000-000-1111

Got a call this evening from 000-000-1111... it was a middle aged woman's voice that said  "wrong number sorry" then disconnected. We get wrong numbers all the time, but not from a 000 number.  Strange indeed.  Like LOL's reply with it is coming from Skype Messenger...

Same happened to me.

Just called me and said "sorry, wrong number".

Number came up and I didn't answer it. I am pissed that you have a non-pub number, that is on the "do not call list" and you still get BS calls.

Called at 6:45 am cst---did not answer.  I don't know who it is.

called and electronic voice said "wrong number" as soon as I picked up ...

I got the same thing today - no voice - I hung up.  Checked with my carrier and they didn't have any record of complaints or even inquiries on the number.

I got the exact same call.
We really need someone to get to the bottom of this.
Here's my best three guesses so far.

1. A government agency collecting voice recognition samples.
As in, they're collecting your voice signature and filing it along with your phone number and possibly the information on file with your service provider.
Their intention is simply to build or expand a database of vocal signatures.

2. Same as #1 but, rather than building a database, they're comparing your voice signature to that of someone they're looking for ... trying to find a match.

3. An agency dialing numbers in an effort to build a list of active telephone numbers to sell to telemarketers.


I'm actually leaning towards government agency.
The CIA is about as corrupt as an organization can possibly get.
They're always doing dirty things that the American people would never approve of.
There's a good chance this is one of those things.

My Caller ID pinged it as "Name Not Found" 000-000-1111 on 10/16/10 at 6:20 PM eastern in Tennessee.
The Skype explanation posted by "Lol" doesn't sound too insidious but I'm glad I didn't pickup anyway, as I would find the computer voice "sorry wrong number" hang up as disturbing as others here have.

Damn, looks like the domain has expired and the information is no longer there.  I guess I should have copied it down.

Same thing here...after I picked up, there were a few seconds on nothing, then a recorded voice said "Sorry, wrong number" and disconnected.

Same as above, called me at 7:39 am.

I just got a call from 000 000 1111  I called Verizon right away and they did not know the origin of such number.  Anyway I got it blocked!  

My guess is that it is a computer generated search for phones that actually are answered by a person and others that are answered by a computer.

If it is answered by a computer, data can be sent to such number and take over and make that machine a bot computer.

Caller ID read "Unknown Name" 000-000-1111
I answered (because I like to give these callers a hard time), brief silence, then "sorry, wrong number".
followed by hang up.
Too weird.

call from  000-1111     at about 809pm 10-23   no message

oops forgot to mention i am on cst in texas around houston. looks like they are dialing all over the u.s.
ps. this is a pretty cool site

just prior to this i was surfing the net looking at 911 videos and stuff wonder if i clicked on the wrong site or something and they got my phone #

Get Caller ID... Don't even answer these type of calls.. They now know that the phone number is a good number and what time they were able to reach you.

I just received this phone call.  "Sorry, wrong number".  I received this a few days ago, at a different time. I will be checking all of my bills!  Can this number be "blocked"?
