- nibblesThey are engaging in this behavior because it is sanctioned by the Federal government. Yep--if you have (or have EVER had) a student loan, the Feds are more than happy to "feed" your name, SSN, and whatever else to them.
I am getting calls from them for a student loan that was paid IN FULL over 10 years ago. They have surfaced over and again since then--now again.
They think that leaving a message stating, "If you are not so-and-so, hang up now. By continuing to listen to this message, you acknowledge that you are so-and-so..." means that the number called belongs to a valid debtor.
I have answered several times. No one was on the line. Other times I have gotten that recording, hung up...and they continue to call.
I last went through this with them a year or two ago.
Certified letters did no good (signature was illegible on the receipt).
Proof that the loan was paid did not good.
Reporting the calls to my state's AG did no good, despite my providing documentation, logs of repeated calls, etc.
GRC just denied everything. AG's office went along with it. When I asked the AG's office what documentation GRC had provided, I was told, "We can't disclose that."- Caller: General Revenue Corporation

- nibbles replies to johnnieThey behave that way because the Federal government hires them, then permits them to behave that way. Any other agency hired by any private company that engaged in this nonsense (valid debt or no) would have long ago been sued out of business.
They have been sued; IIRC, there have been judgments awarded. Guess who paid!
(Hint: It was not GRC.) - AZ_Dryheat replies to tired-of-collectorsYeah, same happens here. They are idiots. They always say can you verify your date of birth. They are scammers for sure I bet.
- 1-513-469-1472This is the number that appears on caller id. They don't really identify themselves properly other than its a personal business matter. They have the name and date of birth incorrect.

- 513-605-7537| 1 replyThey have called me continuously for two months now. Problem is IM STILL IN COLLEGE! I have 6 months for when i graduate or drop out of school to pay the loans back. One problem: I dont think a student with a 3.8 GPA will be dropping out anytime soon. It is getting annoying

- KaylaIt started with letters for me. The letters said that the school I went to sent my bill into collections with them, which I did have a bill for the school. After about a year of not being able to pay it, I finally was in a position to pay it and told GRC that I would be able to pay it by the end of the month. I got a call TWO DAYS LATER about the same thing and I told the lady that I would appreciate some room to breathe. Her response: "I would appreciate it if you would pay your bills." I went off on her. I have been making payments directly to the school and I still get calls and letters from GRC even after I told them I would not be making payments to them.

- Lady DI got a call from this number with a message that said if I was a certain person to continue listening to the message if I was not this person to hang up. I hung up without listening to the message. So I do not know what they wanted but will keep my eye out for more calls from them and make a note of everyone.
I also got a call asking if I lived on a street I have never heard of. They said I was not the person and hung up. Not sure what that callw as all about either.
Hope they find someone else to harras and hope the Do Not Call List or the BBB can stop these people. - R GramsPhone number unrecognized and I will not answer. They do not leave a message on answering machine. Caller ID reads Cincinnati, OH. They are calling the wrong number as no debt is due from me.
- 11:40pm???They call me ALL the time on my cell. Never leave a message, when I pick up they ask for someone I have never heard of, ever, though they are collection a debt from my former college - which I do not owe, as all my bills have been paid in full over three years ago. They do not seem to believe that the person - man - they ask for is not available.
Even better, they call me all times of day and just received a call at 11:40pm EST. Who can call that late?? What the hell?- Call type: Debt collector
- ANOM| 2 repliesYOU PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS LIKE WHEN YOU HAVE A LOAN THAT GOES INTO COLLECTIONS. IT IS PURE HELL AND YOU WILL GET MANY CALLS UNTIL THE DEBT COLLECTOR FINDS YOU. I KNOW BECAUSE I AM A DEBT COLLECTOR AND WE WILL CALL WHO EVER WE NEED TO CALL TO GET TO THE PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR. ITS NOT AGAINST THE LAW BUT WE HAVE MANY RULES WE HAVE TO FOLLOW. WE CANT DISCLOSE ANY INFO UNLESS WE VERIFY RIGHT PARTY BY NAME, LAST 4 OF SSN #, OR DATE OF BIRTH. WHEN WE CALL AND YOU DONT VERIFY WE DONT GO ANY FURTHER. HOWEVER, WHEN WE CALL A RELATIVE, FRIEND, NEIGHBOR, ETC WE CANT TELL THEM WHAT WE ARE CALLING ABOUT WE CAN ONLY CALL AND ASK FOR LOCATION INFO, PHONE NUMBERS, AND PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT. MOST PEOPLE WONT GIVE THIS INFO OVER THE PHONE BECAUSE THEY THINK ITS A SCAM. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND PAY YOUR BILLS BECAUSE DEALING WITH COLLECTIONS IS NO FUN AT ALL.
- ughhhThey call randomly, never answer the phone or say who is calling. Per law collection agencies are required to identify themselves when making phone calls to attempt to collect on a debt, failure to do so is in violation of the law.
Anyone else who is getting these calls should remind these idiots of this. If they are reputable and legit they will work with you to get the calls to stop if it is indeed the wrong or outdated number.- Caller: unavailable

- Rodney Chatman: Don't be fulled please.| 3 repliesFrom reading the long list of complaints from the 513-605-7537 number, it appears that it is a person whom is claiming to be from the General Revenue Corporation. You can easily deny giving personal information for security purposes and request notification via certified mail. If this is not done by the person who called you and the from and the address they want you to mail information to does not match, it is a scam. General Revenue Corporation is a great collections agency that follows the books. This person who is constantly calling you all is possibly a former and upset employee seeking out some kind of vendetta against GRC's and Sallie Mae's clients and customers. Please don't think this is wrongful doing of thee "GRC" or "Sallie Mae". Hope this helps clarify things.

- Rodney again... replies to Rodney Chatman: Don't be fulled please.| 2 repliesAlso, if you let the caller go to your voice mail, they are suppose to leave a message stating whom they work for, who they are trying to contact, their name, and a contact number to reach them. They are not allowed (if it is the real collector) to state information regarding the purpose of the call in case it is the wrong number. What ANOM is stating is true in regards to the legal actions that a collector are able to do. As a future collector, I confirming his statement and also informing you all what a collector is suppose to do to help you all tell the difference between the real thing and a scam.

Phone Number Report: This company calls me constantly. They are looking for a relative of my landlord. I have no idea how they got my number. I have asked for them to repeatedly remove my number from their database as I am not the person they are looking for. They are rude and they get angry when myself or my boyfriend refuse to answer their questions. I called them back after my boyfriend got off the phone with one of their rude representatives today and the woman said she couldn't find my name in her database or the name of the person that her co-workers keep calling my house for. Liars!- Caller: Global Revenue or General Revenue

- CroxbyThese people called me way early in the morning wanting me to corroborate my SSN and my address. I politely declined and the man became rather hostile. I don't owe money to anybody, so I know this has to be a scam. You don't start off a phone call with asking for my SSN, that just isn't how things are done.
