I applied for a grant with a breast foundation.  It is scary they have too much information.  When I questioned them about their location and what part of the government they were affiliated the call was dropped.  The number they used is (202) 559-7868.  I tried to search is in a reverse number program and it said could not find the number.

The woman had a heavy accent knew my name address and telephone number she stated that the government picked me to receive a grant for 7000 thousand dollars.  The news sound good but do not fall for this scam. The woman told me to call this number 347-380-6882 gave me a secret number ck7779 I called the number another woman with an accent they claim to work for treasure department of united states federal grant.  The woman asked me how I want my money she stated western union It can go to your bank or credit card. I stated I want a check mailed to me. She stated we do not mail checks if you want us to western union it we will but I need you to purchase a green dot reloader money pack and put 200 dollars on it scratch off the numbers and give them to me. If you do this your 7000 grant will come in a few hours.  I did my research first discovered it was a scam people can be evil and cruel to other people stealing money from innocent working American citizens something should be done about this situation.  If we allow this to happen what will become of us in the future this must stop! We are not safe people!

I got the call after applying to go back to school. I knew it was a scam from the start. These people simply use a fake Washington Dc area code and have a hierarchy system with "supervisors" and "directors". Every single person you talk to has a deep accent which leads to a lot of repeating and "pauses" when you ask hard questions. They use the official United States Department of Health and Human Services address and a version of the real director's name(Lee Wilson) during this scam. We will revisit the importance of the name "Lee Wilson" shortly.

First, the scammers try to reassure you that the call and process is legit. They even acknowledge that they read a lot of bad reviews online. They comfort you by telling you that they are the US government and you have the option to not take the money. Before you can even ask to speak to a supervisor they tell you to hold on and they send the call over to a "supervisor". This is their way of appearing to be legit. Now here is where the name "Lee Wilson" becomes important. Lee Wilson works for the United States Department of Health and Human Services. You can find Mr. Wilson's number on the official HHS.gov website. Now back to the scam. The scammer's "supervisor" will tell you that his full name is "Wilson Lee".  That is not a typo. See the trickery? Then he will tell you that his office is at 200 Independence Avenue. Then he will again reassure you that he is the US government. This "supervisor" who is portraying to be the lead director for the United States Department of Health and Human Services has an accent so thick you have to ask him to repeat everything he says. Please know that the real Lee Wilson is an American citizen who speaks perfect and clear English.

Anyway, they will ask you to give your bank account number and routing so that they can direct deposit the money into your account. They will also ask you to put a specific amount of money on a Green Dot card and give them the card number. In this case they wanted $200.

If you start asking questions such as the following they will transfer your call or hang up:

Why would a maternity/disease/ prevention office inform me about Federal Reserve grant money? Why would any organization inform me that I have grant money when I never filled out an application? Why are you asking for a Green Dot payment?  Why not send the grant money by check?

    Be safe.

I got a call today from a woman with a seriously thick Indian accent telling me that I was chosen for a 9,000.00 grant because I was in a survey a few months ago and that I had 3 options to get the money: 1) account number, 2) credit card/debit card, 3) cash in person.I thought she said check so I asked for a check and she said that they don't do checks which I thought was weird so I obviously went with option 3 because it sounded a little too good to be true and I don't trust anyone with the other 2 anyway. She told me to call a Melvin Kel at 206-314-7107 to get more information. When she thought I hung up, I heard her exclaim "oh my god" like it was a stressful call because I kept asking her to repeat information. I'm not gonna call him because I looked this up.

I just received a call from the "US Treasury Dept" in Washington DC lol (it was a scam) the phone number I was asked to call back was Anthony Bowman at 202-657-6093. As I was on the phone with him I was on the computer looking up US Treasury scams and came across basically the exact same one. I was offered $10,000 if I sent $225 to Washington lol. (my secret number was DC452) I then called him out on it and he got very upset and defensive, now the U.S Treasury I'm sure would act in a more professional manner, mind you this was the BBB Better Business Bureau's website I got the scam info off. So beware, if you get calls saying you "won" free money from the US Gov't, do not give any personal info until you do your research, because you will be scammed!!!! again the number was 1-202-657-6093 and he said he has been doing this for 3 years! let's do something about these no good pieces of [***].

My wife and I were both called from the same number 202-411-5235. Same scam as everyone else, a government grant of 9000 because we paid our taxes and some other stuff on time. But the only way they could pay us was using our debit card or checking information. Needless to say I asked if they would provide me with a check since I know all government payouts use a check as a means of payment also. I then asked her if she knew my name because how does she know she is giving the right person the money. She said she knew my name and then proceeded to hang up on me. Don't fall for the scams!

Received call 8/25-2014 13:08:13 Caller ID read "8745-5123" Man
speaking English asked for me by name. Started discussing federal grant
that I had won. Told me that I was allotted $9000 and I would not need
to pay it back. -told him I don't need a grant and abruptly terminated
the call. - Very noisy background , many people talking, could hardly hear the person. But definitely stinks to high heaven of a scam and it is as SCAM. They are just trying to get your banking information or credit card number.
