Caller ID showed my name and number which I thought was weird. I called AT&T and they said there was nothing they could do. I called the attorney general's office and though sympathetic there was nothing they could do. t seems to me if we complain enough to or elected officials someone could draft a bill to eliminate these robocalls and give us some relief. When a scam caller calls my phone they are imposing on my time, but when they use my number to call that is hitting below the belt. I have reported to DNC list and FTC. Hope it helps.
You spent your time calling AT&T, waiting on hold for some time, I presume. You spent your time calling and waiting to speak with the Attorney General's office to speak your mind. You took your time to file complaints with two agencies. You suggest that we all devote more of our private time complaining to multiple representatives of the government about our telephones ringing.
You say that the caller is imposing on your time, yet it seems that you are the one who is wasting your own time because you are letting one of your home appliances bother you.
Meantime, I have blocked the caller or turned-off the ringer and have allowed about 7 seconds of my time to be wasted...
Please don't let the appliances in your home worry you so.

I have a call blocker on my land line. I put my own number in it because I can't think of any scenario in which I would be dialing my own number from my own number. I haven't received on of these calls where my own number is spoofed but this should work as a preemptive strike. If I do get one it should be blocked. I'll check back and let you know if it worked.

They started today here, the funny thing is that even my own name that is misspelled by the way shows up.
Impossible to call yourself using the same line so now i'm figuring out how to block my own phone number.

I just had Rachel at Cardholder Services spoof my own number. I got sweared at by the scammer.
I just had this happen to me. Not sure what I can do... I answered (out of curiosity also) then hung up, so I didn't get their company name or call back number. I just heard the recoring say I needed to lower my debt. My number has been on DNC list since its inception, why does this continue? I can't block my own number and can't report myself. This is clever spoofing... Why is this legal for companies to continue to do??! What is the point of the Do Not Call List if no telemarketers have to obey it?
Phone rang this am, and it was my husbands name and our phone number. I had been up early to work in the garden and had just dozed off for a quick nap. What a shock................Glad to know from this site what is going on. If it happens again, I will block it with Comcast as I do other "pests".
Replying to myself. It worked! Saw my blocker flashing and sure enough it was my own land line number calling my land line number. It didn't ring through.

Same thing happened to us - had our name and phone on Caller ID. Shortly after that, received a call from name of state where I live and then another call in the next couple days from the India guys pretending to be IRS Agents. We recently had some fraud activity on one of our cards. There are several recordings of these guys on YouTube. We have received many calls from "card services" refinance outfit in the past but there is no outstanding credit card debt by owner of phone.
I called and made a police report about the call using our info on the caller ID. Had a long discussion with the officer. At the end he asked for my DOB, I gave it to him but thought about saying, "so you can put it into another big computer database where my info can be stolen?". Local officer said they get complaints all the time. He said with VOIP service, the calls are very hard for them to trace. I also made FTC complaint and called AT&T. Got standard form letter from AT&T. When I called AT&T, they tried to sell me internet service.
These people are using the phone network to commit fraud and identity theft / impersonation. They are using a service I pay for to bug our family. They also are impersonating state and federal govt. Seems like that would be enough for law enforcement or AT&T to go into action. They need to eliminate the loophole that allows them to fake caller ID info. I cannot see any legit reason to lie to someone about where you are calling from or who you are. Caller ID info is also used as part of verification info when you call one of our credit card companies.

This is getting so bad. This is identity theft and it is happening more and more. I had someone phone my cell# and ask why I called them. I didn't know what he was talking about. I thought maybe an app on my cell dialed them - but now i realize, this is what's happening. They are really just harvesting numbers and identities! How they can get away with this is unbelievable. Why do we even have laws!!!!! The last few weeks every day i receive a call on my cell with the first 3 digits matching my own number. I can only imagine how many times a call has been placed with my own info on it, to people that have no idea. We are all the victims here because law enforcement does nothing! I swear, technology has become our biggest downfall. We are all screwed!!!!!
