I polielt answered the phone 3 times over the course of 2 months - told the people I would not answer any questions and asked to have my number removed. Person said that they could only do it after the third call. I figured I had it made. One week later calls started again and after several voice mails I picked up the next attempt and figured I was polite enough and it was my turn for fun.

(Please do not take offense at this, anyone)- but I made believe that I was just discharged from a mental hospital after 15 years. I answered the questions like a looney---they asked how many bathrooms and I told them I had two in my car- front seat and back seat. Questions went like that and they finally hung up. Hopefully forever.

Have been getting these calls for months, so I sent in the American Community Survey with only minimal information (very intrusive).  Calls stopped for about 2 weeks, then started again.  They also call from 333-333-3333, 580-540-6548, 405-563-0734.  One or the other calls every day.  I think I'll try a few of the tactics I've read above.  This is so bad, but if I report it to the FCC (which is run by the government) by a very liberal person who wants to do away with talk radio, unless it is a liberal talk radio.  I've never had anything like this happen to me.  Only since this new admin came into office.  I really have to wonder about their agenda for America and our freedoms given us by our founding fathers.

Well..........I got their "Family" survey in the mail last year.........TWICE.  I threw them away.  Too invasive.  Wayyyyy too invasive.  Their phone call followup program started last month.  I don't answer.  Looking for the 'in person' visits to commence soon.  That's when there's going to be trouble.  When they violate my 'no trespassing' signs and I call the sheriff's office to have them arrested, I'm going to press charges.  The Federal Government has my name, address, social security number and fingerprint record from working for the United States Postal Service and registering as a licensed concealed handgun permit holder.  Beyond that, I choose not to answer what hair shampoo I use or if I squeeze the Charmin or not.  It's my right not to answer to folks I feel are up to no good regardless of if they work as a shadow Census Bureau agency or not.  Fugg'em and feed 'em fish heads!  Listen up jarheads.  I JUST SAID "NO".  GOT IT?  GOOD.

Got called from 520-798-4152 back in early july of 2009.  At first thought the call might be legit because I had received post cards in the mail announcing census survey papers would be arriving.  Didn't mind confirming information they already had and the innocuous questions until the person asked for my social security number.  I refused.  That stopped me cold.  I told the caller I was done with them.  I don't think the REAL Census Bureau needs THAT kind or personal information.

When I did a reverse number check it appeared as though the call had come from an Arizona based Census office, but why would their Arizona office be calling a great lakes state?  I have since been told by a local police detective that scammers can electronically make it appear on caller I.D. that another number is the callers, including government agencies and legitimate businesses.  It's called 'Spoofing' a number he told me.

The information the REAL census takers collect is kept confidential, and is a legitimate tool of our governments to best know who in our country needs what services, but calls from this number seem to be very suspicious.

Got a call from the Maryland (240-776-3120) office yesterday (1/22/10) at 9:15PM.  Didn't answer.  Got a call today @ 3:45 from this number.  Arizona appeared on the phone.   Answered.  Took a short survey.  Asked about different types of products and where they were purchased.  Nothing personal at all.  Said it was voluntary so I don't know where some of the posts are presenting info on being threatened.   I looked up the number and it is legit.  If info asked for was personal, I would have stopped the survey and hung up.  Said that I would receive three more calls over the next few months.  Let you know what type of info asked for and any other details.

I am located in Texas and received repeated phone calls from this number also. I called the Regional Census Bureau in Dallas, Texas. After a bit of a run-around I was connected to the data department. This number is NOT a number associated with the Census Bureau in the Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas region which is covered by the offices in Dallas.

The 520-798-4152 number does NOT appear to be a legitimate number from the Census Bureau.

The US government would never do business by phone calls...especially asking questions like this. Report these calls to your local FBI office.

This is a legitimate number from the U.S. Census Bureau. It's in everyone's best interest to answer their surveys, and they're usually short.

    stop all phone surveys now
Why is it in anybody's "best interest" to answer these invasive surveys? Why do we have to put up with the goddam government invading our privacy and asking questions that are none of their damn business?

The only "legitimate" reason for the existence of the census bureau is to figure out how to allocate "representatives" in congress geographically, and they can only do that once every 10 years.  Never mind that the clowns in congress don't represent real people.

What happens if you don't answer Big Brother?  Do you go to Security Prison?

    Stop all phone surveys NOW!

I was a worker for the 2010 Census, and my parents recently received a call from this number.  This is NOT a US Census operation.  ALL legitimate census operations take place on a very local basis, so your census worker will live within a few blocks of your house.  Census workers are prohibited by law from working outside of their immediate neighborhoods.  Therefore, unless you live in Tucson, there is NO WAY you can get genuine census calls from there.  Furthermore, the 2010 Census is not a phone-based operation.  There are very strict regulations governing collection of information by census workers:  three personal visits, with notices left at the residence each time, are required before the enumerator is allowed to look for a neighbor or other proxy.  You can call the local office to respond to a Notice of Visit, but no one from out of state should ever call you.  PLEASE call your local or regional census office and report these crooks!

Glad I looked this up. I got a message today and I could not understand the woman at all. She may or may not have said her name and where she was calling form. She did, however, speak the phone number and case # clearly. I did complete my census form and got a letter stating a census worker would be coming to my home to ask further questions. I will not be calling them back. I tried to find this number through telephone search engines and  the company is not available. Makes me glad I didn't answer the call.

I got a call from this number just a few minutes ago. Funny how I could not understand the woman's name or the name of the business she was calling from, but she made damn sure she said the phone number and case number clearly. This alone makes me suspicious. I have worked for many different companies and I always make sure that my name, company I represent, and phone number are said clearly and slowly. I also leave a reason for the call. I filled out my census paperwork and received a return letter that later a census worker would be coming to my home to ask more questions as I had been "selected" to provide further info. Maybe they will find me home, maybe they won't. I answered the mandatory questions and I feel I did my part. I served in the military and I appreciate my rights. I am not afraid of governmental interference, I just prefer to be left alone.
In my opinion, this is not legitimate as the census is NEVER conducted over the phone. We are never supposed to give out our personal information over the phone unless we can verify the person we are speaking with represents a company with a legitimate need for this information, and generally if that is the case we are calling them with the questions!
Why are they calling cell phones instead of home phones??? Maybe they hope to catch you when you are busy and distracted in the hopes that you give them all your personal information without thinking twice. Believe me, the government already has your info. So does the grocery store if you use their "reward" card, savings card, or a baby club card. I don't see why the government would be concerned with the type of deodorant I use, the number of times I wipe after a bowel movement, or if I use tampons or pads.

Census Enumerator here, amending comments from "gab" on the 14th. What gab describes is mostly true for the decennial operation only. That's the one running this spring and summer with the ten easy questions. The Bureau also conducts other surveys, including the famously detailed American Community Survey, which involves weeks of visits AND phone calls.

Gab, this was almost certainly mentioned during your training. You may want to chat with someone in your LCO or the Bureau's NPC before you make any more misleading public statements.

I keep getting calls from the US Census, however; the paperwork I sent in stated they would only call if there was information that was not clear, these guys say they just want to do a follow up interview!!!!! oh hell no.  Don't ever put your number on a census form, they are selling the telephone numbers, yep our government is not honoring their stated purpose in order to gain access into our lives and won't stop calling.

Totally legit, I called them back and got directed to an operator. I had some missing fields on my Community Survey that came shortly after the US Census. I remember specifically not answering some of these questions because I did not know (form wasn't entirely explanatory).

They are just trying to gather the rest of the information they don't have. Not a big deal I don't think. They never asked for my ss number (probably because I filled it out already).
