Got a call from this number, heard a click then the line disconnected.  This has happened before, but this time I thought I would google the phone number on the caller ID.  No surprise that I found this link with complaints against this number.

They called our house for the first time...what sounded like a 20 year old mail said the words "home alone" somewhat drawn out...Active duty military family here, and not home alone for sure...funny that in this day and age we still get stupid prank calls.

    Dear Joy,
You sound like you have a good heart but take it from someone who's been around for a while:  never give, donate, or pledge anything over the phone, at the door, or via email.  The same counts for credit card and social security numbers. Never provide them to anyone soliciting over the phone, at the door, or via email.  If you want to give to a charity, check them out before giving anything.  If you happen to be answering the phone and they get pushy, HANG UP.  Better yet, if you have caller ID, do not answer the phone unless you recognize the caller, and turn the ringer off if the ringing bothers you.  The CPYC called us too last night and hang up when we did not answer.  We also got a call from a phony breast cancer outfit.  They left no message either.  No end to scammers out there.

Yeh, this CA police youth charities are a real pain.  I gave them money but never again.  They don't leave a message, just hang up.  Call all the time.  Real jerks.  Makes me not want to help the police.

This company is out for a profit. They give very little money raised to help the youth in the community. Most of the money used to help the youth stays in Northern California. I heard they had a deal with the Oakland Raiders to take kids to the games but the main use was the Suite they bought with the money and would have parties spending $1000's on alcohol. This is what the donations are being used for.
The owners take large salaries and buy big homes, motorcycles, vacations etc.

The law suit with the Attorney General made less money go to the charity and more to the telemarketing company, which is all about profit.

Once you make a donation to this program you are put on a list of other charities the telemarketing company raises for. They will call you  to try and get more money out of you.

CPYC is a BOGUS CHARITY...read my proof.

Brown today sued Sacramento-based California Police Youth Charities, its executive director and its for-profit fundraisers — National Consultants, Inc. and Public Appeals, Inc. — for falsely promising contributors that 100 percent of donations would go to support the charity's programs to help at-risk youth. In reality, less than 20 percent of the $9 million raised in 2006 and 2007 was spent on charitable programs.

The comment before mine is true.  As soon as I started making donations to CPYC I noticed a number of charities started to call and mail me for donations.  Obviously they have other so called "charities" that are doing the same thing.  Please beware.

Hi, I'm an employee of this company, and reading all of these posts is somewhat difficult for me. I'm not a fast talking telemarketer, but I do enjoy being able to raise money for at risk youth. I would like to briefly address some of the issues I'm reading. One: we are not crooks, and we are not getting rich from a charity. We get paid minimum wage to try our best to raise money for children and that's why er are endorsed by the police. People wonder why the poilce aren't calling. Well. The police ate busy being police. That simple. You will NEVER be contacted by an officer for these purposes. I would love to address all of the issues I'm reading but I haven't the time now. If anyone has any questions I will be happy to answer them.

I have been doing research into this company and the fact that they were involved in a lawsuit. I was surprised to see that most charities have been sued at some point. Even the red cross was sued many times. Any nut job can sue but the fact that thus charity is still in business and the lawsuit was not successful  has to tell you something. I gave to 15 dollars last campaign. I don't se sufficient evidence to support any claims that this charity, which is backed by officers and FBI officials is anything other than exactly what they claim to be when they called me.

    Received a call from these guys 2/28/12 - they are ***USING A NEW NUMBER: *** 209-220-1901 !!!!!!!!!!

I did not answer and they did not leave a message - their number showed up on my caller ID. IF they call again I will RIP THEM A NEW ONE!!!!!!

I HATE people that take advantage of the generosity of Americans!!! They DISCUST ME!!!

PLEASE READ the complaint filed by the California Attorney General in 2009!!!!!!! The owners of this company are NOT Americans - they all have foreign names and are probably using the money to give to terrorist groups - that IS how they keep funded!!!!

To the guy that works for this organization:
QUIT NOW before the authorities throw you in jail for aiding and abetting!!!!! Knowingly working for a company that is involved in any type of fraud makes you an accessory to fraud - which means JAIL TIME!!!!!!!

There are plenty of ligitimate non-profit charities in California that you can work for that do not have a long history of ripping people off!!!!! FLIPPING BURGERS AT MCDONALDS WOULD BE MORE HONORABLE THAN WORKING FOR THESE EVIL CROOKS(and might even pay better)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually skeptic, the reason the lawsuit didn't go through was because they settled out of court. They would not have settled unless they had reason to believe they would lose the lawsuit. So obviously, there is something shady going on.

You can read the information here: http://www.bbb.org/northeast-california/chari ... lle-ca-40001274

    Excerpt from that site:

    * To the CA Attorney General-$100,000, for attorney's fees

I got the call from CALPYC, heard about 15 seconds of his canned sales pitch.  When I asked where I can go to read more about their organization, he said that's what he is for, to answer any questions.  When I said I didn't have any questions for him and that I wanted to do the research, he stated, "You don't have any questions but you want to know where to go to get information.  Isn't that contradicting?"  He got an attitude and was becoming rude.  He rudely said I could go to CALPYC.com.  I told him to take me off the call list because I didn't like his attitude.  He abruptly hung up.

    Can you say, "SCAM......"?
