I got a call from a man named David who asked me to call someone named elvinah.  When I called her she told me to go to a western union store and call someone named Gary Watson.  The phone numbers I was given both showed up in the Washington, D.C. area but when I googled the place and the name this site came up with the exact number I was given.  I was told I would need to send a $190 deposit to prove who I was since I wanted cash.  It was explained that I would get the money back when I recieved my $5000 grant.

THIS IS A SCAM. This is a version of the advance-fee-for-something scam where something is a grant, loan, lottery winnings, interest rate reduction, gift card, refund, doggie, cruise, vacation, free gas, etc., and the advance-fee is for tax, shipping, registration, insurance, secure handling, processing, etc. They may send you a fake check, may want your credit/debit card or bank account number,  or tell you to wire cash via Western Union, Moneygram, etc. They can put recurrent difficult-to-cancel monthly charges or a 1-time charge on your card or bank account, and sell account info to other criminals and you'll have to replace accounts altogether. Wired-cash is irretrievable - once it's picked up at the other end, it's untraceable and gone. If they want you to call them up for instructions, they may tell you not to discuss the wire with Western Union desk clerks but the real reason is WU clerks are familiar with these scams and will warn you not to wire the money. ahey susan and gary got me to wire dem 200 on thursday march 17, 2011 i want to find these people dey gotta b somewhere in dc,,, i ben tryna call dem to trick dem into giving me an adress.. da only one dey gave was independence ave across from the HHH building 27th floor.... im so mad...dey called from 202 657-5331 dats watson number and susan number is 202 621-0299 and 202 4369101. dese numbers still work.. but after dey find outs its u dey block your number.. if any body find anything out about there whereabouts or how can i get my money back i still have my western union reciept.. email me at blanding_s@hotmail.com asap dis [***] is crazy... called da embassy of india or sumend...someone find dem its ether justice or vengence will be served

Its not hard to fake a phone number if you know what you are doing.  

They are probably in India.  Or maybe in Nigeria.  Anywhere that local law does not take the crime seriously and local law enforcement does not cooperate with US law enforcement in prosecuting this crime.

they got me for 190  and they go by the names of gary watson and the lady name is susan i was pissed off and i realized im still upset

most likely they are calling from India and therefore virtually untraceable.  I have come very close to being scammed myself.  Also be careful of anyone stating that they are taking you to court over an unpaid payday loan.  This is a scam.

I have been getting a call from gary watson for about a week now telling me that I have been approved for a government grant In the amount of 5,000 and to redeem it I would have to send them 190$ via western union the first day I was actually in western union about to send them the money but my job messed up on my check and deposited into someone else's account by mistake luckily because I would of been out of my money he kept calling me saying that my grant would be canceled tomorrow if I didn't go threw with it they was going to cancel my grant luckily I googled Gary's name because I would of been out of money I desperately need

What do you do if someone calls you, tells you they are a law firm, has your info already and say they company I worked for and knew the amount of back pay I was supposed to get already. Non the less they told me they had a "settlement" of $7010.23 well they said they just needed a western union security deposit (of $180)... ok I was stand offish but hey 180 for 7000, ill take it! lol. Well, then This Lawyer says that The IRS wouldn't let it go through because of $437.00.. And I was thinking.. Hmm why send this to this person... but thinking on impulse.. I paid it, Because I figured if i Have Taxes that I needed to pay... do it now and make it right. Now then i waited 10 minutes and got the call from this "lawyer" saying  "It went through, you just got to pay 735.00 and then you will have it shipped immediately." yeah thats when i put a stop to it. i asked if they could just deduct it, they said no. iT this was today 12/8/11. they said i had to give them 735 by tomorrow 12/9/11, then i get nothing. It seemed almost legit until then.. B/c they western union'd the amount I was to get, but just got held up by the back tax thing. Now I dont know if im getting scammed or not. But it doesn't help thinking i am on account of both people I talked to were of indian descent but said they're names were "Albert Scott" and "Gary Watson". What Can/Should I do about this...?

2 calls from this number came to my cell phone.  did not know the number so i did not answer.  after reading all these stories i am glad i did not answer.  Don't ever give a stranger money.  if it seems to good to be true it probably is not true.  don't waste your money.

I dont  answer to such scams like that !!!! Its not worth sending money to them when they can take everything you have everyone . If they call again  everyone follow my advice dont answer the phone they will scam you for everything you  got !!!!!

I got that call today too . I dont answer to these calls . Where the crap are these ppl get our home and  cell phone #s . I dont send money to ppl I dont trust Iann . They are looking for  ways to drain ppl out of their accounts and their credit \ debit cards . They need a  real job so that they will learn what it takes to get earn money instead of  scamming  ppl of their money that they  have saved over years !!!!

I dont answer to these pinheads looking for people to scam .Where are they getting our phone numbers everyone ? They need to be stop before they scam  again . They need have real  jobs like working a minimum wage jobs to see how  hard it is  to work for a dollar and save instead of scamming  people pout their hard earned money . They will be  found  . They will pay for their sins to society and will be put to jail to rut . If they call you again please DO NOT answer the phone . Its a  scam . I didnt  answer them  today and I looked up the # its not worth sending money to  this  Gary Waston and Susan person they will scam you out of your money .

I got this phone call shown "UNAVAILABLE", but luckly I can trace the number shown 202-407-9056. I quickly google and found out people reported exactly the same the Indian accent guy told me. He said he needs to verify I am the right peron then the government will grand me 7000. I ask where the company and spell for me, he did not do that and continue ask quesitons. I believe this is a scam and hope no more phone call from them.

Haha!  They have called me 6 times today on my cell.  Think I will call them back and mess with them a little bit. I'm going to ask them which bone-headed congressman wrote this bill to give $7,000 to random people for no reason when our country is so far in debt.  Please everyone, remember the old addage - If it sounds too good to be true, it is!

I too received a call from 202-407-9056 (disconnected or no longer in service). The Indian (HEAVY, HEAVY ACCENT) said his name was Matthew Parker (yeah right!).

The dead giveaway this was a scam was his statement, "The government wants to give you money to help you pay your bills" (REALLY! I WORK FOR A LIVING, THEY TAKE MONEY FROM THE PEOPLE THAT WORK AND GIVE IT TO THE PEOPLE THAT DON'T WORK!) They don't do that in India do they!

I wanted to see what type of personal information he would brazenly ask for so I continued the call. When he asked me how I wanted to receive my GRANT OF $7000, Direct Deposit (no way, definitely needs my bank account info), Cash (wasn't sure how THAT would work), or MasterCard (that sounded good, send me a prepaid MasterCard, right? Wrong!) "Okay", he said, "please give me YOUR MasterCard number so we can get you the money" (I don't think so MATTY-BOY)

He then said that I would have to call his Senior Account Manager, Patrick Johns (isn't that the owner of Papa Johns Pizza?) at 347-573-9347 to arrange the CASH OPTION. Reached a voice message when I called. Was asked to leave my name and number...Nnnah!

IT SEEMS TO ME WITH THE LEVEL OF TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE, THESE CALLS COULD BE TRACED AND THESE CROOKS CAUGHT AND SEVERELY PROSECUTED!!

I guess the "Customer Service" thing didn't work out or it just doesn't PAY as well as CRIMINAL ACTIVITY! HELL, THEY'LL BE LAZY AMERICANS YET!! (No, I don't think ALL Americans are lazy, but the LAZY AMERICAN is about to be the MAJORITY group in this country if SOMETHING DOESN'T CHANGE!!)

May 2013, I just got a call from 202-407-9056, an 'indian' accent. He was going to send me 7 grand... I'm glad that I looked it up here, but I wouldn't have sent any money regardless. I was raising my voice just trying to have him get to the point. The "government" was going to give me 7 grand for paying my taxes? What government is that?

Just got a call from the same number stating that we got a $7000 grant from the government. I hung up immediately!
