There is no need to "pls [sic] add" anything, and "Walt" from five years ago is not some list warden. There's a spanking clean number thread waiting for someone to submit comments. EVERY phone number has one of these here. The indexing takes care of itself when we use the site correctly. Neat idea, huh?

We also need to bury the myth that we have "fraud area codes" in North America. Sure, maybe spoofing certain regions, like the District of Columbia, becomes useful to a crook. But semi-blaming the area code is absurd and sends attention away from said crooks.

Too bad that when they "googled" something it doesn't automatically impart a little intelligence along with the information it brings up.

This should be fun! Resident47 against the troll.  Going to make popcorn now and watch the show.

If their comments bother you that much, why respond?
The same can be asked of you, if you are 'bothered' by someone who takes the time to give detailed information to individuals on a one-on-one basis. Perhaps you should READ each of those comments you THINK are attacks and you might actually learn something useful about how things work efficiently around here, instead of badgering someone who clearly UNDERSTANDS how to use the site.

This concludes my portion of food for a troll.

If your gripe is with BigA, then why did you address Resident47 with your rantings? I find his posts very informative and yes, if I believe someone is badgering useful posts, I will stick up for them!

This site is designed to be useful and helpful, not attacking one's intelligence.
But that is EXACTLY what you did! So beat it troll, as you just confirmed you are a troll and I am not feeding you any more food!

All I see are 3 whiny posts complaining about other posters. Nothing useful there. Google does not come up with any posts on that screen name at 800notes or anywhere. The "we protect this thread and other threads until death" band of merry men part sort of tells everyone who you really are.

Leave out the vulgar insult and we might consider you a responsible person instead of a troll.

While I believe in the lesson of the John Kerry "swift boat" ads, Always Answer Your Critics, the fair thing is to make this more of an open letter.

} "They might be new to the site" ... "People may just be new to the site."

That's no excuse for lazy and slipshod behavior. All comments bear an obvious date stamp. Most of us learned to read a calendar as children. Would we have standards lowered to a kindergarten comprehension here?

800Notes traffics in pretty serious threats to everyone's privacy and finances. I expect the users to at least pretend they can interact like responsible adults. My expectation meets disappointment daily. But if no one demands a smarter way to conduct business here, no one will oblige.

The inexperienced should get the room they need to fumble a while. But I also see perpetual beginners who refuse to learn best practices. I see signs of entitlement and selfishness and myopia, subtracting from the value of the site. It calls for constant correction. "What you permit you also encourage."

This is not a private chamber for Executive Sessions of your town council. This is a free-as-oxygen open forum, where yes, anything we write can be held to peer review and even critical scrutiny. That's how we get at the collective truth. That's how we filter out a great deal of hazardous misinformation. As much as possible I am going to handle or debate or rebut the content here, and not the character of an author. Obvious shills and trolls do not enjoy such restraint.

I've endured this argument a hundred times in creative work critique groups. If you cannot separate your own egg yolk ego from critical remarks on your output, you need to grow some skin or stay home and shut up. That said, I am on record as pressing for civil discourse; one's post history or green vote count will make no difference when I register my displeasure.

It has been my position that too much comment scatter runs counter to what Ms. Forte intended for her board websites. All of these laundry list forum threads need serious monitoring or to be locked off, because they invite casual users to model less efficient, and often stupid, ways to use the resource. Admin is not taking the remedy I have advocated. That leaves trying to set up road cones and diamond signs and hope that traffic flows where it should.

Probably I sound exasperated, because I am, when sensible comment flow is ignored. My rising to "verbal attack" is debatable. If I had a problem with Mrs. Moosie's protests and suggested that her estranged felt-covered husband damaged her brain from too many showers of ping pong balls, that would be an attack. I'd leave it there and run off to set some more bratty fires. I'd rather explain my case like a grownup. I'd rather not be roped into the latest variation of the "800Notes Members Are Bullies" movement.
