- ElaineA man said he was from the U.S. government. He had an accent that was hard to understand. I heard background noise. Rather than ask him to keep repeating himself, I just stopped talking and waited until he disconnected. I figured it was some sort of call I didn't want. This same number tried calling several times earlier, but this was the first time I talked just a bit to somebody. I don't want to keep getting calls from them. I will warn my family that it is most likely a scam and not to answer the phone.
- ErinThey've called me 3xs today.
- 202-000-1111Receive call around 9:30am, I answer n I couldn't understand the guy plus noise on the background told him "cant hear you 2 much noise" guy say "I'm at the office" I said " in the office? - RobT replies to MaryMary| 10 repliesIts a scam...they call trying to say the government is giving a grant..when asked, they say "its not a school grant" just a grant of $7000 to do what ever i want with it. My son is a senior in high school and applied for many scholarships so i had to listen for the first few minutes. No offense and not to sound prejudiced but as soon as i heard that awful accent and could barely understand them, i knew it was a scam. When they call i simply start asking them questions and they rudely hang up on me. Now when they call, they say Washington DC so i say immediately what state are you calling from? They either say Washington DC again and i say thats not even a state and they hang up or they hang up when i ask what state. I would like to shoot these scum suckers and i wish the US government would do something about these international scams calling the US. With all our technology we cant figure out where the call is coming from? With an exchange of 000 (which is invalid) the phone companies cant simply block that?

- LindrozI received this call several times. The last time I spoke with someone, she told me that I was eligible for an $8,400.00 Government grant and that she was from Washington. She could barely speak English and I had trouble understanding her I knew it was a scam before I even picked up the phone, just from looking at the number. Who has a number of
202-000-1111 ?!?! I told her that I knew it was a scam and I was going to report her. She started screaming back something I could not understand. I told her to speak English and she became very upset. I ended up hanging up on her. I have received a number of these calls, all from different telephone numbers. How do you stop them?? With today's technology, you would think there was a way to block these people. I can block a number, but then they call on a different line. When you call back, there is a message saying that this number is out of service!!! Very frustrating to say the least!!- Caller: Washington DC

- DaFoxIt is a scam.
The government does not offer grants to individuals for personal use.
It is a scam ran by off shore con artists to trick you into sending unrecoverable money to them.
They will say you need to get prepaid money cards, like Green Dot and load them with you own money or to wire transfer funds via companies like Western Union. Once you give the details from the card to the scammer, they clean out the card. Once you wire transfer money, you can not recover it.
You loose your money, you get nothing.
The only legitimate avenue for government grants is through www.grants.gov which is the official US government web site for grants.
From their FAQ concerning fraud:
http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/support/general-support/grant-fraud.html
Please note the following:
No government grant-making agency will make phone calls; send email or letters to solicit money or personal banking information from a potential grant recipient.
There are no processing fees for federal grants.
Federal grants are not issued for personal use, but are intended for institutions and non-profits to carry out projects with a public purpose.
Know who you're dealing with on the web. Scam artists will often post a website with a name similar to a legitimate site.
If you have provided personal banking information to anyone claiming to be associated with a Federal grant agency, call your bank immediately to prevent unauthorized access to your account.
If you receive a call, mail, email, FAX, or any other form of communication soliciting you for a grant, STOP.
It is a scam.

The third time I didn't pick up and just let it ring. I think it's a fake IRS calling they called me one other time about thee months ago. I am suggesting don't pick it up if you see this number they might be calling from a pay phone. .
- merrillshure they make more money saling your name and number on a list than they do scamming people, gov only asks last four of social and personal ID info if they call, they usually send out snail male before that, or you initiated the call, speak spanish so they'll transfer you to texas, and they cant speak American indian, if all you know is pig laten try that

- MaryGot two calls, did not answer, caller ID said it was a possible spam.
- KatieThis number has called my cell phone repeatedly, but, thus far, have not left a voicemail. I don't answer calls from areas where I don't know anyone -- in this case, Washington DC. If people who aren't on my contact list want to talk to me, they can leave a voicemail and I'll call them back.
- YasirI get call from them I block them
- edith jones replies to soaringeagleI got a call said that I was aproved for on the 19th of april I new it was a scam
10.000 if they call again I will turn them to feds I hope they like that scam - MidNYteStormThe prefix of 000 alone should be a red flag to people not to answer this call or to call any possible number they might leave.

This number calls multiple times a day and never leaves a message. Shows its from "DC" on my caller ID. After reading numerous comments reported on this number, I'm glad I don't answer. Wish there was some way to block this number because this is harassment.
