Called the 209-473-8558 number this morning BEFORE 9AM PDT and line was answered by answering machine identifying number as "California Police Youth Charities regional fund-raising office".  The message gives the option to leave your phone number to be deleted from their database.  I left the home number and also mentioned we were on the National DNC list.  We'll see what happens, but it seems to be legit.  I'm a retired 30-year law enforcement supervisor.

It's not legit. California Police Youth Charities is based in Sacramento and Attorney General Jerry Brown recently filed charges against them and other allegedly false charities. Contact your local Police Department and you will likely discover they have their own Police Youth Activities operation that is wholly unrelated to CPYC and is not calling your house. Here in Stockton the PYC is funded largely by donations from police.

WE HAVE RECEIVED NUMEROUS CALLS FROM THIS PHONE NUMBER.  WE ARE ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST.  THEY CALL ALL DAY AND NIGHT.  IT NEEDS TO BE STOPPED.  THE PHONE COMPANY MUST HAVE A NAME AND ADDRESS CONNECTED TO THIS NUMBER.  THEY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN AND CHARGED WITH DISTURBING THE PEACE.

I have heard it all now, the police making prank phone calls. When I answer they just hangup. Who is paying these guys? Whoever is should be stopped. They need to get other jobs or go to jail or something!

They got my answering machine but left no message, when I tried to return their call, they answered and hung up. I am a law enforcement officer and I will make sure this is addressed.

The # 209-473-8501 calls and calls. There's no one there when I answered so I quit answering. They never leave a message so I googled the # and got this blog. I am on the "do not call" list so now I'm wondering if the dnc list is legit.

I got a call from these people tonight.  My caller ID was CPYC.  
If anyone has a caller id box, you have the capability of Blocking this number or any other number that you choose.  As long as they've called once, you can block them.  They will never get through again!

I got a call @ 5:55PM 8- 28-2009 from this number 1-209-473-8501 asking for a donation of $35.00 sounded legitimate. glad that i have checked on line.

Donation for california at risk youth.

I do believe that I just got scamed! Please beware! They just asked for a donation of $35 $50 $75 or $100. I promised  a donation of $35.00. Then looked this number up on lline to find this! Never have I ever thought that I would be scamed!

recieved a call from california youth at risk 1-209-473-8501 8-28-2009 @ 5:55 PM.  Said they were from california police youth charity. I pleged $35.00. They had me placed on hold for a person to verify my address and name. Asked again if they could count on my donation. Also said the call was being recorded.

I recieved a call from CPYC August 28,2009 at 5:55 Pm. I was talked into giving a donation of $35.00. They then transfered my call to another person who then validated my personal information and kept repeating "We can count on your donation right". I said yes. After the call I got a little suspicious. So I started to look them up on line. I have so far found many complaints against this charity as well as a law suit filed May 29,2009 in the county of Los Angeles. I did recieve mail from CPYC today September 3,2009 and I will not be donating any money. The office number which I plan to call is 1-800-410-8094. The tax Id # matches the one on the law suit which is 30-0121107. I plan on calling the 800 number to inform them that I will not be returning a donation. And that I am taking this and all the other information that I have researched to my local police department. Just in case they try to harrass me. This is a eye opener for me. I will not donate for any charity again over the phone or by mail. I will only donate locally where I can be sure that I am not going to taken avantage of. I am not rich. I have children and a husband in college. I always give from the heart. NO LONGER WILL THAT BE THE CASE.

The California Police Youth Charities is based in Roseville, CA, not in Stockton. And their web address is calpyc.com. Obviously a scam, I wonder if they just hang up on middle-aged men, and keep dialing for an elderly voice on the phone.

Someone needs to find these people and put them to sleep, like dogs.

I got this call yesterday too.  From CPYC. They did not leave a message and even if they did it will NOT be returned.  HA HA they can play their own game.

Received a call on my cell & when I answered, they hung up.  Called the number back and got a busy signal too.  Thanks to this website, I now know that the culprits are darn telemarketers!

This number: (209)473-8501 keeps on calling me. I'm getting annoyed. I'm going to answer the next call and perform one of my famous screams...that should keep them off my number for a while.
I have no idea what they want, but I am not going to find out.

I also received a call from CA Police Youth Charities.  I also got a hang up from them.  What most of you don't realize is that despite the fact we are all on the DNC list, Federal law allows charities, polling organizations and political cause organizations to call you. They are exempt from DNC.  That is the only hole in the law.  Also businesses with which you have a relationship as a customer or former customer within the last 18 months are allowed to call.  The only hope you have is to individually contact each and notify them that you want to be on THEIR DO NOT Call list.  They are required to comply in a reasonable period of time.  If they contact you after that you have the right to seek damages.  But even a telemarketer who calls you by mistake gets one free ride in most cases.  You must notify them that you are the DNC list and then if you get a second call you can nail them big time.  And trust me they know it.

Sacramento charity among 12 sued in statewide crackdown

The CPYC operation, its executive director, Christopher Eaton, and its Texas-based for-profit phone fundraisers were accused of defrauding and misleading donors about how much of their money would really go to charitable activities.

The state also accused the charity of falsely reporting that it handed out almost $1 million in grants in 2006; it gave out only $110,000, the state alleges.

In court documents, the attorney general also alleged that Eaton failed to use donations for the purposes for which they were requested; CPYC also falsely said its financial statements were audited when they weren't audited.

This was reported May of last year, yet they STILL call, and most the time they hang up.
