. I'll tell them that's fine if they want to do that. I told them that about a year ago and the calls stopped for about 6 months. Maybe it'll work this time and they'll get shut down in the meantime. It's a long shot but I've got to try something. Of course, I won't give them a shred of personal info or confirm what info they think they have. Last time he said he was sending an "officer" to my home he gave me an address I haven't lived at for over 5 years. I said "If that's where you think I'll be then come get me." I pray to God it works

, I happen to like my job and don't want to lose it.

Another catch is when you change phone numbers, and the local phone company gives you a number that was previously owned by a credit cheat. I got a number previously owned by a person who had a good dozen aliases for themselves; it took me three years to get it through to the collection agency that I had only had the number since a certain date. The calls stopped. Amen. At least this proved the collection agency was real enough to know when it had made a mistake.

In other words, don't take on debts you can't afford, pay off debts you have, don't use credit cards or on-line loan services, pay cash.

A few days ago I got an e-mail from that same Credit Services company where Rachel and her crew can be found. That is what was weird, that the message came as an e-mail, not a phone call! The text of the  message was almost word-for-word for the script we have all heard so many times from these wretched people! How they got my e-mail address is equally disturbing. Just how much hacking into Facebook and other such sites is really going on?

The scamming slaves should grow balls and reveal the names of their scamming masters. I think slaves should get a reward for revealing the ones that control them like puppets. Humanity should take a tougher stance and bring these scamming cowards to justice. They have crossed the limits of tolerance by intimidating random people.

    Annoyed
I have been getting phone calls from this number the past month or so. They used to call and leave no message. Now they leave a message claiming to be Thomas Johnson or Michael Brown. They sound middle eastern and African. The voicemails were threatening. Saying I better call back or I will be sorry.  They called my work and said I need to call back regarding my ss number. Today just called again and left message saying that there is a legal matter concerning my social security number and I need to call back immediately. I tried calling back yesterday and it always says that all circuits are busy.. In the message they say this number is their cell phone. Idiots! I have also received calls from 818-303-2925 and 415-358-1693

Same thing as above.  Threated to put me in prison.  I laughed.  These guys are a joke trying to scare you.  Don't feed into it.  When they tell you that their "Collection Agent" is coming to arrest you, tell them to go ahead.  Only a SWORN law enforcement official can make an arrest for something like this.  Go to the FCC and file a complaint.
