- Call type: Telemarketer
- Sandy MorseThese people called me a couple times today and a few times for the past couple days and said I had qualified for free grant money to use on whatever legal purposes I needed and asked me for my bank account information or credit card information to deposit it within 30 minutes. I told them that I have had people trying to scam me before so how do I know this isn't a scam. They assured me it wasn't a scam and proceeded to tell me that if I didn't believe them as they put it, then I can call a number and give their I.D. number and they can explain to me how it works and retrieve my bank account information. They insisted that I give a credit card number and they can do it that way instead. I said how about a check in the mail? They said it would be faster to do it with my bank account or a credit card. I said well, I have no credit card. Are you going to provide me with one? They paused for a brief moment and said okay. Then after a pause for about 7 seconds, they hung up on me. Definitely a scam. Oh my god am I so glad I didn't fall for it. I was tempted but had a gut feeling that it wasn't right. I never give my personal or bank information out to just anybody.

- Regretful| 1 replyStupidly gave my cell phone on Wednesday to a writing website. Later found information describing site as a scam. Now I am getting 10 to 12 calls a day from all over the US about grants and colleges. The caller from this number asked for me by name. I asked who was calling and they hung up. A few of the other numbers also hung up.
- Caller: Hung Up without disclosing name
- Notell replies to RegretfulI would suggest you change your phone number.
AT&T will do it for free, one time only. After that,
the charge is $15.00. It might be worth it, in your
case.
You can also change your number,
of course, if you have a different carrier.

I got the same call just now! The lady had a foreign accent. She said the same thing above. I said this sounds like a scam and she yelled something I couldn't understand and hung up! The bad thing about this, she knew my name and this number. I hadn't this number only 5 months and I don't give it out freely!
So who is selling our names to people?
It didn't trick me!- Caller: US Govt Grant
- College StudentA woman called me saying she was from the government and that I had won a government grant of $10,200 just for paying my bills on time, even though I don't. She had an accent, it was hard to understand her. She told me it was really easy, all I had to do was give her my bank account number or credit card information and she would transfer it, just like that. I laughed at her and hung up. XD
- Caller: "the Government"
- IleanaI keep getting calls from this number, which shows up on my caller ID as "Washington DC". The caller has an accent (sounds like the Philippines) and ALWAYS asks for Jane Smith....ya, that doesn't sound shady at all. The first time I told them that no one by that name lives here, the caller said, "Well, as long as I have you on the line, let me explain how you can save on prescriptions." I immediately hung up. Now when they call, as soon as I ask for a supervisor to be removed from the call list, click...they hang up. These people are clearly up to no good.

- BrendaI received a call from this number today instructing me that the government was going to give me $10,200. I hung up on the caller.

I have had one other encounter with the same woman(heavy accent source unknown) saying she wanted to talk to me about colleges???? Lately been getting a lot of calls on my cell number which is registered with the DNC list and has been for a number of years. ANNOYING IN THE EXTREME.
- joseph castellanoNigerian scammer wanting to give me a $10,000.00 free grant saying they were with the US federal government
- Caller: federal government
- freckleface replies to adzoviaThey called my phone, and I denied the call. Then, not even 2 mins later, they called again and it showed up as a Private Number!!! He gave the same line as everyone else said, and I immediately cut him off saying that I was not interested, to take me off the list, and hung up on them. We'll see if they call Back, lmao. If they do, I'm really gonna play with them :-)
- Vickie replies to Chris LaddSince last Friday I have been getting these calls and keep asking for the not to call and they get very defensive. The call on both my home number and my business line and I am hesitant to answer if is my business line as I work with folks across the country. It is very annoying and they are difficult to understand and can't seem to understand that we know that "nobody get's anything for nothing" these days. How do we stop these calls?
- Irene cornwell replies to Blessed@36| 1 replythey called us also,my husband said nothings free and he hung up , then they called back how do they get your # if you are o the do not call list ???
- TammieSame phone number called me 5 times today 202-697-9205. I finally answered curious why anyone from District of Columbia would be calling me as to I know no one in this area. Said I had a government grant waiting for me and asked for my age and zipcode. Don't know how they even got my number, this alone is quite disturbing to me! I told the man I was at work and needed a number to call back. He gave me the number and kept asking me what account would I like the money deposited to. I of course didn't give him an account number or a credit card number. Told him I'd call back. I knew immediately this was a scam, and wondered how many others they had actually were able to pull this scam on. Most of of do due diligence and are aware that these phone calls are a scam. No government office is going to ask for those things with no correspondence ahead of time and ligitement information involving the process. Not to mention it has to be facillatated by the person who is seeking a grant. I only urge that you PLEASE do not be fooled and give your information to them. I am going to find out who to contact to report this and will let everyone know. One of my best friends is a Fed Marshall, he may know who we all need to talk to about this matter. Hopefully!!!!!
