I also received a call from this number a few mins ago. Said I would receive two free tickets for a cruise to the Bahamas if I answered a short survey. YA RIGHT! I was asked to press 1 to start the survey. I hung up. I am sure it's a scam. They probably ask you to give them your credit card number to "hold the tickets". DO NOT ANSWER THIS CALL! Probably a scam.

My called ID said the call was from Texas.

Same type of thing happened to me, they called and didn't leave a message.  Since I used to live in San Antonio Texas which is also where the number is from I thought maybe it was an old friend of mine, when I called back it said the call could not be completed as dialed.

I got a call from this number today - didn't answer it - don't recognize it ! Tried to call it back and a voice comes on telling me it cannot connect..........?

Received a call today, a recorded message from them said that I could win or will get a free cruise to Bahamas in return for my answers to 10 questions.  I hung up here.

I live in Ontario, Canada and someone from the States trying to sell something is calling me (210-280-8487) ?? How did they get my number??

I never answer a call from an unknown # until I check it out here 1st. So when I received a call from 210-280-8487 I immediatley checked here. Thanks for all the info about this scam #! I am so sorry I read someone gave them their cc#. I hope you canceled the card in time. It appears they are calling to get your cc# in a variety of ways. I will save the # to my phone & list it as SCAM as I always do. Then when they call back I'll know right away another SCAM is calling. Maybe I should change that to SCUM!

just received a call from this number.  It was an automated system that said for my answers to a quick survey that I would get two all inclusive tickets to the bahamas.  What a joke.

I just got 2 calls and was away from my desk. I didnt answer.... I dont know anyone in texas....

the number 210-280-8487 keeps calling my cell phone and hangs up

The called my cell, it range 4 times and I didn't answer it in time before it stopped.

Folks, please string them along, press one and talk to them, do all that is possible without giving any personal information.

In an attempt to track and block the number spoofing these frauds are using, we need to locate the actual place that we are being called from.

Answering the survey falsely and then inquiring, for example where to expect, your tickets from etc. Don't be afraid to [***] them! We are reverse social-engineering them to take them down. ANY information collect should then be posted here, and perhaps even passed on to the FBI and RCMP fraud divisions.

Just got a call on my cell (Alberta), so I came here to look it up.

Spam has forever been getting worse on the phone, but since registering a business I find I'm getting even more at my company number, plus a larger pile of crap in my snail mailbox as well. Maybe the world's economy being in the toilet has caused the increase too.

I got sick of paying the phone company extra money for the 'priviledge' of blocking up to 12 numbers on my land line, so I recently started using the software/pc/modem solution. I suppose one could buy a box that plugs into their phone to accomplish the same thing.

For the cell phone, I've downloaded an app for my Droid that takes similar action with options such as hanging up immediately, playing a message then hanging up, ringing or not ringing, etc... There's more than one to choose from.

I've had scammers calling me pretending to be the GOC lately too, so I've had enough. Legitimate people will leave appropriate messages and send you letters if they need to contact you. As for the rest...one strike, you're out from now on!

Another annoyed person from Toronto. And this is my cell phone. I NEVER get spam garbage on my cell. I'm pissed. I do not want my number out there!

i hate spammers. The amount of calls I've been getting recently has increased, though I never ever answer them. This one was from TX (and I live up in Canada). They hungup on the 3rd ring... no message.

Had one today..  Bunch of scam artists I'm sure..  Do not answer unknown numbers.

It's one of those timeshare people.  Don't deal with them.  They will not leave you alone.

The 210-280-8487 number is a scam, or "boiler room", either operating out of San Antonio, Texas,
or using a number-forwarder located there, with a call centre located offshore.  Most likely in India.
Please note:  THIS IS A FAKE, FRAUDULENT BUSINESS VENTURE, OK?
Folks, do not give out *ANY* personal info of any kind to these type of operations.  They will
use whatever they can get, and will have access to *hundreds* of bogus scripts that their callers
will use to get money from you.  They will say *anything*.   Most operations of this sort have limited
lifetimes, and are eventually shut down by the police.  I am in Toronto, and have started getting
these calls on my cellphone.  
There was once a boiler-room phonefraud shop located on Adelaide, near Yonge st, near my old
office many years ago.  They were taking in over $600,000 a week!!   I got the details from the landlord of the place, who a business associate of mine.  We got a chance to look thru their office after the cops had raided the place, and it was wild!   They had these tiny little cubicles, with telephones,
and they hired these low-life types to make the calls.  We saw copies of the *scripts* they used.
It was fascinating.  They had *hundreds* of stories they would use:  Eg.  "You won a VCR, and you
just need to send us the sales tax, before we foreward your prize", or "Its me! Its me! (they would then mumble their name)  I'm in trouble with the police, and you have to send me some money!" (This one worked well on old grandparents, I expect...  It is also a big scam in Japan, apparently)
They place was busted and shutdown by the RCMP and Toronto Police.  Back in the 1990's, they
had this joint operation, called "Phonebusters"  (ala Ghostbusters, I guess?), and it was pretty successful.   Did you know that fraudshop "boiler rooms" were invented in Toronto, in the 1940's?
There were these fake stock-brokers who would sell "penny stock" to Americans.  For a while,
it was technically not illegal.  By the 1960's, the securities laws had been changed, and most were
shut down, but phone-fraud is as old as the telephone.  
Main thing:   Do not, *ever* give out any personal information to any business that you did not
call yourself, or establish the contact yourself.  Just don't do it.  Not even a personal name, or
any info about your circumstances.  They will use it later, to scam your wife/son/daughter/husband
grandmother, etc.   They will say anything, and try to get your VISA card numbers.  
Also, if you are in Canada, you could try contacting the RCMP, or your local police department,
and ask for the phone-fraud group.  (They all have them now, as the problem has grown so big).
I expect similar agencies in the US may be helpful.   Call the local cops, and see if they have a
desk or a group that fights phone-fraud.
Remember, no info over the phone, unless YOU have made the call. That is the best
policy.  If really insistant folks keep bothering you, just politely say that "I do not do business
over the telephone." and hang up.  If you engage the fraudsters, they will use this to extract
valuable personal information from you.

PS.  If I get more of these calls, I think will document it, and call San Antonio police department,
and see if they have a phone-fraud group.  Could be an interesting experience.
