Caller hangs up when I answer

Called, asked by my middle name I dont use and I said yes,  asked why they were calling and they wanted to verify my address told them to tell me what they though it was and they were even calling the wrong state,  then they tried to get my SSN and I said no way and informed them call was now  being recorded and they said they had wrong person and would take my name off.

They call a few times a month and on different number,   We will see if they remove it.   But that number will always go to a message that calling is being recorded for law enforcement..

It is a common misunderstanding that being on the Do Not Call list will stop you from ever receiving calls from an unknown or unwanted source. The Do Not Call Registry applies to telemarketing calls within the United States, but it is not foolproof or all encompassing.
- It does not stop collection calls. Debt collection has its own restrictions and guidelines, but it is wholly separate from and not bound by the Do Not Call Registry.
- It cannot stop calls which are made from overseas and rerouted through a U.S. number.
- It also does not stop most spammers who will go to great lengths to hide their trails: reroute calls, change their number periodically, etc.

Yes they are a debt collector I answered after 22 documented calls with no message !!! They were calling for someone I never heard of and said they are not allowed to leave messages , would not tell me there mailing address or anything since I wasn't the person they were calling , but they can call me three times a day and that's ok . It is cbe and the address is 1031 office park rd #6  west Des Moines Ia  50265

I'm constantly getting calls from a
(913)279-0837 every day several times a day for about a week an a half now but they never leave a msg. My caller id says it's from a CBE GROUP.  As a victim of  stalking I never answer my phone for # that I don't know I had to Google CBE GROUP to find out who and what they are. I don't owe money and if I did I surely haven't been made aware of it by mail or any other way so why am I getting calls from a debt collector on my brand new phone and # ? And why don't they leave a msg? After reading complaint's of other people who are harassed by this company and its employees I'm feeling a little anxiety over how to approach this matter. The #is deferent then the #posted here but it's the same company.

Reading the response from JP & Skip Tracer - both of you seem to live in a very limited world of focused purpose without reason or the ability to comprehend facts.

JP thinks that when a robot calls you constantly, and when you speak a live person gets on the line and the first thing said to you is " this call is being recorded "  my first reaction is to hang up - 1) I recommend that you NEVER speak once someone tells you the call is being recorded.  2)  Never verify your name, address, account number, social security, or even if you are or are not the person they are looking for - the caller can be anyone and just pretend to be a bill collector or an investigator - HANG UP IMMEDIATELY and block them.

Note: CHANGE THE  WAY YOU THINK FOR YOUR OWN PERSONAL SECURITY :    As a personal security measure I took after being the victim of an identity theft several years ago was to buy a Skype Subscription on my PC for $2.99 a month and a Skype Number for $30.00 per year that allows me to call any landline or mobile number in North America for no charge per minuted unlimited.    I now use that telephone number as my ONLY telephone number when registering my vehicles, visiting the doctor, making a purchase with my credit card, utility bills,  credit card company contact, and anyone else that asks for my number including relatives.   I am able to transfer that number to my mobile phone or to my home phone or answer it from my PC or Laptop.   The advantage of using this service allows me several options that are not available from my home phone ( i even changed that number and never give it our-emergency use only)   is that I can block with one click any incoming number and there is absolutely no limit to how many numbers I can block using Skype.    * You can also turn off your caller ID for outbound calls on Skype so no one can see what number you are calling from - or you can turn it on and even enter a different number to be seen on the caller ID - you are totally in control and all for less than $5.00 a month -

One thing that I noticed that when I get these same harassing calls from a robotic dialer, when you answer there is a moment of silence until a person picks up and am guessing that it's voice actuated.

I just wanted to share my experience with CBE and how I found out that they were calling me to find a dead relative.

 I stayed on the line and they asked for one of my relatives that had passed over 5 years ago, I told the person that they have the wrong number and that person was deceased. Well, they obviously didn't believe me because the calls kept coming for the next 3 weeks.  I finally called my service provider and changed my number and notified several friends and my parents of my new number and am in the process of slowly updating it as needed with others.

 I learned a valuable lesson from this and that is never put down a relative and their phone number when applying for credit or as a reference unless you ask their permission first. I decided that in the future I will use that same dead relative as a reference when asked ;)

866-910-3178 called 4 times yesterday.  I do not take calls from any caller I don't know or if it looks like a survey.  I have not called them to ask to be removed from the call list.  I have no current relationship with this company though I was a Verizon customer in the past and have paid all bills owed.  All the information I have about this company I got via the internet and I appreciate the information everyone here has posted.

Am receiving calls about an ex wife of 40 years who is deceased passed on Feb 1 2014 son was using information of mothers and trying to make purchases after her death

Ive never gave CBE my house number as a matter of fact we don't even have the phone hooked up to the modem. I don't even know our home number. And am getting tired of seeing them pop up on my tv

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Please do no call this number anymore. No message ever left. I called it and it said on a recording that it is the CBE Group.

They just called me trying to get me to verify my social security number. They wouldn't tell me anything but the name cbe and that they help different business but wouldn't tell me what they do for those businesses and said they couldn't tell me anything more until I verified my personal information. it's a scam DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION.

WolfmanJack, you rock! My guess is the reason they don't leave a message is to skirt that FDCPA letter requirement. I've seen collectors pull that stunt before.

It appears that CBE (a collection agency) is using this number.  I mostly ignore the calls because they never leave a message or give a name of whom they want to speak to.  If I answer, they hang up.  They have done this several times a day for several days.  I'm going to block their number so they can't keep calling.
