- Sheryl Dsouza| 1 replyThese people call all of my phones (home, work, personal cell, work cell, family, friends even my ex husband). They use different numbers and different names. I do owe alot of money to some creditors but I am unable to change my financial circumstances and trying to find funds to file chapter 11 but meanwhile they won't stop with the harrassing calls that begin at 8am and go until 9pm 7 days a week. I wish they would not call my employer, family, friends or ex husband. I especially wish they wouldn't tell these other people who I owe, how much I owe or how far behind I am. There should be some kind a privacy laws being broken that would protect me but it doesn't seem to stop the calls. Ugh.

- RS| 3 repliesIt is United Recovery Systems, as many have indicated, but they are NOT a scam company, people just love to claim everything is a scam because they forgot to pay a bill or, in some cases, someone opened an account in their name fraudulently and it went to collections (that means there is a legitimate debt, its just not yours, but its not a SCAM!!!). Also, in this day and age, people change cell phone numbers all the time; its quite possible you have someone's old number and the collector has no clue of that, so maybe don't freak out and assume the world is out to hold you down.
Unfortunately, I do have 2 accounts in collections and they have sent me letters confirming this. They do collections for Citi Group (who run their own branded cards, store cards like Zales, Best Buy, etc. and much, much more) and I have confirmed that my accounts are with them. I don't like the calls anymore than anyone else, but its my own fault they are calling in the first place. Take some responsibility and either A. monitor your credit files for fraud (the collection agency will most likely show up right on there) or B. work with credit counseling to fix the situation if you owe companies money (like I am presently doing).- Caller: United Recovery Systems

- SamThis number belongs to United Recovery Systems, a collection agency. They called looking for a Samuel E. Jones (not me) who owes many debts in and around Austin, Texas. These collection agencies buy past due debts and then google the names or use other location services to try to find the person. With a common name that gives them a lot of addresses and phone numbers. They contact all of them and see who calls back. I have had about 20 such agencies contact me looking for Samuel E. Jones. When they ask my age and find out that I am about 30 years older than his 40 or so they tell me they will take my number off of their list. I then do not receive any more calls on this until the next collection agency buys the still outstanding debt and then it starts over again.

- LizSo far, I've gotten 4 calls from this company under 4 different numbers. Every time I get one, I block it - how many numbers do they have???
After the 3rd call, I got worried and checked our credit reports - both are absolutely clean - we have a mortgage - current - and a credit card - also current. All other account on our reports are closed. I'm guessing that someone with our fairly common name is in debt or somewhere along the line, someone gave out our phone number as theirs.
What pisses me off - the number they call is pay-as-you-go, so it costs me every time I have to delete their stupid voice mail messages. How long before they give up??- Caller: United Recovery

- Patriot327I know that I'm not in debt, so it may be someone I'm related to and they're calling me. It should be against the law to harass family. I've only received one call, from this number, and that was today, at 2:49. As others have reported, the CID was "Private Caller". However, another "company", which others have reported as debt collectors, has called me 25 times, since 12/2/14. That is what I describe as HARASSMENT! I never answer these calls, and I didn't answer this one.
- Lynn CReceived a call from this number at 6:43 pm. Did not leave message.
Received call at 8:43pm from 713-458-3418. He left message stating he was with United Recovery and this was a debt collection call. Wanted me to call back 1-800-347-5035.
Looks like they called at 6:43 pm from 281-901-6991
There is no reason they should be contacting me. Setting phone to reject calls from these numbers.- Caller: United Recovery

- attorneyonyourtailLet me start by informing the public to NEVER EVER provided your date of birth and social security number to anyone to "prove they are speaking with the right person". It's a tactic used to compile your profile for future fraud and identity theft. FIGHT BACK!! Ask THEM to provide YOU with the information to confirm they are speaking with the right person and see how fast they switch their tone. This one person named Michael Hall said "I'm not going to lose my job". "Well YOU have a problem because l'm not going to lose my IDENTITY", I said and he hung up!. BEWARE - They stand by their name .... UNITED IN RECOVERING YOUR IDENTITY...SYSTEMATICALLY.

- FrustratedThey call on our house line, then our business line, and then our cell phones. The caller has been told repeatedly they have the wrong number and DO NOT CALL AGAIN. We are told our number(s) will be removed, but still they persist.

- DeniseCalled my cell. I did not answer as I didn't know the number. Was concerned that it was my husband's family as Houston is where they live. Then saw this forum. I do not owe money, so I will not be answering calls from this number.

Others on this site have said this is one of the numbers used by a debt collection agency.

- calgirlJust received call on cell. Left no message. Love call blocking on my cell and my Pansonic at home. Bye bye harasser whoever you are...
- calgirl replies to RSWhen you have already settled a debt with a company, and they do not keep proper records, you're in for hell once they hand info over to collection agency. I know... These people are vicious. They do not care if the debt was properly paid or not. I am not about to contact these sharks.

- LisaReceived a call on Tuesday, 6/30 @ 11:47 a.m. When I answered they asked for my ex-husband. (Been divorced for 19 years.) I told the caller he had the wrong number. He actually had the nerve to ask me if my number was the ex's home number. What part of "wrong number" don't they understand?!?!

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
