- Caller: national statistical survey / Green engergy
- Sandy replies to psy| 1 replyI just got the same call from "Lisa" with green company survey! Hung up before she said anymore! But the call said from Batesville, MS with this number 662-267-3038, which is not on any lists yet! Since I live in MS, they must be using a NEW fake number for our area??
- Bryan James'Hi, I'm from Green Energy Survey, blah, blah, blah!
- Caller: Green Energy Survey
- Call type: Survey
- psy replies to SandyFirst, you should go to the thread for that number and post an entry. Then it will be on a list!
BTW FYI; The number is quite often irrelevant in terms of where they are actually located. Anyone can get an actual phone number service in any area code-prefix they like, or they can simply spoof any number of any number of digits in caller ID (via either VOIP or ISDN). Either trick is trivial to do. - walterbeeconstant caller

- riddlz replies to psyThanks for the link PSY. I went ahead and checked out the DoNotCall.gov registry to make sure I'm on the list before I disagreed with the FTC statement.
Received the email confirmation (see below) stating I have been registered on the list since January 13, 2009. I noticed the statement on the email Most telemarketers will be required to stop calling you 31 days from your registration date.
- thank you for correcting my theory of having to re-sign up. I was given incorrect information.Quote:Sorry this is incorrect per the FTC:
However, my statement still holds true from my perspective. Even though I have been on the DoNotCall list. It's still not the catch all / stop all prank calls. I will still diligently block spam calls the way I've done for years. Besides, I've grown accustom to posting on this blogger now. HAHA! I actually have had replies to my posts!
Show image ▶ - Got Potatoes replies to jim idahoJim, I'm curious as to how we will "stop" these calls by not answering them. In my experience, answering very often results in an opportunity to stop further calls. Moreover, once they've gotten an answer, most will stop calling. It just doesn't make sense to me that, by not answering, I will somehow "stop" them. The only possible way not answering would work is if every single human being with a phone stopped answering their phones when they don't recognize the number. Which would cause me a lot of problems, since I sometimes get valuable calls from numbers I don't recognize.
Nobody is going to buy a list generated by people who merely answered their phone. Why bother? Why not just start calling people, willy-nilly, for free? The lists that get bought and sold have details about people. An extremely important detail is, "How much did they spend?" Another: "What do they buy?"
Nobody cares if you answer the phone or not because nobody is calling you; it is a machine. It will just hang up and go to the next number, until it runs out of numbers. Guess what it does then. Give up? It starts calling the numbers that didn't answer. - Ethical Carnivore replies to Ethical VeganIf they "took the coward's way out," how do you know there was any kind of individual making the call? Seems me like a sad person might be one who doesn't understand about automatic dialers.
The way they took the coward's way out is by buying, installing, and utilizing that automated equipment. So, they don't care about your outgoing message. All they care about is if someone is on the line for them to sell something to. Nobody there?
They hang up because in their world, it would be pointless to do anything else. They wouldn't be making those calls if there weren't money in them. I decry their choice of business methods, but I find it sad that people don't understand how the system works.
For example, they may have actually tried to deliver their message but it was shorter than yours, so they finished first. To you, it was a hang-up call, but from their machine's perspective, it might have been counted as a successful call. - Think Some replies to T.R.More. While you're spot on about spoofing, the activity, you've failed to notice one thing about this particular number. They PROBABLY did NOT change it at all, in the previous few months; much less daily. How else would the same number generate pages and pages of comments? It would be interesting to know the ratio between searches on, and comments about, this number. It may be safe to say this number is calling thousands of people daily, since many will not search and many searchers will not comment, and there are many comments.
Does using the same number daily for months mean it's not spoofed? Of course not. Using it again and again, if it is not genuinely the number of the source, won't make it any easier for "the agency" to find them. To that extent, your point is well taken.
However, it is impossible for any agency (FCC, FTC, or local) to go after callers like this if nobody bothers to report the calls. Assuming the number is spoofed is just a lazy way of avoiding the obvious. A concerned, involved, and responsible citizen should complain about bad calls, just as surely as he should vote or pay taxes.
Our governments have set up agencies to help us combat fraud, deceptive marketing of all types, and other abuses. The tax dollars which they rely on in order to operate would go to waste if nobody recognized a certain amount of civic duty in the opportunity to complain. It would be time consuming to complain every time, about every call. It would be irresponsible to come up with some excuse for never, ever, complaining about any call.
As busy as this number is, it is especially deserving of being reported, the same way some people vote: Early and often. - It's Easy replies to Brent WHow do you get around a stop sign? You either stop for it, or you go right on, as if it weren't there. Same with the DNC list. Not everybody plays by the rules. It doesn't look like the user of this number does. My father used to say the only purpose of locks is to keep honest people honest. Same with the DNC list. It only affects the honest telemarketers -- and, sometimes, event those make mistakes in spite of their best efforts.
Sometimes, it's just part of the system. For example, there is a period between when you put your number on the list and when the list is published and when they get the new, revised, list and when the list finally becomes effective in their system. During that time, you may get calls. Other factors can contribute to getting calls, in spite of being on the DNC list.
This number looks like the DNC is being simply ignored. - Do Not Call Registry Is UselessAnd the spammers continue without any fear whatsoever..
