Called this evening about 9:30 pm.  Answered, but immediately muted the phone and just sat there.  I heard part of a recorded female voice say something like "try again later".  After checking on this 800notes web site, I blocked the number on my Panasonic cordless phone system.  Comcast only allows me to block 12 numbers!  I think I do about one per day average.
What a pain in the butt.

I am a Medic Alert member and received a warning from Medic Alert that there is some scam artist(s) illegally using the Medic Alert name and telling seniors that an alert system (like the I've fallen and I can't get up system) has been ordered for them and they are asked for personal info. DO NOT GIVE THEM INFO, HANG UP and report it to your State Attorney General's Consumer Fraud Office.

Called at 10:20 this AM.  Live in NY; first line of caller ID shows 2126775122 (second line shows # with the customary dashes).  Have learned that the no-dash pattern on first line means scammer, soliciter, etc.  Am one of those who does not answer calls from unrecgonized numbers, but let them go to the answering machine.  No mesage was left.  Answering machine tracks the number of times a call has come from any given number; upon second call from this type of number they are entered on call blocking list provided by my phone co.
Volume of undesired calls has gotten so bad that I automatically Google any unrecognized no that does not leave a message.  There are an average of two of these calls per day and at least 3/4s of them are found on this type of list!
We know that the Do Not Call list has not impact but  perhaps we need to give them a stronger legal basis by which to operate, eg:  Any time this # of complaints are recorded, the providing  phone company should be compelled to impose a significant fine on the offending number.

Caller ID said my home town of NEW YORK, but I resisted the temptation to answer it, figuring it was a spoofed call.

When my answering machine picked up, they immediately hung up.

So I immediately filed a complaint at http://www.fcc.gov/complaints

If even half of the people who leave comments here would do the same, we'd shut down these arschlochs.

Started calling yesterday.  3 x so far. I have a Panasonic phone with 3000+ number storage capability but only 30 allowed for blocked calls.  They got it backwards - I need to block 2900 numbers and store 30 numbers that are important.

After numerous calls from this number purporting a free medic alert system, it was easy to determined that this is another phone scam targeted to anyone that answered the phone...

Well, not true. IT won't be OK and neither will your credit card, credit report and you will be Pi**** Off knopwing that you lost money and now a victim of identity theft.
Read the following as reported by Channel 7 Chicago on a news broadcast from the BBB relating to this SCAM ! !
    =======================================

July 31, 2013 (CHICAGO) -- Better Business Bureau serving Chicago and Northern Illinois (BBB) is warning consumers of automated calls promising them a free medical alert system.

Chicago, IL - July 23, 2013 - Better Business Bureau serving Chicago and Northern Illinois (BBB) is warning consumers of automated calls promising them a free medical alert system. The system is supposed to help protect seniors in the event of medical emergencies or break-ins.

BBB has received numerous phone calls and comments from concerned seniors in recent weeks who say they received a call - in these cases automated "robo-calls" - from a company identifying itself as "Emergency Medical Alert Systems," "Senior Safety Alert," "Senior Emergency Care," "Senior Safe Alert," or something similar.

The automated message says that "someone has ordered a free medical alert system for you, and this call is to confirm shipping instructions." The message then instructs the listener to press a button to speak to a customer service representative for verification purposes, where the "representative" asks for the listener's credit card and personal information.

"These automated dialing systems can place tens of thousands of calls a day and the calls appear to target the elderly and disabled" said Steve Bernas, president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau serving Chicago and Northern Illinois. "The calls also claim to be from various well-known medical alert service providers, but the providers say the calls are not originating from them."

BBB shares some tips on how consumers can avoid being a victim:

" Hang up the phone! Do not press any buttons. Don't even speak!
" If you answer and a live person is on the line, ask for the company's physical address. A legitimate company will not refuse to give this information to its potential customers. If the representative refuses to give out a physical address for the company or other identifying information, it is most likely a scam.
" If you are interested ask for something to be sent in writing.
" Don't respond to offers to "opt out" of future calls. That alerts the caller that this is a working number.
" Don't pay for anything you receive and didn't order even if legal action is threatened. According to the Federal Trade Commission you have a legal right to keep it as a "free gift".
" Never give your bank or credit card information, or your social security number to anyone over the telephone.
BBB recommends that if you are listed on the Federal Do Not Call Registry that you file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at www.ftc.gov

I finally answered this call and got a recorded message for a medical alert product. After a short intro it said to press 1 to speak to a representative or press 9 to be put on the DO NOT CALL list. I pressed 9, heard nothing else and hope to get no more calls.

    People,
    1) NEVER answer calls from people you do not know. Don't worry about missing calls. Friends and familiy and people who have a letgitimate reason to call you will leave a message.

    2) If you DO answer, do NOT press any number to "request off their list

Doing either or both 1 & 2 will guarantee you a spot on their list as a "live number" but on all their subsidiaries line-phone list as well.

    3) Get a phone blocker. Go to Amazon and choose. I have Phone Tray, which you can google and get online, and I love it. It is easy and effective. You even have your choice of what the telemarketers will hear when they call: a fast-busy (like a busy circuit) nothing; a recorded message preceded by 3 tones, just like the real one, and then: "Sorry, the number you have called is not a working number. Please make sure you have the right number and have dialed it correctly," or "The number you called is not in service..."Plus about 10 other choices.  You will be so glad you did this.

If you follow these 3 suggestions, you will be so glad you did, and so will the rest of us because the fewer people who pick up these calls, the lower the profits of these jerks, and the sooner they'll go under.
