Missed the call, don't answer unknown numbers. Googled the number *(my service is Alltel) and got this site. I did attempt to return the call and got a busy signal.

My boyfriend's kids' phone was beeping a few minutes ago. Guess 'they' called at 10:46 am, but I never heard the phone ring-it showed up as a missed call. I'd heard of cell phone scams so I googled it before I'd even think of returning it. When do these idiots learn? And this is a 402 (Neb) area code, on a phone that maybe 10-12 people have the # to. Guess I'll have to add it to the donotcall.gov site again, since I thought I did the day we got their phone in June last year. Also, on Alltel phones.

recieved a call today from them.  strange they had my cell number.  the organization is Kids First in New Mexico.  they want to sell you dvds.  their premise seems to be that traditional television is harmfull to children and they are the alternative.

This number is from Kids First in New Mexico.  My husband recieved a call and no one was there.  I received a call the next day.  A man wanted me to review 2 movies.  They would pay for the phone call and the movies if we didn't like them.  I don't like people calling my cell phone for solicitation.

I got a call from this # and didn't answer.  I called it right back and they said it was not a sales call and told me I could have 2 dvds for listening.  I told them not to call me again and hung up.  I don't understand how they got my cell phone #.

My cell phone is on the Do Not Call list, yet I still received a call at 7:20 PM PDT on July 17th, 2008, from something akin to "Kids First" (I couldn't hear it because I was in a noisy location and asked the gentleman to wait until I could move to a quiet place to hear what he had to say, but he barreled on into his spiel, not heeding my three requests).  I thought I heard him say they were associated with the NEA, some women's educational group and a few others, but I could not find this info on the Kids First dot org website (which may or may not be who called me and everyone else).

Like others, he offered me two free DVDs to evaluate, which were mine to keep and they would pay for my time and phone costs if I didn't like them.  I'm highly skeptical of cold calls, but when I'm in the mood (p1ss3d 0ff and looking to chew some @ss, which I was when he called), I like to play along for a bit to waste their time and amuse myself.

I listened to his entire spiel, then he wanted to know if this sounded good and if he could send me the two DVDs.  I asked what they wanted from me, and he said they just wanted evaluations, and again tried to obtain permission to send the two DVDs to me.  "So if I agree to accept these DVDs, I am under no obligation - other than to provide you (someone would call in a few weeks to follow-up) with my opinion of the movies."

He, using very nice words, but a rather nasty tone, thanked me and hung up.  When I can confirm the initiating agency (I've not read through all of the above entries as of yet, just a few), I will definitely be logging some complaints.

Greg in Sparks, Nevada replies to Oh, hi. Oh.
You'll also read that callees were hung up on or there was no one there; both of which are unacceptable, IMO.  In my case, I simply asked for confirmation that there was no obligation other than giving them my opinion when they called back in a week or so (which I would have been okay with, if the answer were yes, I was obligation-free), but the caller hung up on me after a politely-worded, but nastily-toned, "Thank you and goodbye."

Read even further and you'll find a few "they tried to sell me additional DVDs" when they were called back for opinions.  Sounds like a sales pitch to me, even if it is from an as-yet-unconfirmed non-profit.

I tried filing a complaint via the DoNotCall.gov site, but their webserver was experiencing some problems.  I'll try again tomorrow...

I called the number (I've never run out of minutes on my cell plan, and I amazingly had the time) and was on hold for the next operator for just a few minutes.  Then a recording told me that their hours were ?AM-8PM Mountain Time and to leave a message.  Since it was later than that, I'll try again tomorrow.  I'm curious about what they're doing, and it clearly doesn't seem above-board, but I do want to reach them one way or the other to discover exactly what's going on.  And maybe get some free drink coasters :-)

The organization being called on the behalf of is apparently Kids First dot org, which appears to be a non-profit; the calling organization may be a contract telemarketer.

Scam?  Yes and no.  Illegal?  Probably not.  Ethical?  I certainly don't think so, based upon my information to date.

Based upon those who have actually listened to their pitch and followed through on it, you will receive two 'free' DVD movies of uncertain production quality but with some definite moral (whose morals?) value in exchange for your opinion about them a few weeks later when someone calls you back for the interview.  So from this perspective, it's not a scam; you actually get what they promise.  HOWEVER, they also apparently pester you to purchase more DVDs from them - borderline, but not, IMO, a scam.  YET, if they're beyond pestering and into aggressively hawking their wares, which it appears some feel to be the case, then I would say it's a scam.

Is it illegal (i.e. in violation of the Do Not Call registry)?  No, because they're a non-profit, which are excluded (along with political parties and survey takers) from the DNC list's purview.  HOWEVER, since it appears to be a form of bait-and-switch (that's not the right term, but I cannot pull it out of my brain at the moment), I feel it crosses the line, ethically, if not legally.

If Kids First (and the related Coalition for Quality Children's Media, AKA CQCM) either continue to make these types of calls themselves or continue to use the telemarketing firm making these calls, I question their suitability to preach to America's children.

So I just got called from this company (YET AGAIN!) and I am so tired of getting calls from them that I decided to do a research of where (505) area code calls come from... hence I found this site.  So here's my story... I'll warn you... it's LONG!

My husband AND I actually SEPERATELY fell victim to their "just listen for a few minutes with no obligation bla bla bla..." and THEN actually let them send the DVD's!  I fell victim about a year ago or more because their schpeel actually sounded good and as a mother of 2 at the time who wanted to instill good values into her children, I would be open to cheap "family friendly" DVD's... mine weren't even FREE! (See what I knew!)... I think mine were like $12 for the two DVD's.  Anyways, in my case they sent me the two DVD's and didn't say anything about calling back to get my opinion.  They just wanted to introduce me to their program.  In my case there was no hounding... (not really), they sent me the DVD's like they said and then didn't call back for awhile.  I didn't get a "follow up call" until a couple of months ago when they called to tell me that because I was a good customer or something like that, that I had a credit of I can't remember how much and that I could get two more DVD's for like $6 total... they told me the titles and one of them was about listening to your parents or soemthing like that (the "values" are pretty generic, but when you have a three year old who doesn't listen very well, I'll try a $3 movie about listening to your parents...).  They really are very friendly when they call you (so far...).  Anyways... I fell victim YET again!  So to make our situation more interesting... that week my husband tells me about this call from a "kid company" that told him about some free DVD's with no obligation all he had to do was watch them and tell them his opinion.  My husband is USUALLY pretty suspicious about these kinds of things from prior experiences in college, so whenever he is suspicious about a company, he never gives them his real name... he has a "code" name that when we get mail/phone calls for this code name, we know to be more cautious.  ANYWAYS... I was like, oh... YOU TOO?!  The wierd thing was that he said HIS "kid movie company" was called Kids First something bla bla... and MY "kid movie company" was called "Feature Films For Families".  Hmmm... maybe they were seperate companies, but I was beginning to get more suspicious myself.  So fast forward a couple of weeks when I get MY movies and he also get's HIS... the titles were somewhat similar.  MY movies were called "GALLAVANTS" and "BELLEFLOWER BUNNIES something...".  the other two that I bought last year were called "TINY HEROS" and "BELLEFLOWER BUNNIES Vol. 1 - Room To Move and Carnival".  To tell you the truth, my daughter has never watched the "Tiny Hero's" or the "Room to Move" ones as she wouldn't sit long enough to finish one (and she is one of those kids who will sit and watch a full lengh kid movie if she likes it...).  We DID actually sit down as a family and watch the "Gallavant's" one and also the other "Belleflower" one... Let me tell you, if you are a "values" family, you DEFINITELY won't like "Gallavants"  As my husband and I were watching it with our three year old daughter, there were several things that raised our eyebrows (as a three year old, our daughter didn't have a clue, but we did...).  There was suggestive underage drinking going on where this evident "minor" ant wants to join this band that plays at the local, let's call it a "drinking facility" with bar stools and ants toasting each other with a beverage (but you can't be in this place if you don't have your rear end "bump" aka are underage....)  He can't play with the band yet though because he hasn't earned his "bump" (something that grows out the end of his... achem.. rear end I guess...).  Anyways, to make a long story short, he somehow gets something "bump looking" to stick to his dairy-aire that looks like the real "bump" and so he gets to join the band... so there's my point on the underage drinking.  The other thing that we raised an eyebrow at is that the master ant is consulting this flower to see where and what his little ants are doing.  Looks like a crystal ball to me.  But I'll let that one slide since the witch on Snow White has a magic mirror... ok... now I'm ranting...

Let's get back to the Movie Hounding...
So my husband's movies arrive and then the calls come and come and COME!  The first time they called and asked for my husband's "code" name... so I knew it was them.  They called at like 9:00 a.m., my husband was at work.  So I said he wasn't available and they said they would call back... (They weren't KIDDING!), they called back again that SAME day in the later afternoon, lucky for me I programmed their number into my phone (to screen it...) and I didn't answer the phone.  I told my husband that they had called twice and he said "well, we better watch the DVD's... and time got away and we didn't.  But the movie hounds procedded to call EVERY DAY at least TWICE a day!  I never answered it cause I knew it was them and my husband was never home when they called.  The did this for WEEKS!  Even on weekend's they would call on Saturday's sometimes!  I could NOT believe how persistant they were!  At this point we had not yet watched MY movies to see that we really didn't appreciate their movies let alone their NAGGING!  Wait... it get's better... THEY HAVE MORE THAN ONE PHONE NUMBER THAT THEY CALL FROM!!  I have three programmed so far... AND they GO BY MORE THAN ONE COMPANY NAME... I have heard that same guy's voice so many times now that when another "Family Friendly" movie company going by "Kid's First" called... I KNEW it was that guy!  RARGH!!

So I don't know what else to say to all of you also getting calls from these HOUNDS... and it is really annoying that we can't report them because they are "Non-Profit".. (balloney... they are making money)... but I really want these bozo's to stop calling us.  Any ideas?

Sorry about the novel about this, I had a little time so I decided to rant... =-)

The other numbers that I have for these guys are:
    (505) 247-0413 and (877) 837-8560

Good luck!  I advise... don't answer!
