And pressing "1" and talking to them just verifies that they can easily reach a human at the other end, hence your number  may be sold on a sucker list to other scammers.  There are pros and cons to all ways of combating scammers - why criticize others who choose a method different from yours?  "don't discourage others from doing real work" - back at ya.

First of all. I picked a name out of a hat. Didn't see pookie ookie so excuuuse me.    Secondly, Pookie and pookie-ookie are two different names. Not trying to copy anyone. Just thought I'd give my two cents. So now I'll keep my two cents to myself and just use the forums to check the scam numbers that call me.  Since you all seem to be brainiacs who think you know everything and don't need anyone else's two cents. I'm a victim too just trying to help.

If you came to this board and "checked" as you claim then you obviously have seen the registered member's name of PookieOokie commenting just a few comments prior to the one which you made. So you can see where your picking the "name out of a hat" is a tad too much for coincidence.

If it were Dave, Jim, Mike, Steve, etc., then it would be a no.
Using Pookie when PookieOokie posted a few short comments above theirs certainly is ironic.

After changing numbers on my phones helped but did not eliminate this crap, I've tried something else. (I changed them because aside from out right scammers, I was getting spoofed calls showing me calling myself! Very unnerving at 1st)) I monthly pick one of these scammer numbers and forward all suspect numbers to it. My cable service offers "selective forwarding" which works great on my land line. Just use call blocking on my cell. Keeping fingers crossed this will keep the scum at bay.

My phone service offers selective forwarding on my land line. I send all scammer numbers to another scammer number. Been working pretty well. I use the call barring and call blocking features on my cell. This too, is working fairly well. Both tactics have kept the scum to occasional status.

Maybe we should ask it how Mr Ed is doing?  It sure sounds like Wilbur.

I signed up online with youmail.com.  For free. It lets me know who is calling and has a feature that tells folks if there number is blocked then call back because it won't allow them through. I block all calls or "ditch" the Purposefully Unidentified or Spoofed numbers for free if they are a known spammer, fraudster, telemarketer. I get an notice everytime someone calls me. I now just turn off the ringers. I can see a call is coming by the landline lighting up but I wait to see on my phone app or email what the number is.

If they call and hang up I get an email on my phone or if I wanted a text alert but I don't care that much to be getting texts all the time. When I have a chance I plug the number into the internet and if it comes up with any known spammer association I ditch them.

In the beginning it was more work but now that I have captured over 300 in 4 years, my phone rings way less. It's now in a cycle. It will be one day and I get several calls by the scammers (different numbers) which tells me it's just one boiler room.

Unfortunately I neither my cell or my landline service companies, (idiots in my book - Verizon and ATT) refuse to sign up for nomorobocall which would simplify everyone's life but the criminals. They must get kickbacks.

I guess it depends which service controls your landline and cell.  No mo ro bo works well with my Verizon digital voice land line.

LOL! Yup, and newer models block unknown and private name and numbers also, so yes, they do work!

I'm not about to waste my time picking up the phone and verifying they have a live number.  Just not going to happen. Let them waste their time and money trying to call through and can't..
