CallerID shows R.R.S, Inc. They are trying to collect on a debt from a doctor. I was seen by him SEVEN years ago, and it was paid under WORKMANS COMPENSATION. Additionally, I filed for bankruptcy in 2008.

I have told these people this, and they don't care. I have given them my WC attorney's number and my BK lawyer's numbers. They say that they don't respect either my WC or my BK, and they will call me and call me and call me until I pay.

I have spoken with both of my attorneys, and all they can tell me is to ignore the call. Any suggestions?

These people are now calling me 8-10 times a day. I have the number blocked, but on my phone it does ring ONCE to let you know you had a call.

My youngest son called them today and told them to leave me alone. We provided them the phone # and case # for my Bankruptcy and attorney, as well as my Workmans Comp attorney.  He asked for their address so that we can send a cease and desist letter. They reused.

The statute of limitations in Indiana for medical debt is 6 years, according to my attorney. The date of this appointment was November 10, 2006. My son told him that the statute had LONG  expired. They stated they didn't care. Threatened to contact my job, garnish my wages and place a lien on our home.

We, I don't work, I am in a wheelchair and my name is NOT on the title of our home.

What else can I/should I do?

If its a legitimate company, they should have no problem giving you a valid address and name that can be verified by googling it. Then, follow the steps in what you need to know and send them a cease & desist letter via certified us mail, and keep a copy for yourself and your attorney. Demand validation of debt.be sent via the us mail. The threats are already in violation of FDCPA laws.. Red flags to watch for, not giving you a legal business name and Street address, Demanding to be paid with a green dot card..

    A Collection Agent May Not…

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

    Misrepresent Him or Herself

A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

    Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

    Use Abusive or Threatening Language

A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

    Publish a Bad Debt List

Publishing the consumer’s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

    Contact By Embarrassing Media

A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector’s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

    Contact a Consumer at Work

A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

    Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.

Contact a Consumer Represented by an Attorney

A collection agent may not contact a consumer after it learns the consumer is represented by a lawyer.

Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request

If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.

    Communicate With Third Parties

A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer’s debts with third parties other than the consumer’s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

    Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

Calling me several times a month to collect a debt for storage of reproductive eggs.  Since I am a man I am sure this is not my debt.  The debtors name is Sarah Bowman and they then imply that she is a family member.  The number they are calling is in fact my personal cell phone and I have had the number for 9 years.  Their idea to remedy the situation was for me to change numbers rather than them removing the number from their automatic dialer.

A man from this number said his name was Chris at X106 called & left a message on my 86 year old mother's answering machine telling her she owed $126.51 for a visit to a nursing home. Before she could even call him back, he called her again. She asked him his company name, he refused to give it, She asked him which nursing home, he couldn't tell her. She asked him what the bill was specifically for & again, he couldn't tell her. But he kept saying in a very intimidating manner, I'm writing down here you are REFUSING to pay. My mom told him she had no problem with paying a bill IF she owed it but he couldn't tell her why she owed any money or who she owed it to. She was in a horrific car wreck two years ago & did spend some time in a nursing home but all her bills, as far as we know, have been paid & she has not received any bills in a very long time. I live in another state from my mom but she called me with his name & ph# & asked me to try & call him to see what it was about. I Googled the ph# & saw all these complaints. I then called & Chris himself answered the phone without my having to put in an extension#. I told him my name & that he had called my mother, gave her name, & wanted to know what this was all about. he said, "All I can tell you is that she owes money for a visit to a nursing home." I told him to contact my mom's attorney & gave him the name & ph#. I told him that as far as we know, she doesn't owe any money & why hadn't she received any bills if she owed someone? He said this was only turned into collection yesterday. I told him to NEVER call my mother again. He said, "EXCUSE ME?" I said, "You heard me. My mother is 86 years old, has a heart condition, & has other health concerns. IF she truly owes this money, her attorney will take care of it. Whether she does or not, she is on a limited income, she does not own any property & you are just spinning your wheels. NEVER call her again." If I was a betting woman, I would bet a lot of money that he will never contact my mom's attorney & that he will continue to harass her. He was slime personified.

If you have a problem with people calling then you may contact me directly at the same # Extension 100 or ask for me by name. While we strive hard to be perfect and respect our patients/customers there are times when a person doesn't conduct themselves appropriately and the situation must be addressed. It is my job to address those issues. I can't promise that I will agree that there is a problem but I will listen and make the appropriate adjustments to employees to prevent further issues. As Josh stated above, he had an issue and that employee was dealt with to prevent them from ever bothering someone through our company. Our job is to help you resolve an issue not to create a bigger one for you.

I've removed the phone number so that you are not contacted again. As for the rest of it most of it there seems to be some very specific things that were asked of him that, in fact, the client did not provide. IF you want to contact me again I would be happy to help but we have ceased outbound calls.

My business uses this company to pursue our delinquent accounts, and have been satisfied with their service. They have a better success rate than several other agencies we tried, and we have had several patients return for services even after paying this agency, indicating they were handled professionally.  I do deal directly with Tom if I have any questions or concerns, and he is quick to address them.  Nobody likes a collection agency calling them, and it is also risky for a business to submit an account for collection due to the possible backlash the submitting office could receive from the customer, so it is important that it be handled correctly.  I was referred to the agency by a colleague who has used their services for over 15 years, and has always been very happy with them.

Did you mean this company that is not registered as required by Indiana law to collect debts?
    Regional Recovery Services
    BBB gives them a A with 12 complaints:  http://www.bbb.org/northernindiana/business-r ... ammond-in-40141
Their Web site is really pathetic:  http://regionalrecoveryservice.com/Home.php
    “better. Stronger. Faster”?  seriously?
So the BBB says that they are supposed to be registered to collect debts and even gives a number.  It seems that they are not registered as required by law, because multiple searches come up as no record found.
I did find the corporate listing with a physical address since they only advertise a PO Box:
