404-900-6940

Just received a call from this number. This is the first time I have seen this number come through. At first, my Caller ID showed that it was from REIS Law. Then, on my Call Blocker, it showed the 404-900-6940 number. But, when I look at my Recent Call List now, it says Unavailable and does not show a number. They did not leave  mesage for me, either, so I will keep a eye on this number. It looks like maybe the scammers might have a new number or, maybe, they are a different group of scammers. How lucky for me! Not! I am intrested to see future posts here to see how this develops with this number.

Same thing, no message. My guess is scammers aren't leaving messages so we won't know it's them calling and won't block their numbers. Still gonna block it. Anyone that calls me, either personal or any business would leave a message.

They are scamming!!  They finally left me msg and when I called back they basically told me I owe from a internet cash advance.  If I didn't pay $600 by 5pm, I would be taken to court and have to pay $3500

I called back too and they said the same thing. Also threatened me saying I would have to go to court......she was such a [***] on the phone I told her I'm gonna contact mu lawyer and she hung up on me

Received a call Tuesday and today from this number. Didn't answer it but they left me a message along the lines of saying they were with the FBI and that if I didn't respond, a case would be started against me.

I received a call from this number as well today. Prior to that I got a call earlier this week from another number, 770-490-9248, with the same message. My guess is either the first number got shut down or so many people blocked it that they started using a new one. I haven't been served any legal papers yet despite it being said that i had to do so that day or else. This is nothing but a scam! I'll admit the voicemails they leave are scary sounding and at first I was worried until I looked into it. Both of these numbers just popped up within the last few days, any legitimate business or investigation unit would have long standing numbers attached to them and would willing offer up the details of your case and their company as well as send you proof of this in mail. Furthermore in this country unpaid debt is a civil matter not a criminal one. It seems these people are mainly claiming to be collecting for unpaid payday loans, which in many states it is illegal for these loans to even be collected on. Even if you have taken one of these out and defaulted on it, please, please do not fall for this scam!! They do not have control of your defaulted loan! These people just got a bunch of numbers from who knows where and are calling them all, giving the same generic message, trying to find someone who will fall for their scam and give them money.

Oops I entered the wrong phone number above, the number that contacted me earlier this week was 770-400-9248 and there are several scam reports on that number as well, just like this one, that started about a week ago.

They told me the same thing just a few moments ago, I hung up. They verified my phone number , then I got smart !

Didn't understand what the crazy lady said her name was. She said they needed to schedule service with me and if I didn't contact them back today, I waive my right to an attorney. Really??? First of all, "service" is not scheduled. Second of all, I have no idea who this is and was not told what this is about. Last of all, was I somehow arrested via voicemail? Sounds like they were trying to sound official but butchered the Miranda Rights lol what a joke

I got a call on Wed the 29th and again yesterday the 30th. First time a guy name Steven James called and said he was with an investigation firm and had a claim against me and that it was important I call him back. I did not. The second time it was a very rude woman who said she was with the Department of Investigation Litigation and it was real important that I call her. She said if she did not hear from me then she would have to proceed with whatever. I called this number back and told them that I thought it was a scam and I have not heard from them anymore.

Got a call from 404-900-6940 today and they said they were from the Department of Investigation Litigation Unit.  They indicated that if I did not call them back today they said they would mark me down as waiving my right to council.  I wanted to call them and say send me a letter.  No phone calls in this manner are legal.  Is that the right thing to do?

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

Larry, any chance you have the name of the company that appeared on your bank statement for this $210 payment?  If you could find that and post it up here it would be very helpful to lower down who these crooks actually are.  Thanks

One important thing to remember if these losers have any of your personal information such as your social security number, date of birth or drivers license make sure you register with identity protection notify the credit agencies as well as your banks!!

Consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

I got a voicemail from  #404-900-6940 and a woman that I owed for a payday loan from 2012 and the statute of limitations runs out today ( I have taken one payday loan in my life in 2000).  That if I did not call back that I charges would be pressed against me and I would waive my right to counsel.  When I called back I spoke with "Brandy", she said that she was with P&M Associates.  She would not give me any specific information regarding the alleged debt and when I declined to give her my banking information she "wished me luck" and said I would be served with papers from the Prosecutor's office.

What a joke.  This needs to stop, these people are harassing and scaring people out of their minds.  There should be a law against this type of collection practice.  I have been in touch with a lawyer and there is nothing we can do except report the number to the FTC and our local attorney general.  Still, obviously, people have fallen for this scam/scare tactic.  Remember, you as the consumer have rights.  Tell them (if you decide to call them) that you are requesting, and by law you have the right to do so, a physical copy of the charges that have been filed against you, and that you know they are required to give this to you within five business days.
