- PattyI received a strange message from this number. It said that I might be sued if I don't call back... or something to this effect. Must be some kind of scam.
- kCalled and threatened civil cuit and a warrant for an unpaid debt about a credit card. Very vague about company name and couldn't give info about the debt. Very suspicious. Gave acct # but then called bank and stopped payment.
- We are in it togetherI had a terrible day today due to the call from 216-393-9240 saying something about getting a criminal warrant for arrest. Like so many posts here and other 216-393-xxxx calls, they have the WRONG PERSON!!! I called my local police department and an officer came to my home to listen to the message. He said the message did not violate any crminal laws but he recommened that I file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I encourage all of you to do the same. So far I am the first person who has ever complained about the company at BBB. You can logon to www.bbb.org and search for the Firm "Robert Goldstein & Associates". They are based in 6100 Oaktree Blvd., Independence, OH 44131. By the way, the officer also educated me that the collection agency can't just get a warrant for criminal arrest. They need to first establish the case in the civil court. A judge will not sign an arrest warrant that easily.
The officer also mentioned that I may want to call back and tell them that they have the wrong person. I called and tried to explained that I am not the person they are looking for. The conversation became heated and a string of profanities came from the "receptionist". I tried calling back and asked to leave a voice mail for Robert Goldstein, but the receptionist blurted another string of profanities before hanging up on me and threatened legal action if I ever called back. Funny isn't it. At least I gave them a dose of their own medicine; repeated unwanted phone calls.
If you are frustrated like me. Contact BBB and complaint. Those folks need to learn to do their homework before randomly fishing for names. There's no link on the Ohio BBB to file a complaint against the company, since the company is new and no one has yet (except me) has filed a complaint. You can send an email directly to Ohio BBB:

- Wrong PersonI got really worried when I got this call today. They told me I owed over 13k from a line of credit I took a while back. Civil and criminal charges were about to be filed against me 'cause I took the credit line without the intention of paying back and that was fraud.
But they were not clear about the company, initial ammount, and such. And at the time they said I took such credit line I wasn't living in the city they said I was. I told them I need it to consult a lawyer an "special investigator Martin" told me to be smart and instead of giving $$ to a lawyer use that $$ in making them an offer to settle the debt.
That looked weird to me. I went and asked for a credit report and nothing showed up there.
I made clear that I had the intention of paying back but I was not sure that debt was mine. I ask them to give me a week to do some research and so. He became very agitated and told me that he couldn't control if by that time a warrant for my arrest had beeb issued.- Caller: Martin

- granny of 3Per Bud Hibbs, stay OFF the phone with these thugs. Here's why:
Bud Says...
CONSUMER ALERT: CMC Recovery employees are calling consumers threatening to file court cases in your local county. They are liars, attempting to extort monies, they are not entitled to. They are being sued by consumer attorneys from across the nation for tens of thousands of dollars, resulting in judgments against them. Do NOT send them any money, they may not be around to spend it!
Here is yet another ‘Buffalo Style’ group of future inmates posing as private investigators threatening litigation. Their con story is they work for New York City Attorney Robert Goldstein & Associates and are out to find your assets.
Consumers need to understand that there is NO Attorney Robert Goldstein & Associates, they cannot sue you or affect any legal claims, and they are con men, full of lies, threats and extortion.
They work out of a hidden office, near Stone Mountain, GA, the phone numbers above are real, and they can be traced to their actual location. The address they use is a UPS Store in Stone Mountain, they answer the phone “Civil Litigations” have absolutely nothing to do with litigation, law or any attorney.
These are crooks, out to fleece you out of your money; the good news is idiot owner, Desmond M. Cooper lives in a fairly nice home and likely has assets when you successfully sue him.
Anyone being contacted by this gang of crooks, idiots, con-men and over-blown egotists are warned NOT to give them any or banking/credit card information.
Contact me for assistance and referral to a consumer law professional; tape their calls to use in court cases and for law enforcement.

- DaiseyThis company called of my elderly relative's house at about 8:30 pm. The man who called claimed to be a private investigator and said that my elder relative was involved in a civil suit. The elder who was speaking to him explained to him that she only spoke spanish. The "private investigator" then asked him to call the following day at 4:30 and that there would be someone who spoke spanish that could explain what was going on. Immediately after, my elder relative hung up he called me very concerned and nervous. I asked him for the number and called immediately. A woman answered the phone and seem to mumble the name of the company. So, I asked her very nicely, "what is the name of this company?" She ignored me and said, "who are you?" I answered by saying, "you just picked up the phone and said the name why can't you repeat it". Thats when she decided to hang up the phone. So, I called back. Of course whe aswered and I asked to speak to someone else. I began to tell her how rude she was for hanging up the phone. She then threatened to hang up again if I didn't calm down. And, she did. By this time, I realized this could not be a real business. I googled the number and here I am. I really hope these people get punished for what they are doing. Because of them, two elder individuals ronight think they are being sued.

- Playing at the game above their level216-393-0456 or 216-393-9240 in reference to account ARY2459. I think we all should call them and state that they are James A. Taylor, at least they'll stop calling me.
I've had numerous calls with these people over the last couple of days. Started as most of you stated, there is a litigation against me, it's punishable by up to a year in jail, Class E Felony. They even gave me a credit card # that was, get this, on the first call, issued in June of 2000 and paid through March of 2002, balance on the first call was 5534.14 and why didn't I take the offer when they first offered it to me. They had no intention of listening to what I had to say, always cutting me off with a threat of some sort. I've talked to three different people now, Rebecca Grant, Carmen Rodriguez, and well, another, but you know, you just get tired of asking. I also was unable to get a name of the company. Today when I called, the balance was now 6534.14 and with fees and other costs the balance was now 8112.36. They couldn't even get their story straight. I asked for a copy of the signed agreement and was told "Good luck with that" and then was hung up on. When I called back, and asked why he hung up, he tried to clean it up and say that he said, Sure thing, and good luck with that" but followed up with get a lawyer and hung up again. during another call back, I really tried to get them to tell me the name of the company. Nope, not giving it.
I was also told that payments had been made until March of 2002 and when asked for copies of all these payments I was told that they didn't have it, that they got a Signature match from the DMV. even quoted an article locate here:
http://www.nj.com/printer/printer.ssf?/base/b ... 5210.xml&coll=5
"But the state Supreme Court's Web site says there's only one Robert Goldstein licensed to practice law in Ohio -- and he says he has no affiliation with the debt collectors using his firm's name."
this ended up in getting hung up on.. I also pulled my credit, nothing there in regards to this bank, Providian National Bank. When I asked why nothing was on my credit regarding this account, I was told it was double joepardy. I can look at my credit report and there is every single late payment, every apartment, car, credit card, you name it, it was there. Don't by this.
I tried to call the BBB, but it's too late, so that will be the first thing I do tomorrow. Maybe I'll call them pretending to be someone I'm not representing me and see how long the calls keep coming.
I was given this address for Attn. Robert Goldstein.
716 Park Ridge Ave.
Independence, OH - 14624
I'll add this to the BBB report along with the other one that is listed there, but all of the phone #'s that I was given are in the BBB report. They just like everyone else, can't seem to locate these people.

- KatieJust received a phone call from this phone number regarding a Discover Card. The investigator gave me the number 216-393-9240. They said that we are being sued for an unpaid balance and will have to appear in court. They could not however provide me with a company name. We have never had a Discover Card and the time frame they have it listed as we were not even in the same state as the addresses they had. I simply told her to send us all the paperwork for our police file. She abruptly hung up.

- Angela| 1 reply2163939240 called my son's house-a "Curtis Jackson",a "investigator" saying in a garbled voice that I had 24 hours to get back to him or a warrant would be issued for my arrest for not paying off a 1995 car loan.He claimed that 4 collection agencies had tried to collect this debt(false) and now it is in the hands of attourney and I have 24 hours to pay the full settlement amount of $2,164.36 out of $4,468.18.There is nothing on my credit report. My son and I both felt it had to be a scam.My whole family thought I was going to prison for criminal theft charges.
- ec replies to AngelaRelax...no collection agency has the authority to have anyone arrested for anything. In fact, the only people risking arrest here are the criminals who called you. And for the collection agency to imply otherwise is in itself a violation of federal law.
These calls are from a criminal operation by the name of CMC Recovery that's based in Georgia. They also masquerade as working for the a law firm called "Robert Goldstein & Associates" and probably other aliases. As consumer law expert Bud Hibbs notes, there is no such attorney Robert Goldstein & Associates. These people are not only breaking federal debt collection laws, they're also committing numerous other felonies (impersonating law enforcement officials, fraud, impersonating an attorney, extortion, etc.) They are criminals and you should NEVER give them any information about yourself. Ignore their calls and report them to authorities. Here's Bud Hibbs' advice on dealing with the CMC/Robert Goldstein:
http://www.budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/cmc_recovery_bud.htm
Remember, the only difference between these CMC/Goldstein callers and thugs on the street is that they mug people over the phone.
I suggest you and everyone else who's received these calls contact your local police, your local FBI office, and that you file a complaint online with the Federal Communications Commission at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/complaints.html (The FCC enforces the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act.) Also, since this batch of calls originate in Ohio, so you should file a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General by calling 877-244-6446 or going online to http://www.ag.state.oh.us/citizen/consumer/complaints.asp
For those who file a complaint with the authorities, I suggest giving them the weblinks to the several message threads on 800notes.com that concern abuse in the 216 area code by this same group of criminals (CMC Recovery Services, Inc./a.k.a. Robert Goldstein & Associates). Here are weblinks:
