I have gotten the exact same emails everyone else has from barry. I decided to take a cue from one of the other posters and had him send the check to my local police station. I even gave him their phone number to call. I will include my emails to and from him here for everyone to see. I really played up being naive because I really want him to send that check to the cops. I will be contacting the police on monday to give them a heads up. I doubt they will do anything about it, but its kind of funny.

I eagerly await the check. you don't happen to have a tracking number for it do you? that way I know when to expect it, so I can make sure someone is home to accept it if it requires signature etc. As soon as the check is in hand or I have the tracking number I will go ahead and pull the listing. No offense but I had one other person say they were going to buy it and I pulled the listing and then they never contacted me again. I'm not sure I understand the part about refunding the balance to the mover?



That is all I've got from him so far. I just sent the last message a few hours ago, so we will see how he responds. like I said I figured this out after the second email, but it was still nice finding this sight to double confirm this scammer. It sucks, i really want to sell this thing and after awhile you almost want to grasp at straws and want to believe the guy. I'm sure even if we do nab "barry" two more will take his place.
Just a side note between ebay and craigs list I've noticed these guys stick to vehicles under a thousand dollars, at least the few I've been able to track. I wonder if the penalties are less if it is under a grand, or maybe they think it is easier pickin. I'd be interested in anyone elses opinions on it.

He just emailed me today about a couple things I had on craigslist.  I hate this scammer [***], what can we do?

I also got that same message today but the name had changed slightly.  He was going by Barrie Bongo on his first e-mail and using the e-mail address bariebongo07@gmail.com.  The electronic signature on second e-mail showed the name Barry Johnson.

I'm from Iowa and I'm not planning to respond to him anymore, but if there's anything I can do to help let me know!

It's an automatic e-mail, because one of his responses to me was an exact duplicate of what he sent the first time. He also changes up his tactics and wants to e-mail me a check to print out myself and try to cash. Yeah, right!  Maybe he got sick of sending evidence to the police station addresses that people have been giving him.  Watch out for this guy,  these are his e-mails:

This guy is a peice of work. He emailed about a car I am trying lease on Craigslist. His first email was from bbbjohn003@yahoo.co.uk.

Suspicious, as I live in Massachusetts and his email if from the UK.. long way to travel to take over the lease.  

I responded though and let him know it was available and his response was from another email address.
