- Mickey| 1 replyI got a call from this number and they tell me I owe money on a student loan that just went into default. I told them my loans were consolidated and if it were to go into default it would have back 10 years ago, as I haven't been in schools since late 90's.

- G replies to MickeyI am currently attending a university online and the lady just laughed because I asked who was calling and said it was a wrong number. She was really rude and just hung up. Last I remembered that I have to graduated first and then pay it back six months later. I have transferred to other schools but made sure the loan company knew I just transferred to a new school. I have no idea what they are trying to pull. They also wanted some personal information which I will not do,
- Trae| 1 replyI got a call(513-605-7537) from the the other day. They are a collection agency for student loans. I informed them that I would not conduct business over the telephone. I asked then to submit all documentation to me through certified mail and got some sad story about how an atty mush review all letters and that could delay the process. I told him that was fine as I was not in any hurry to pay the debt that I owe!!

- NdebtWell they called me and I owe money. They don't leave a message I don't return calls or answer unknown callers. I am not obligated to. But times are tough and if people are choosing between food, gas and paying some slave-driving, thieving corporate sleazzzzzzzzzeeeeeee... I think they'd choose the gas. I rather drive than use the last of my money to pay some debt I don't even know about. Yea sure and they called me 3 times today.
- JRThis company called me three times told them that I do not know the person they are asking for, are rude on the phone. Watch out for them and give no personal info even though they ask. Told them not to call anymore but stated that if I do not give my info they could not do that. refused to give my info and hung up. This company is scamming for personal info

- Anon| 1 replyReceived a call today. 4th one this month. Said they were calling on behalf of ITT Technical Institute. Pulled up the account by phone number, turns out they were right. The amount they claim is higher than it should be. Refused to listen to a dispute, said they had to have it in writing to investigate. And payment would still have to be made during that time. Threatened lawsuit if went more than 90 days without payment. These people are viscious.

- Not too old to rememberFrom "Matt" with "General Revenue Corporation" trying to locate a person with my maiden name who live in my childhood home and went to my university in order to collect an [alleged] "unpaid" student loan. Asked him to send me written documentation, which he agreed to do if I gave him my home address. This I did. Since then, NO DOCUMENTATION, just three threatening letters to collect a 20+ year debt that is many times higher than the amount I borrowed and which I ALREADY PAID BACK IN FULL years ago! The street address in the collection letters match the street address on GRC's website, but the phone number and PO Box where you are to send your check and/or credit card info DO NOT match the GRC website. I believe this is a SCAM!

They are owned by Sallie Mae:
"General Revenue Corporation (GRC) is the nation's largest university-focused collection agency, performing collections for nine guaranty agencies and more than 1,000 educational institutions. Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, GRC employs more than 1,200 employees and has offices in Indianapolis and Horseheads, N.Y. With a proven track record, sound financials and a passion for innovation, GRC has been providing premier collection services since 1981. Acquired by Sallie Mae in 2002, GRC is a part of the company's Asset Performance Group, one of the largest receivables management organizations serving clients throughout the Americas, Canada, Europe and Asia".
Sallie Mae also owns several other collection agencies:
Arrow Financial Services
GRP Financial Services
Pioneer Credit Recovery

Sallie Mae is having their share of legal problems:
On January 9, 2009, a Consolidated Amended Class Action Complaint was filed with the court.
On July 23, 2008, a memorandum and order was entered. The order stated that the actions are consolidated. In addition, the Westchester Capital is appointed as lead plaintiff and Abbey Spanier is approved as lead counsel. On July 29, 2008, a scheduling order No. 2 was entered in regards to the pretrial conference. However, a stipulation and pretrial order No. 2 amending pretrial order No. 1 was entered on September 16, 2008. Lastly, a scheduling order No. 3 was entered on September 30, 2008.
On March 31, 2008, several motions were filed by different groups and individuals to be appointed as lead plaintiffs, lead counsels as well as to consolidate cases. A response to the above mentioned motion was filed on April 17, 2008 by SLM Venture. Just as quickly, a memorandum of law in opposition of consolidating cases, to appoint lead plaintiffs and counsels was filed by Sheet Metal Workers Pension Fund Trust at the same time.
The complaint alleges that during the Class Period, defendants issued materially false and misleading statements regarding the Company’s business and financial results and, despite evidence that Sallie Mae’s loan loss provisions for its subprime borrowers attending non-traditional schools were inadequate both prior to and at the start of the Class Period, defendants failed to adequately reserve for losses in Sallie Mae’s non-traditional portfolio. As a result of defendants’ false statements, Sallie Mae’s stock traded at artificially inflated prices during the Class Period, reaching a Class Period high of $57.98 per share in July 2007.
On January 3, 2008, the Company disclosed in an SEC filing that it would be cutting back on its core business of lending to students by being “more selective” in making students loans due to turmoil in the credit markets and a new federal law that slashed subsidies to the private companies that make government-backed student loans. On this news, Salle Mae’s stock dropped $2.49 per share to close at $16.67 per share, a one-day decline of 15%.
According to the complaint, the true facts, which were known by the defendants but concealed from the investing public during the Class Period, were as follows: (a) the Company failed to engage in proper due diligence in originating student loans to subprime borrowers, particularly those attending non-traditional institutions; (b) the Company was not adequately reserving for uncollectible loans in its non-traditional portfolio in violation of generally accepted accounting principles, causing its financial results to be materially misstated; (c) the Company had far greater exposure to anticipated losses and defaults related to its non-traditional loan portfolio than it had previously disclosed; and (d) given the deterioration and the increased volatility in the subprime market and reductions in federal subsidies, the Company would be forced to tighten its lending standards on both its federal loans and private education loans which would have a direct material negative impact on its loan originations going forward.

- AnonymousJeff called me at WORK. He transferred into my extention from our switchboard. First question asked was to verify social. I told him I would not & asked for his company name. He said GRC. He would not tell me what the company did or why they were calling. Tried to also verify by DOB. I told him I would not. I asked him if he would like it if I notified my company's legal department that he was calling. He said that would be fine. He did give me a phone #. 888-710-6817 X4822
I called it and it did go to GRC. Woman there said they handled personal business matters. I told her I don't believe I had any affiliation with her group. She looked up my first & last name (I did not give any other info). She had 2 with my name, but they were not me...but she didn't offer to take me off any list or stop calling me. Funny thing was, she said she could not see in her call log that Jeff ever tried to call me...which is creepy. I'm guessing they just googled the name & wound up calling anyone that matched. If they keep calling my work, I will file a complaint with our legal department.

- smarter than you all| 2 repliesIf you owe a student loan debt, they will simply garnish your wages and take your taxes every year. The reason times are though are because people like you don't pay your bills...duh. Get a life and get a job so you can pay back the education you recieved. regardless of what you did with it.
- annoymoussmarter than you all, You're an idiot. Why don't you take your own advice and get a life yourself? If you read what people said and all, you wouldn't have to be so rude and tell people to pay their bills. Well maybe you should be the one to pay your bills and all? These people who are calling people are losers. Trying to scare off people so it's bets not to answer calls to numbers you don't recognize. That's what I do.
