That blocking feature is a feature of the phone. I have Samsung phones, This one is a Galaxy Note3,  and I can block as many numbers as I want via the phone. The carrier, mine is Verizon as well, has their own options and the 2 can be combined for extra security.

Received call yesterday and answered, but immediately hung up at the initial words of vacation package.  Received call again today.  Blocked number in phone, and also via Sprint website.  Also filed complaint with the FCC (http://www.fcc.gov/complaints)

Just received a call from this number on my cell.  Didn't answer it.  I have ATT service so I blocked the number.  I just discovered this feature on my iPhone and I don't know if there are limits as to how many numbers I can block or for how long.  I never call back a number I don't know.  If it's legit, they'll leave a message.

I also never answer calls from #'s I don't recognize.  Similar to the steps Cindy mentioned, I created one single contact called "Scammer".  When I come to this site & discover that a missed call in my log is a scammer,
I add that number to contact "Scammer", then (in iPhone 4 and above anyway), I scroll down and BLOCK that Contact (which blocks the entire list of numbers I've saved in "Scammer").
It doesn't stop the first call, but once I know  it's a scam, it blocks repeat calls
Many scammers, I've found, call repeatedly at the same time of day.... FOR WEEKS IN A ROW
This strategy stops the repeat calls
    PS: eek! Grrrr! @#$!?^*%$!!

Spam number.  My Verizon account - with a dumb phone, only allows me to block 10 numbers, unless I pay an additional fee for the privilege of eliminating the right of paying spammers to interrupt me at their convenience.

It seems to me, if I buy the phone, and pay for the service I should be able to decide who can call me.  But noooo.  Too much money to be made by the spammers.

So, I have for many years now, simply added these idiot numbers to my contact list, and assign “no ring tone” to the number.  I get a beep that I have missed a call, but that’s about it.

Called today at 3:30 EST.  Two rings and hung up.  I did not answer.  No voicemail left... as they probably hung up before even going to voicemail.

    Any replies to Mr. K
I agree because years ago I kept tracing hack attempts to verizon telephones and my ISP was concerned that verizon security had no interest in my proof(s).  They would call the house too and I traced them but the fuzz had no interest in the foreigners with multiple isp connections with multiple companies. Even Microsoft denied their hotmail accts were being used so I traced them And sent my proof to other than Microsoft and shortly thereafter they admitted hotmail was being used. It is not that Microsoft is dumb, just liars to protect their billions of $!  Further prove of liar were their advertisements using employees to promote their software. I traced much hacking activity to Florida and shut down a few their and elsewhere but we wouldn't b in this mess if the fuzz would put their donuts down
