    The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers that an old -- and devastating -- scam is back in a big way. It's called an "advance-fee loan scam." The "advance-fee loan" ads appear in newspapers, on telephone poles, and the Internet. Telemarketers also hawk advance-fee loans.

    The Federal Trade Commission announced on Wednesday a law enforcement crackdown on companies and individuals accused of violating the requirements of the National Do Not Call (DNC) Registry, resulting in six settlements collectively imposing nearly $7.7 million in civil penalties, along with an additional complaint that will be filed in federal district court.
  • Privacy groups seek 'Do Not Track List'

    A number of privacy groups Wednesday called for creation of a "Do Not Track List" that would be similar to the popular Do Not Call telephone lists and would prohibit advertisers from tracking consumers' online activities.
