- Loris| 29 repliesI was offered a 2008 Honda CRV for $1600. It was listed on craigslist so I emailed questions about the purchase of the vehicle and was told that she was selling it through eBay and about this amazing protection plan for the seller and the buyer where my money would be held for 5 days and I had the opportunity to test drive and inspect the vehicle before the seller would be paid. I started doing some research eBay does not have a protection Plan that holds money and tell a car has been inspected nor do they have holding facilities or storage units for vehicles. And the invoice sent to me from EBay was asking me to pay and gift cards from eBay. I tried to call the number at 1st there was no answer they called me back and I got a woman with a heavy Middle Eastern accent and she asked how she could help me. I told her that I had received an email from eBay regarding the car in question. She asked me for the ID number for confirmation , I told her before any confirmation was given I had a couple questions. I stated that I found it very interesting that when I looked up the number that I was being called back from that it was marked as a scam number and that I thought it was interesting as every transaction I had ever done with eBay was done through pay pal a direct wire transaction or bank to bank that it was quite interesting that she wanted me to pay with eBay gift cards. She said I don't understand your concern I said I believe this is a scam she made a grunting noise and hung up on me. The seller was listed as Laura Wilson

- B-Edwards replies to LorisThis is a new one to me - it takes off from the concerns people have about ebay and CL car sales. The scammer holds the money, and never lets go!
- Craig replies to Loris| 12 repliesI was just inquiring about a 2006 and got this response from Laura Wilson.
The 2006 Lexus RX330 Sport Utility is still available. It is in a good condition, no scratches, no damages, never been involved in any kind of accidents. It has a 3.3L 6 cylinder engine (great on gas), automatic transmission & only 77.555 miles. ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUES at all and I have the clean title in hand. I'm selling it at this final price $2,000 because my husband passed away 2 months ago (he had a heart attack) and brings me bad memories and that's the reason I want to sell it asap. I also got a new job, moved back to my hometown, and many other things have priority now, so, this car has to go. If you are interested in buying my car, feel free to email me.
I said I was interested and got instructions to purchase eBay gift cards. What a scam...

- JTRThank you for posting this. I went through the same process with the seller using the name Anne Sutton and the phone number of 281-972-7448. I became suspicious and asked for a better contact number and also asked why the vehicle was not listed on ebay. I didn't like the response so I shut down the communication.

Rebecca Warren - Glenn K| 1 replyI got the exact same e-mail (including UPPERCASE notations) that Craig posted to Loris on 23 July 2019, only it was for a 2003 Toyota 4Runner with 36,000 miles located in Billings, Montana for $1,500.00. The "seller" was Emma Megan of 1101 Nutter Blvd in Billings. The eBay phone number given is (408) 600-2704. When I called the number, I got a heavily accented Indian woman.
- Girl replies to Jane| 1 replyI too got the same message and the seller name was Anne Sutton, then days later the same person contacted me but with the name Sgt. Sylvia Schumacher....probably saw I am a veteran somehow and tried to play with me in a different way.
- JMI am a customer service of an online marketplace. I just had a call, his name is Danny and he almost got scammed. Good thing he called and researched the legit customer service. For all potential victims, don't fall for it. They usually say they are military personnel, someone going through a divorce or a family member died that's why they are selling their belongings (esp cars) for a very low price to start a new life. a piece of advice to not open any attached link from their email, do not give your personal info and never pay for the item using a gift card and never ever give your credit card info. Legit online sellers on legit online sites never ask for it through a personal email, transaction is done through the site.

this is a SCAM... then they attached this fake ebay document with your purchase ID info and how to pay them.
this is the original email:
The 2003 Chevrolet Silverado SS is still available. It is in a good condition, no scratches, no damages, never been involved in any kind of accidents. It has a 6.0L 8 cylinder engine (great on gas), automatic transmission & only 64,300 miles. ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUES at all and I have the clean title in hand. I'm selling it at this final price $1,600 because my husband passed away 2 months ago (he had a heart attack) and brings me bad memories and that's the reason I want to sell it asap. I also got a new job, moved back to my hometown, and many other things have priority now, so, this truck has to go. If you are interested in buying my truck, feel free to email me. - AnaJI found a honda crv 2007 with 87,250 miles for $1500. The seller posted and it was on next town. So i thought too good to be true but since it's near here i will check it out. So i texted the number on the Craigslist and an Emma emailed back and sad story hubby died of heart attack moved back to childhood town. Got a new job there and she was selling the car on ebay. So i knew right away it was a scam. Becareful. Be aware. Do not fall for it. There is another number and it's 339 666 5909

- Sebastian| 1 replyHi,
Never called the number but I searched it and found this wonderful thread about scam.
My story:
I found a very nice bike "Scott Spark 900" original price tag is $7k but selling it for $1k. For me it was suspicious, but at the same time was intrigued. Went along with setting up a purchase etc thru EBay safety payment etc etc......
Seller was Emma Brown, moved to Omaha Nebraska after her husband died 2 months ago in SF, CA......... You know the story.....
When receiving the purchase info etc and telling me that the only way to buy was with EBay gift cards and the calling a specific number to validate the purchase. Anyway I never buy anything online without PayPal. I find that as the safest way for all parties. - Blaine replies to Valerie| 2 repliesI was offered the same car
