I have been consistently blocking calls from numbers that have my prefix as I know no one that has the same prefix as mine... I got 2 calls this afternoon from two random numbers but the same prefix, blocked them, and within a half hour got a call from a lady saying that I needed to take her number off my call list. I don't know if they are randomly spoofing my number or it is revenge for blocking every number they use to call me. And knowing something is illegal and being able to do something about it is a whole nother thing. Not sure what I can do about it except hope everyone does what I do and ignore the calls they don't recognize or block them.
Really? You ihonestly think scammers see you've blocked their numbers and decide to spoof yours when they make their next round of calls? Not sure if that makes you arrogant or delusuonal.
They probably just randomly picked yours, much like they randomly picked others in your AC/Exchange when they called you. And the lady calling you indicates an example of why you should never return an unsolicited call - you're vastly more likely to disturb an innocent person than talk to the person doing the calling.
If you want to track these people down, you have to do it on the call they make to you. Play along. Act interested. Slowly prod them for information, even run right up to "closing the deal", and change you mind when you have enough information to either sue or report to the FTC. Reporting these spoofed numbers to the FTC is likely pointless, but if they tell you who they are (anything can help - name, web site, etc) it helps any investigation. Also, one tactic I use is during the dialogue, I will hang up on them while I'm speaking to them. They think it's a dropped call, and many times they will call back with a more actionable number rather than the spoofed number.

Got a call from my own # from “Microsoft” saying my license had expired and my IP address was being used in other countries. Told him I’d call Microsoft and call him back. He then gave me my IP address to prove he was from Microsoft. Told him again I’d call him back. He finally gave me 941-251-1102 which I reported to Microsoft
I have had similar conversations with Verizon about "spoofing" and been fed the same line of garbage. there are identifiers that let cell towers know what and where phone calls are routed to and from. they have a list of numbers i call and text and what time i made those calls and texts and for how long so that my bill reflects those items for their services. YOU CAN NOT TELL ME THEY DONT KNOW WHO IS DOING THE SPOOFING!!! if calls made dont come from my imei and mid and have my 10 digits for caller ID then I should be able to have free phone service just by changing my number? come on! they make money either way.
This SCAM has been going around for a while now. The scammers spoof your name and number because they know people are easily fooled and will pick up the phone out of curiosity on why someone with your name and number is calling them. Then too, there are all those angry people who start calling you to tell you to stop calling them because your name and number are showing up on THEIR caller ID

I receive so many scam calls from my own prefix that I have blocked the entire prefix. So, when I received a scam call yesterday supposedly from my own number, it was blocked. These bottom-feeders didn't give up easily, though--they proceeded to call 11 times in three hours before they finally quit. My wife just bought a new phone that can block 1,000 numbers so I assume the memory will fill up pretty quickly.
