Same here. ID showed Pittsburgh

This number calls at least 4 times a day, I never answer.  Of, course I researched number and found out this a
scam or fraud....Be aware everyone.

This number (412 847-5582) is one of about 30 numbers that is used by Portfolio Recovery for outstanding debt.   Some of their numbers have the company names that show on caller id, some numbers do not and just show city and state (Pittsburgh PA).  This number only showed city and state, in an attempt to "fool" the caller to taking the call.   I screen all my calls since I work from home then if needed, call them back later to validate who they are.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

I do not answer unknown numbers.  Someone called today at 4:57 PM and when my answering machine picked it up they hug up.  The caller ID said Pittsburgh, PA up upon further investigation I found it’s just another number that belongs to Portfolio Recovery.

I looked up this Portfolio Recovery on the web and found it belongs to a debt collector - http://www.portfoliorecovery.com.  The website claims “Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC are here to help you pay your debt.  Call 800.772.1413 to speak with an Account Representative…”

Since I don’t have any current or past-due debts my guess is they are trying to SCAM money out of me.  My phone number is registered on the national Do Not Call List but since this is a debt collection company they are allowed to call you and reporting them has no result …”

Portfolio Recovery using low wage morons to harass people whether they owe monies or not.  DO NOT PAY ANYTHING to these [***] - DO NOT ANSWER - BLOCK calls.
Now that you are on their list they will call everyday using many fake numbers.

This company is notorious for calling the wrong people and they don't care if you tell them wrong number,  wrong person. Using outdated info to go after people has gotten them in trouble time & time again. You will have to send them a C&D via USPS snail mail, certified return receipt.Follow the steps in what you need to know below.

*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time,date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

sick of these people.  they are not even calling for us.  I sent a cease and desist certified letter 2 years ago.  I think its time to sue.
