- michigan| 1 replyI paid twice for a credit card debt 2011. I do not owe any money to any credit company nor will I apply for any credit card again. The Portfolio people they have that call your home hesitate to talk to you they have a shaky voice and will say your full name. They are mostly foreign people. I block them completely. Business like Frontier received full amount payment for cancellation of their services but had another company call me for the same payment of service. I am with a reputable company which is better quality.

- BigA replies to michigan"I paid twice for a credit card debt 2011." If that is the case then most likely you not only did not make the validate the debt, but you probably paid the wrong debt collectors. What they did was sell your name as an easy mark. Now, everything you need to know about Portfolio is on the first page. You should try reading it, and then read this:
You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation or cease and desist calling letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested). You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to. Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment. If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it. Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state: http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

- Angel2 replies to KenThis number called me as Portfolio Recovery....to date I have recorded 23 of their numbers that have been calling me for over 2 years. They have to be looking for some one as I have nothing in collections nor am I behind!! Sick to death of all these kinds of calls.
- bp replies to AngelI don't think it's necessarily legit even if they leave a message for you to call them back. Also, it might be against some state laws for them to leave a message. I know a state that past a law that telemarketers couldn't leave messages on an answering machine. I don't if it also applied to debt collectors. I don't even know if the state still has the law.
I do know that they often call the wrong number. We had someone call our house claiming to have legal papers for someone to sign. They were threatening to come to the person's place of work. The problem was, even if the call was legit, they had the wrong number. - PaulThis was a call for my son who does not live with me. As soon as I told the agent that, she hung up.

- LeeThese sleezeballs have been calling me for over 10 years. Earlier this month I received a summons from my JP Court to appear for a hearing. I had not received any paperwork from a process server or anyone connected with the LEO or Courts. I looked up the law firm on the summons. Turns out it is just as sleezball as Portfolio. Not naming any names, but this company began being sued by its own employees in 2013 for nonpayment of money owed. Company declared bankruptcy in 2015. JP told me all the numbers for the company had been disconnected. JP declared the suit Dismissed With Prejudice.

- Concerned replies to AvengerYep - this is definitely PORTFOLIO RECOVERY. I've come up with a great solution if you have AT&T Uverse. I've been using this solution for months and it works great. AT&T allows you to block calls - but only up to a precious 20 numbers. Instead of filling up your blocked call list with phone numbers from these guys, use the "Exclusive Call Forwarding" feature. This feature allows you to forward up to 20 numbers to one specific phone number. I added all the PORTFOLIO RECOVERY numbers I received to this feature instead using the limited slots of the call blocking feature. Then I have them all forwarded to 800-772-1413 which is the main PORTFOLIO RECOVERY phone number. That way, whenever they call, the call gets forwarded straight back to them. So far, I have accumulated 11 phone numbers for the last 3 or 4 months. And now I rarely get any additional numbers to add to the list. I have no idea of the legality of doing this. However, if the call is illegal to begin with, then forwarding it back to them seems to be the logical solution for the end-user. Sweet - and no call blocking slots used!! Here are the 11 PORTFOLIO RECOVERY numbers used to call me so far. Enjoy!!
