The terms "BMV" and "Bureau of Motor Vehicles" have been aired in this thread several times. Some states like "Department", others "Division". I'm waiting for the first one to rename it the "Cattle Hall of Excessive Wait Times". (CHEWT?)

Of course the other recurring feature of this thread is the breathless scrawling of underbaked testimonials to one rogue subrogation collector which is portrayed as a bigger threat than that hurricane about to smash into Florida this weekend.

No, I can believe that's true. Wilber and Associates PL is trying to have my fiance's license suspended for not signing their contract even though he has been paying them. This is the #1 threat they use against people who were in an accident found to be at fault and uninsured.

Most if not all state laws require you to at least carry minimum coverage.  Driving without insurance is extremely irresponsible.  Most if not all state laws specify what happens when you don't maintain coverage on your vehicle.

A maintained and registered vehicle and a licensed driver that's properly insured is the *minimum* required to drive.  If one cannot meet these minimum criteria, they absolutely should not be on the road.  Period.  Anyone driving without insurance gets exactly zero sympathy from me.  Your fiance got what he deserved.

Wilber & associates has been sending me letter threatening me with anything they can! The accident was a fender bender. The truck that was involved in the accident with me merged into my lane and I hit the passenger side of their car with my driver side in stop and go traffic at about 35 mph, the truck had a cracked bumper but that was all the damage. I did not have insurance at the time of the accident. The police did not come to the scene of the accident and no report was made. This was on October 16, 2018 I was never contacted by the other persons insurance company which was USAA on any owed amount then in maybe like March I received a letter from Wilber stating I owed over $2,000 for a cracked bumper!! I continually tried getting more information that they had and was denied. I was willing to set up a payment plan Until they told me I had to pay 1,100 dollars upfront and 300 a month for 6 months which was ridiculous!! I told them I couldn’t do that and asked to speak with someone about another payment plan and was told I would be contacted by a finical advisor and this was in late July I wasn’t contacted until August 6th and was left a voicemail which left a different number to call back to which wasn’t even and Illinois number and then never heard from them again until yesterday when they called and told me I would receive a letter from D.O.T within the week for a license suspension and when i asked about the payment plan I was trying to set up the guy told he didn’t call for that and urged me off the phone. I called back and spoke with a lady who was super unprofessional and rude to me on the phone. I asked to speak with someone above her and she proceeded to tell me “this isn’t customer service you can’t press 1 for a supervisor” and then kept asking how much I could pay right now and I told her nothing until the 1st when I get paid and she was demanding exact number and I told her I didn’t know and asked for an invoice so I could see what all the damages were I was paying for and what fees. She kept refusing to send it to me before telling me I was unprofessional and  uncooperative and then hung up on me! I can’t have my license suspended because my job relies heavily on it! What should I do?

Well you should have thought of that before you drove without insurance.  No sympathy here and I don't see that you have any other choice but to pay them.  I bet that premium for insurance is looking a lot better now isn't it?

I was willing to pay what I needed to pay to the insurance company but I was even contacted by them. As far as me not having coverage on my vehicle I didn’t ask to be scrutinized over not having it. I know I should have but some people can’t always afford high insurance rates. I had other priorities at the time. Didn’t ask for your sympathy.

You were contacted in August but didn't call them back? But you wanted to make payment arrangements so why wouldn't you have called them back?

    1.  You knew you were breaking the law.
    2.  You owe the money so you will have to pay it or you can accept that they will turn your name into the DMV.  They don't have to accept payments.  This is a subrogation claim and they don't have to follow the FDCPA either.
    3.  You can always go out and hire a lawyer.
    4.  See #1.  Have a nice day!

1.) I never denied I was breaking a law. I know that I am fully responsible.
2.) I never had an issue paying for damages caused by the accident and I understand they do not have to make a payment plan with me but they were the ones who initially offered it, they should not offer that if it’s not something they are willing to work with. I’ve been cooperative with them up to this point.
3.) if I don’t have 1,100 dollars upfront what makes them think I can pull 2,200 out of no where? They will have to do what they have to do and if that’s submitting my name then that is fine, I understand I’m liable for the accident since I did not have insurance at the time. Again I wasn’t asking for sympathy or for anyone to tell me I don’t have to pay it. I wanted to know how to go about getting more information on the damages and what exactly I’m paying for which I should be able to access. They refused to send me anything besides letter threatening my license status.

I receive a call from 866 978 5012 claiming they will serve my federal papers unless they receive call within 24 hours.  I tell them go ahead serve papers.  it never happened.  they now call old work phone numbers and people I am not related to but in the same town to harass me to call them.  they want my SSN and money .  I refused again.  Per the Attorney General office this is a scam

If you wanted to know how to get more information on the damages, why did you come to a phone number look-up site?!
