For all the "I get more calls than ever after signing up for Do Not Call" people I made this graphic to show what I think is going on.

You mean the DNC is not a magic call blocking device?

"I noticed about 2 weeks later that we each started getting about 10 calls a day"

So why am I not getting ten calls a day?

My numbers are on the DNC list. Only one of my numbers gets more than ten calls a month, which is a few less than before I signed up for DNC.

The guys who stopped calling were the legit businesses.

The ones who keep calling are the dirtballs who ignore the DNC and the politicians and charity tele-solicitors.

Take the headsets away!   They have to cradle the phone - sheer torture and against the Geneva Convention.  We have to outlaw those phone dialing tools that receptionists had.  In the All the President's Men, there is a part where the tension has been building and building, and either Redford or Hoffman has to make some urgent call, and they dive for the phone, and it takes FOREVER to dial!  When the movie came out, it was tense, but now I sit there about to scream!

I read through this post 2 weeks ago. At that time my phone was registered with the Do Not Call registry and I was receiving 6 to 10 scam calls a day. I had my number deleted from the Do Not Call registry and I am now getting 0 to 1 calls a day. Coincidence? I don't think so. But we all have our opinions.

Probably the best description I've seen of this ever on this site.

    Um ...
You do realize, dontcha, that it takes 30 days for your number to be "removed"?
Yes, that is true.  The DNC list is revised every 30 days, and then reissued.

Again, applicants to receive the DNC list must register, and be screened.  Then, they pay about $16,000 to subscribe for a year.  The bad guys can used inexpensive "war dialers".  Much more cost effective than a subscription to the DNC list!

    >> Coincidence?  <<

    Definitely.

LOL! Yes, Slim nails it! The "post hoc ergo propter hoc" (After the fact, therefore because of the fact) fallacy is a very powerful thing. But it's still a fallacy.

    Yes, it is a coincidence.
A few weeks ago I got 4 spam calls in one day.  I got one more a couple days later, and haven't gotten once since.  I got snow the day after those 4 calls and even more snow earlier this week.  Does that mean snow storms stop calls?  Of course not.

These people are CRIMINALS. They pay no attention to the DO NOT CALL list.

Two whole weeks now and my newly registered phone is quiet as a church mouse.  Can't wait to see what happens when the 31 day grace period is up.

That's true, they are violating US law.  Many, if not most, of them are located outside the US, out of reach of US law enforcement.  They cannot be caught.

The foreign governments have little if any incentive to go after the perpetrators.  Quite often local officials receive some of the proceeds for protecting these vermin.

Also, look at it this way: If your local police got a call or email telling them that someone in your town was violating the telemarketing laws of India how much priority do you think they would give the matter?

Well as long as this thread has bubbled to the top, my 31 days since i signed up for the DNC was yesterday, and so far my phone is still quiet as a church mouse.  So I guess next month I will post my results here and we shall see if my calls do increase since signing up.
