“At the FTC, Rachel from Cardholder Services is public enemy number one,” said FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz. “We’re cracking down on illegal robocalls by bringing law enforcement actions and pursuing technical solutions to the problem.”

Phone companies provide service to scammers. Why doesn't someone start a class action lawsuit against phone companies that enable scams?

You haven't stopped them at all. They still call, every day. This really seems like something that could easily be dealt with. Do it already.

The Federal Trade Comission (FTC) is where you can lodge your complaints about the DO NOT CALL list. They are the supposed enforcers of it. It seems that the only time they choose to do anything is when it directly effects them or becomes a political hot potato.

That's correct. It was signed into law by the president in December of 2010. It's called S30 and it provides a $10,000 fine for any caller who spoofs their caller id for the purpose of defrauding the person to whom they have placed the call. Furthermore, it provides an additional fine of $30,000 for each subsequent call after the first one, up to $1,000,000.

I bet all five company's started up the next day under a new name . There is to much money to be made on all these stupid people that fall for this crap. If they get fined 10,000 dollars they make that up in ten minutes. The only way to stop them is jail time and fines that put them out of business for good. Call some one on the do not call list it should be 20,000 for each call

Well the FTC failed.  I got a call, last week, from Rachel at Cardholder Services and today I received 2 robo calls from GE offering me a FREE security system.  Who are they kidding?

Apparently the FTC did such a great job of fixing the problem, they were back in business as of yesterday!

I doubt this will stop the calls. I'm in Canada so any FTC ruling is meaningless. The only way for rulings to have any teeth is for punishments to be extreme - Madoff-like jail sentences for all employees and fines that equal 100% of assets, rather than pinpricks. It won't happen, of course, but the only way for scammers to be stopped is for the companies to be financially destroyed, not just inconvenienced.

Had a call around Halloween from cardholder services - a woman stated she was calling about my credit card and that she could help me lower my current rate - impossible since I don't have a credit card. I demanded to know how she obtained my phone number and she hung up - scammers.

I also receive the calls from cardholder services, even though I never carry a balance and don't give a damn what the interest rates are.  Unfortunately, I forgot about cardholder services when I registered complaints against the security company scam today with the Governor's Office of Consumer Protection and the FTC.  This will never end!  I'm about ready to sit in a corner and drool and scream!
