Called today. No message. ID says Atlanta GA

Do like I do. Don't answer the phone unless you know the number the person is calling from. I have caller ID come up on my computer so if I am at the computer and the phone rings the number shows up on the monitor. This way I do not even have to get up to answer the phone if I don't want to and no running to the phone to see the caller ID to see who is calling.

If your phone company does not provide a mechanism for you to block these calls then I suggest you do one of 2 things:

1. If you have broadband internet access then get ooma. Go to ooma.com. They allow call blocking.
2. There are some answering devices that will look at the caller id and either hang up on those calls or send them directly to voicemail.

Good luck folks and definitely, do not give these people any of your personal info and DO NOT give them your money!

These bozos are trying to collect on a $300 cell phone debt from 10 years ago, way beyond the statute of limitations.  I told them to check their laws and stop harassing me.

You have reactivated this debt. It will now legally appear on you credit report for seven years. Even if you pay the debt in a few months like you said you could, this will still appear on your credit.

You should have not said a word and hung up the phone.

After reading  all the bad stuff on here about this debt collector , i finally got fed up with the calling and answered.
It was for a bad debt of mine, i admit it, just cant pay until Febuary so had been avoiding them.
I was actually pleasantly surprised the young lady was very proffesional and non-confrontational.
Was able to set up a payment plan that wont suck me dry.
Sometimes its better just to bite the bullet, be nice and they might be nice back to you.

I wrote two letters, and since have not heard from them again.  Both letters were sent via email and snail mail, I have not rcvd any phone calls or other correspondence in regards to this debt.  

I am familiar with debt collection.  Once a company charges the debt itself off, they have written off that debt.  They may choose to then forward that debt to collection agency, for payment if they can get it.  That collection agency will get a 'bonus' if they do get a settlement of some kind.

The above number called me for some named Kay-Tee-ah Jale. hahahahahahah I am guessing someone with a debt used a fake phone number(which is MINE) to run and hide.

Can you can afford to pay your debts, because you work for Portfolio Collections??

They wont send any information in the mail about their company and the debt. I'm not paying anything until i get peoof int he mail.

It seems Portfolio bought many new numbers and did not put there name on them. ID says "Atlanta".

[***] call till 10;00pm and start at 9;00 am.  A 10 year debt they said.  I have cleaned my credit up paying off everyone.  My fico's in the 690's and 715.  I have just bought a brand new home with outstanding credit!  These pricks call and say I owe money.  To whom I owe I ask?  They hung up on me at that point!  What the [***]? Portfolio recovery......1st their # shows up with their name.  Now just a number with no name.  Different phone call locations too!  Debt collections or scamming?

Portfolio Recovery Associates, of Norfolk, VA is a purchaser/seller/collector/ of junk debts purchased in portfolios for pennies on the dollar. Upon purchase, these debts are inflated to where they attempt to collect on them from consumers at very high profit margins. They make thier money off of people not knowing the law because 99.99% of the time the debt is past its staute of limitations.

Make sure you check what those limits are as they vary state by state. Also note, if you pay them even a penny, that statute of limitation is null and void and the debt becomes good again!! hence DO NOT PAY THEM ONE RED CENT!!! I am in the process of finding out how I can stop them from calling, but at this time all I can say is that the debts they say you have have been written off already, if not paid off!!!

I got a call from this number and they did not leave a message. I am going save it in my phone with the name spam and not answer any more calls from this number.

Wow what a tool. Why don't you just come out and say you're an employee of PRA.

Don't give these bloodsuckers any of your money. You do not owe them ANYTHING regardless of what they tell you.

These people are easy to deal with. Just save their numbers into your phone as DO NOT ANSWER and set it to "no ring" for that number. They can call all they want, but it doesn't have to bother you. There is no use in even talking to them these people are so dumb.

Here's what I do.

Go the Federal Trade Commission complaint section:

Click on the small "Click here to file a complaint with the FTC."

Fill out the form.  Where it says Do you know who called you click yes and fill in all the information for the company listed there.

I made a document saved in M$ Word so I can cut and past all the information on the FTC site, because every time they call I file another compaint.
I keep a document with a record of every time they call, date, time, and phone number that called.
I paste this information on the written part of the FTC complaint form.
The more times you file a complaint with the FTC, is just another nail in Portfolio Recovery's coffin.
Sometimes justice takes a little effort.

Another thing you can do is go to your state's attorney general's website and file a complaint there.
