this is nothing to laugh about this people harrass you, none stop. I though that after you place your phone nomber to be taken away from this calling list they shoudn't call you anymore, but I was wrong. They are like blood socking bats, or mosquitoes. In reality, know what else to do. But this I will say I do not ask them to buy my debt from anyone.

I just started getting calls from them, interestingly enough, I also just ran my credit and I dont owe anyone anything. So I dont know why they are calling me... I wish they'd actually speak when they answer it.  I played with them before and won big... First play the 3rd party disclosure card, they are not allowed to reveal any information at all about you to anyone.  Dont answer any questions specifically get them to tell you with questions to their questions.  I won against them 2x for people and it was removed from their credit.  The violations of FDCPA fines both federal and state, scare the crap out of them.. If you know the law, you can play a game....They suck at it...

These idiots called me this morning to tell me that I have to pay for an account from a jewelers from over 20 years ago. This account in question was my ex-husbands account and we weren't even married anymore at this time. The female on the line (I won't say lady) stated that she didn't care and the account needed to be paid. I told her then find him and have him pay, she said no she wanted me to pay. Then she starts yelling at me that I need to pay this bill so of course I start yelling back and it ended with her yelling how I'm going to pay her. What is wrong with this company? My ex owes the money not me and it was over 20 years ago can they do this legally?

Or maybe you all should have just paid your bills in the first place and then they wouldnt have a reason to be calling you?!? I think they should be able to hound u until u payback whatever it is that is owed!

I agree we should all pay our bills, but like some other people the debt they are calling me about belongs to my EX- husband.  They don't care one way or the other, they are illegally harrassing me!!  They were the ones that chose to buy up BAD debt that has been written off by the original lender.  They could at least make sure they are going after the correct person.  These people are tactless and quite frequently breaking the law!!

The scum bags have also resorted to obtaining your city's local exchange numbers. I am not quite sure what its going to take to stop them. They are keeping their terror crusade alive because people are paying them,

Unlike U all R Pathetic, I don't work for Portfolio Recovery. However, don't use an air horn. If someone is injured from an air horn you can be prosecuted for assult and sued for damages; and remember they have your address and phone number.

However, before you answer, write down the area code. Then if you live in one of the 38-39 one party states, ask the caller where they are located. If they aren't in the same state as the caller id area code, tell them they are committing a crime since using fake caller ids is illegal. Then tell them you are recording the call. Usually they end the call. If you are in a 2 party state, ask them for permission to tape then if they don't hang up, don't say anything else. Ask them about the weather. Ask them how their football team is doing. Don't ever acknowledge the debt. Act like those calling from Manilla, that you don't understand.

Debt collectors and owners of debt can use any legal method to collect that debt, even if it's over 20 years old. However, if you don't owe the debt, challenge the debt and if they still hound you, contact your Attorney General. It took a while, but th AGs put the warranty con men out of business.

I've received numerous calls, during all hours, from this number and several of the others listed. at least that is what caller ID says. Yesterday I answered and told them they have the wrong #. Today, for the first time every, I got a voice mail that said something along the lines of, "This call is for so-and-so only. If you are not so-and-so, please call 866-352-0458 to have your number permanantly removed (yeah right). If you are so-and-so this is AFNI with an important personal business matter. Please call 866-352-0458. This is an attempt to collect a debt....."

    Yeah, good luck bottom feeders.

The debt these bootom feeders are trying to collect on is from 1988 and was written off by the original creditors! How can these pigs do this legally and what can I do to prevent further phone harassment?

    Ed:

Debt doesn't go away. It is either paid off, nulified in bankruptcy, or settled. What does go away is the lender's rights to collect. Depending on what state you live in, there are limitations on how long the lender has to sue or provide negative information to credit agencies. These companies buy old and sometimes very old debt for pennies on the dollar. Surprisingly,  some people pay their very old debt. If they follow the law, they can attempt to collect that debt forever. I would think that they are smart enough to stop trying after many attempts, but they don't have to.
