Your attitude tells me that you're another My Way or the Highway preacher who believes in one-stroke solutions to complex problems. My records tell me that I'm almost sure we had this same argument in first quarter 2014 when your handle was "cd".
Much like Not Mike, I can count the illegal sales calls on two hands annually. My phone number, a hand-me-down from someone who was eventually sued for junk debt, was DNC-registered in July 2004, shortly after the line was installed. Cold sales callers don't bother me because I go out of my way not to expose my number to lead generation. Stretch your theory about the clammy palms of "the gov" to explain that, Poindexter.
Someone might make a plausible case that recent registrations signal fresh meat to fraudulent callers. But all they get for intel is that the number works, not that anyone will answer or a person behind it suits the profile of their ideal customer or victim. That's what marketing lead lists are for, relied upon by hawkers and charlatans long before any opt-out program from your "gov" existed.

Regarding the original post, I looked through our caller ID and many of the numbers we'd been getting calls from are in those number blocks, all with a city/state listed in the caller ID. The latest one was from "MINTO ND 701-248-1459" which I suspect is supposed to be MINOT.

Out of curiosity, do you also see unmarked black helicopters flying around your house at night? I have read through your rants on this thread and it appears you have been wrapping the tin foil around your head WAY TOO TIGHT! Not only will it leave nasty marks the skin where it wrinkles, but it applies undo pressure to the brain which screws up thought processes.
“Did anyone ever notice that after you added your number to the do not call registry your scam calls went wayyy up in about a month or two?” Nope, I noticed the exact opposite after I first signed up.
“So, what does that tell you!” After reading all of your posts, it tells me that; at best, you are a paranoid loon, at worst you are in league with the very scam callers you are supposedly railing against. In either case, you are off-topic for this thread. Besides, why would a scammer want to add to their costs by buying phone lists from the Government, when they are most likely going to use robo-dialers (which can easily dial through all possible numbers) to place their calls anyway? The only logical use for the numbers on the DNC lists would be to program the robo-dialers NOT to dial them. If you had really thought about it, you would realize that phone numbers on the DNC lists are actually the worst targets for a phone based campaign (legitimate or otherwise.) They are basically lists of phones belonging to people that do not want to be bothered by unwanted callers (enough so that they have expended the effort to register), who will be very un-receptive to the calls (because they not want to be bothered), and who will be the most likely to report the calls. Assuming that what you say about your experiences with scam callers is true (and I have my doubts) it is more than likely a mere coincidence rather than evidence of a plot by scammers and/or the greediness of the Government. As I stated before, your tin foil hat is too tight.

OK, so what does this have to do with this thread? Simple. If OUR government refuses to protect us and opts instead to deregulate in favor of business then we, as citizens, have the right to take matters into our own hands. I suggest a four step, escalating approach.
1. Publicly out every officer/owner and every employee who works for CallerId4U with a call to action to harass and shame the living hell out of them by any legal means necessary. 2. Extend this treatment to their family, including their children as well. 3. Physical violence against the facilities. Cut trunk lines and electrical power to call and data centers. Anything at all to disrupt service. 4. As a last resort, disappear an officer.
Now, I do understand that the last two escalations call for actions deemed to be illegal. However, as Thomas Jefferson said, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." I would hope it doesn't come to that, but I am willing to give my blood if need be. However, all this thread proves is that there is no remedy coming from our government, and that phone companies are not going to turn away business just because they are invading our privacy. Now, who's with me? Because we will need a sizable coalition in order to pull this off.
