Any software alternative to PhoneTray?

I can discuss the v1.37 I have running, which should not differ in file management from v1.39. PT saves three CSV files to a single directory, which the user can locate anyplace desired. The files are quite functionally named "CallLog", "Names", and "Privacy", all with CSV extensions. I suppose you could try dumping copies of these wherever v2 expects to find the user data, assuming there have been no changes in how the data is formatted. I haven't seen version 2 ... your damage may vary.

Example of phonetray settings transfer from XP to Windows 7

Shutdown PhoneTray (right-click PhoneTray icon and select Shutdown PhoneTray from the quick launch menu).

After that copy all files (CallLog.csv, Privacy.csv and Names.csv) from /My Computer/Shared Documents/PhoneTray folder on your computer to a flash drive or backup or whatever media you wish.

Place the three files into /Users/Public/Documents/PhoneTray folder on your Windows 7 (XP or 8) computer.

Overwrite existing files. Start PhoneTray on the new computer. You should now see Call Log and all Privacy Manager numbers.

If the files are not in this location for your particular setup, find: CallLog.csv, Privacy.csv and Names.csv
and make a note of the location for transfer.

This worked for me when I wanted to move phonetray from an old windows xp to a newer windows 7 machine about a year ago and did not want to start programming it all over again.

Herman, a new question about incorporating the beta version of the new call blocking app. I know I should post this somewhere else but don't know where. I lost the download. and the ftp site is no longer in service. HELP! perhaps an email or redirect somewhere?

No problems. I can scare up the source on that but don't have that currently available. I've been thinking that a location for this off-topic stuff would be good in lots of ways and made a quick page a while back but haven't checked it until today. Let me see if it works and I will give you a public address for you or anyone else who wants it.   -  Modifying it now  -

Go to http://800auxiliary.betaboard.net/  I set it up a few months ago then left it. Just spruced it up a bit and reset the forum. Its public and anonymous but you can post anything you like. Anyone is welcome.

I am using Phone Tray Free 1.39 on a windows 98 era computer that had just enough resources to install windows xp . The modem is connected to the phone line but I did not bother to install a network card so I'm not worried about installing updates. This old computer sits by my desk and is connected to my new computer using a KVM switch. This lets me run the old computer with Phone Tray 24/7 and the new computer as needed. So far it has running for 365 days with no problems.

With PhoneTray Free 1.39, does anyone know if a number that has been flagged to be Zapped will be logged on future calls so you can verify that the Zapping is working?...  That is, numbers to be Zapped after one ring -- will they be logged as they are Zapped?

If not, what other ways are available to confirm that the Zapping works (other than the absence of repeat calls from that number)?

Thanks in advance for any replies...

Yes, it remembers the number for as long as you wish. Try a test. Call the number with phonetray tied to it from a cellphone or another line. As phonetray picks up, it will log that number into its database the same way as any other incoming number.

After you hang up, open the phonetray window where the numbers are logged and right-click on the test number you just called from. Click the Add to Privacy Manager and block number(s) button. This now blocked the number you just called from.

Repeat the call to phonetray from the same cell number or other line and it will follow your instructions to hang-up or zap as you setup when you installed phonetray.

After the test, don't forget to remove your test number from the restricted log - Open the phonetray screen, click on the yellow padlock icon, find the test number, highlight it and click the delete number box just below the numbers list.

Thanks, @Herman, I performed the tests you suggested, which confirms that future calls from a blocked number are logged, and have a Comments entry of "Zapped!"

PhoneTray works so well, I am tempted to cancel Verizon's "Anonymous Caller Reject" service; however, at least one issue dissuades me:  I do receive some calls that are Logged in PhoneTray as "N/A", even though Caller ID shows a valid number.  I believe if I relied solely on PhoneTray to screen these calls (with a recording to unblock their number), I would be blocking valid calls that are not hiding their numbers...

Has anyone else encountered this?   ...and if so, is there a work-around?

Finally, has anyone figured out a way to silence the first ring?

Happy New Year & Thanks in advance!

I've been using PTF v1.39 for quite a while now and occasionally I do get calls logged as "N/A".
The usual fix I do is to open the PTF window and click on the "Settings" button.  At the bottom of the dialog is a button labeled "Fix CID".  Click on the button and a "Modem Diagnostics" window appears.  Click "OK" and it will detect your modem and resend the code sequence to reset it.  After it does that it shows "OK" in the dialog area and the "OK" button changes to "Done!".  Click on the button again and a message will pop up telling you that you need to reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.  I usually click "Cancel" telling it that I will reboot later, since I have found that the modem tends to work fine from that point anyway.

I have not found any way to get it to suppress the first ring.

    Hope this helps.

BTW, I had successfully registered at 800Auxillary, and I have a record of my ID and password; however, I am unable to login.
The response states: "You have specified an incorrect or inactive username, or an invalid password."

I was checking that forum weekly until a few weeks ago....  I tried a password reset, and the response was:
"The e-mail address you supplied does not match the one listed for that username."

    Any suggestions for resolving this?
