This is Macys calling, not a scam. Usually calling about missed payments or if you ordered something it's their fraud protection.

Follow up from an earlier post to report that I have been able to resolve this.

The number is indeed Macy's debt collection. If you are getting calls from this number, there are a couple of possibilities:

    a)
If you have a card or account with Macy's or have shopped with them in the past, they may be contacting you legitimately. Contact them to find out what is going on, and check the FTC rules regarding debt collection.

    b)
However, if like me, you've never done any business with Macy's (or related companies) in the past, they may be contacting you in error. Possible reasons include:
    - previous owner of your phone number owes money to Macy's
    - someone with malicious intent to avoid paying Macy's provided them with a fake phone number (yours!)
    - clerical error, illegible handwriting on forms, etc.
    - someone has impersonated you, i.e. identity theft <-- you don't want to ignore this!
Call them back and clarify the situation, and request that they stop calling you. This worked for me -- I provided my first name and phone number only. No other personal information was needed. They have not called me since.
    Details below.

    -----

    My experience as follows:

I received three calls altogether on three consecutive weekdays:
    1-513-754-9822 called 12 Dec 2014 at 9:24am.
    1-513-573-8028 called 15 Dec 2014 at 10:43am.
    1-513-573-8028 called 16 Dec 2014 at 10:30am.
I did not answer any of them, and no message was left each time.

I called 1-513-573-8028 and reached Macy's. The call was taken by a rep named Sheila, who asked for my account number.

I politely but firmly clarified that I have no business with Macy's and have never purchased anything from them, and obviously have no account number with them. I requested to know why they were calling me, and who they were looking for.

I was asked for my phone number, which I provided. Note, there is no harm in giving your phone number to them because a) they need to look it up in their system in order to figure out why they are calling you, b) they're already calling you anyway, and c) they need to know what number to stop calling (since that is our goal).

The rep was able to find the corresponding account that was associated with my phone number. She asked for my name. I initially declined to identify myself -- for obvious privacy reasons -- and instead insisted to know who they were calling for. However, this is apparently not allowed on their script -- I presume they either need to protect their customers' privacy and/or avoid a situation where a debtor can simply deny their phone number. We reached a compromise, I provided my first name only, but not my last name, to protect my identity while giving the rep something to work with.

This allowed the rep to confirm that that my name did not match the one on the account that had my phone number on it.
I was also asked how long I had owned the phone number (almost a decade).

    Resolution:
    - I was told the name of the debtor whose account had my phone number on it. (Worth noting in case of possible identity theft!)
    - I was promised that the calls would cease within 24 hours.
    - the rep also affirmed that the call from 1-513-754-9822 was from them.

The rep was professional throughout the call.
They have not called me since -- it has been almost two weeks.

    -----

    Remember:
    - Whether you are picking up a call from them or calling them back, request that they identify themselves and state their purpose for calling you.
    - Affirm that you have no business with them and that they have called a wrong number. Unequivocally request that they stop calling you.
    - Do not disclose any personal information, especially social security number, etc.
    - Be firm, but polite. Remember, the rep is just trying to do their job.

I called the ACTUAL Macy's number. Just an FYI, they're HQ'd in NYC. I was told all these 513, 727, etc. numbers are scams. You know this due to the fact that ask for your name, phone number, address, and last four of your social. I block every number. I have asked numerous times to be removed from the call list, and the fact that I am NOT is, itself, a breach of law. I have threatened legal action, and if it doesn't stop, it will be taken.

Well I have a Macy's account and I know it's paid cause I've seen the payment post to my checking account whoever it was did not leave a message so if I'd missed a payment or something Macy's would have definitely left a message. Macy's may have been hacked like every other major retailer that doesn't want to pay for cyber security to protect our information. I say if that is the case we sue them. All the money they make they can afford cyber security but the CEOs at the top want all the profit for themselves and font want to out profit back into the company to protect their customers.

Complete scam. I have both accounts. Both are zero balances. I only use the cards for the holidays. They've called numerous times and never leave a message. This is a different number from the first harassing number they've called from. The other number is 513-573-8717

Calls from these numbers began here within days of purchasing from Macys online. I've used a Macy’s card account for years, instore only - only now with ONE single inline order this has this happened. Macys security is a disaster. My phone has not stopped ringing for days. I am going to have to close my account with them.  It’s just too disruptive.  (But with the unbelieve decline in Macys instore customer service they will be gone soon anyway and my cars will just be a collector’s item anyway. What a terrible operation Macys has become. Its a shame.

Had been getting Macy's related calls for weeks now. Blocked then and ignored them thinking it was some foreign scammer spoofing Macys collections. Today got a call from this number, looked it up and decided enough is enough.  Called them back- i calmly told them I had no account with Macys, never shopped at Macys, and gave them my phone number and first name only to verify this delinquent Macys account was not associated with me, nor my telephone number. The Rep kindly informed me that someone else named Jamie Sam listed my number under their account. The Rep then removed my number from the listing and stated I would no longer be recipient of their calls.
