I can honestly tell you that they have NO CLUE>  In 2008, I was laid off of my job.  I did have credit insurance but HSBC denied my claim.  I filed complaints with the dept of insurance.  By the end of the year, I started getting calls from Portfolio.  On the occasion that I did speak to a representative, I did confirm the letters of objection with supporting documentation.  Of course they then "acknowledge" and then 90 days later they start up.  Of course in late 2009, some yahoo claims I need to send them a letter AGAIN.  So I did CERTIFIED.  I am in the process of having my pre-paid legal service f/up with them.  Until they disprove my claims of erroneous denial, I will not pay them unless the settlement would be what I SHOULD HAVE still been paying.

THEY CONSTANTLY CALL ME FROM A LOT OF LISTED NUMBERS. They are trying to collect on a debt that I didnt accrue and the account was opened when i was 5 years old in a town i never lived in. They have been informed that i will no longer accept calls on a business phone number, and if they continue i want to press charges.

They will get theirs in the end - a lost job from harassing people without cause.  This should even be considered a violation of the Constitution which prohibits unlawful search and seizure.  Maybe the Justice Department instead of the FCC should check these [***] out.  Yes, I said it!  If anyone would work for an organization like this, they rate that word and others.  My credit rating is 810 and I have never had a debt but they keep calling asking for another person.

    TIRED OF IT!!!!
They call at all times during the day and night. I answer the phone like I am going to talk to them and then I blow their ear drums out with my air horn. It worked pretty good. I didn't receive a call from them in nearly a month. So now when they call I just give'em the ol' air horn treatment and they usually don't call back for weeks. Just a suggestion for all of you that are tired of it too!!!!

These people want to collect on an old debt, as old as 20 years ago. When they ask me how can we work together to resolve the (so called) debt, I said, "send me the invoice of the debt in the mail, so that I can write out a check to resolve it." The person responded, "I don't have an invoice to send you." So I said, "then I do have my money to send you." I went on to say, "If you cannot produce and invoice that would show who it is that I am in debt to, then we can end this phone call." The person said, "Good bye."

These idiots are trying to collect on a debt for which Providian already got a tax credit/write off. They have many numbers. I push ignore on my phone and then store the number with title do not answer and put it on no ringer. they never leave a msg. I've also sometimes answered and telling them that they have a wrong number that I am Mrs. (make up a name). They usually quit. I have a guy who used to use my real phone number as his for his bad debts so I usually use his name.

When Providian wrote off your debt for tax purposes, it didn't go away, it just gave them a 0.00 basis. If they sold it, they have to pay capital gains taxes on whatever they sell it for. If these Bozos recover more than they paid Providian, they pay capital gains taxes on the difference. Don't confuse tax basis for legal debt.

These clowns have been calling me for close to two years on a regular basis - every day of the week several times a day.  On top of that I have no clue why.  I have CID so when I see one of their numbers I just disconnect or blow a whistle.  I have reported them several times to FCC but it does no good.  They need to be shut down.

AS mentioned before, Port Folio Recovery is located in Virginia.  I had a vehicle that was re possessed and they sold it at auction, but they still want $16,000 or more in payments from me which I do not have.  I am now on Social Security Disability, so my Government check cannot be garnished to pay these creep.  They do have about 30 or more numbers that they use.  And, sometimes they will try to call from other areas of the United States just to get me to answer the phone.  I live by myself and I check every number on Google to see who it is.  I don't answer my phone unless I know it is my doctor or friends.  For awhile E R Solutions has been calling me.  Tonite is the first time in about 3 or 4 months that Port Folio has tried to call me.  They were calling me 3 or 4 times a day and I usually turn my ringer off.  I live in Tennessee so they cannot call before 8 a.m. and they cannot call after 9 pm.  However I believe they tried to call me a few times at 1 or 2 a.m. to try to get me to answer the phone making me think it was a family emergency.  If somethings shows up Out of Area or Unknown Number I do not answer it.  So, always make sure you google numbers to see who it is before you answer or return a call.

What they do is buy old, uncollectable, debts past the statute of limitations for pennys on the dollar. They hope they can fool enough people into paying so they reinstate the debt, and then they can sue and get a judgement. DO NOT PAY!!!!!!! HANG UP!!!!!!! They must get enough fools to pay, because Portfolio Recovery is traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

The law firm of Turner Law Offices, LLC has filed a Class Action lawsuit against Defendant Portfolio Recovery Associates, Inc. ("PRA") in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia on behalf of all persons in the State of Georgia who, since October 28, 2010, received a non-emergency telephone call from PRA to a cellular telephone through the use of an automatic telephone dialing system or an artificial or prerecorded voice and who did not provide prior express consent for such calls during the transaction that resulted in the debt owed.
