Don't understand this. Response was "sorry wrong number." What kind of scam is it?

One place online said it could be someone who used a digital disguise because they are watching your house to see if anyone is home to rob it.  Interestingly, 2 adult family members had JUST left and I was suppose to be gone too (except due to sickness I stayed home).  As soon as the other 2 adults left, the phone rang with this digital message, "Sorry Wrong Number" then hung up.  So, I'm sitting here with my pistol loaded.  No one better break in my house!

Rang wireline. Left no message. Placed on call blocker.

Why are the phone companies not blocking and cancelling phone service to these rat spammers, probably close to 100% of them are scam operations.

Calls like this number, and (000) 000-0000 are scammers.  In the case of the latter, a credit card scam.  "Your card has been reported stolen, and has been deactivated.  To reactivate your card, type in your 16 number identification."  Most people would avoid this.  People who perhaps don't think quickly, or are too trusting?

6/23/13 at 9:15 got the same wrong number recording. Does anyone know what the purpose of this is?

Caller ID had 000-000-1111.  I answered the call and the caller hung up.

Often occurs after booking an airline ticket. The computer records your voice ("Hello" "Bueno" "Shalom" "Alo" etc.) for matching purposes to the worldwide threat voice database - all very new technology.

Received call and after slight hesitation female caller said "wrong number".
Would like to know where these emanate.

I believe call comes from CLEAR ISP.
Don't ask me how i know, but it might clear things up for others

Got a recording "Sorry wrong number".  *69 back and number not in service.  Bleeping bullbleepers.

Just called me. Did not answer. Went to voicemail, no voice message.

Luckily, I got ios 7 on my iphone which allows for blocking unlimited number blockage. Zap, got blocked.

Got a call, answered hello and it said sorry wrong number in female pre recorded voice. Now I'm mad and feel like someone just gave me more problems
