Received a call from 520-798-4152.  They said it was the US Census Bureau.  They tried to verify my address.  I didn't give them any information but just asked where they were calling from.  I said it was an incorrect address since we had moved, they quickly said thank you and hung up.  I called the 800 number on the web for the Tucson, AZ Census Bureau (800-642-0469) and they verified that this was a legitimate Census Bureau call.  Geez - the thieves have made all of us so suspicious - including me - that we're not even willing to take legitimate phone calls...

I have gotten call after call from the Census Bureau, this number and others.  I answered the very first, which came on my cell phone.  I DID NOT PROVIDE MY CELL PHONE NUMBER WHEN I FILLED OUT THE CENSUS QUESTIONNAIRE IN 2010.  I am located in Alabama (205) area code and he gave me an address in Spokane, Washington.  Told him it wasn't my address, but when he asked for my address, told him no.  He wanted to give me a number to call them, but I was driving at the time.  A lot of these posts show this experience - they have a number but wrong address.  That leads me to wonder what's going on.  And again, the number they called me on was my cell phone, which I never give out except to family, friends, etc.  I have now received 4 calls from the Census Bureau, all four from different numbers.  I blocked the first two, but I cannot get away from them.  Maybe when they call next time, I'll take the call, lie to them, and get on with my life!!!  If they want true information, they need to be up front about what's going on . . . calling on a number they weren't provided AND having the wrong address . . . that doesn't make for getting off on the right foot, legitimate survey or not!

This number keeps calling as well as the 812-2118-3144 and240-420-6029. I want them to quit calling as we did the newer census survey conducted (the one which was mailed to home and we mailed it back). The caller first stated name then asked if  I was the person at the home and the correct number and if the address was what he was reading. I felt it was not wise to go further and I mentioned to the caller that we had already sent it a survey that was conducted last year. The caller stated that this was a different census that was being taken and also said that a 28 page packet was mail twice to this address and was not returned. I mentioned that we did not receive such a packet one or two times and to please mail another and we would return it.  The caller stated that this could not be done due to the cost of mailings and that the survey had done.  I said I didn't not want to do this over the phone and hung up.  Why are surveys(such as the phone survey)  done in the first place because it seems they already know who and where we are, and what we are doing,  Another question is when clicking on the "Block this number from your phone" appears, why does a block asking for your CELL NUMBER instead of home phone appear, this automatically stops me from going any further, as then not only do unwanted callers have your home phone, now they have cell.

I sent their invasive form to my congressman, and told him to get the funding for this invasive form stopped. It is an attempt at total Id theft. Who is to say whether or not the few people on here that seem to support this are not part of the scam. The Census people have no business asking specific info on how much money I made or when I leave the house. I have had a heart attack already and if I have another I will sue them for all the stress they are causing with their calls.

Got this call a few days ago. Asked why I should believe she was from the Census Bureau. She said she would give me a toll free number to call. I said, "Nah, just call me back and I'll say Im the Census Bureau and you can pretend to be me. Then you will have to fill me in on the scam so that I will know how to fool you into giving me your address, ss#, credit cards."

Read all of your posts tonight, but still had the form at home.  Between the Census Bureau 800 number, the form received in the mail, and reading all the on-line information and explanations, I agree that this is the Census Bureau.  You are required by law to fill out the form or answer the questions over the phone.  After so many tries, they will show up at your home and ask to do this in person.  Go to the Census Bureau web page at www.census.gov and read about the American Community Survey.  This is where we get our federal tax dollars...............The form number for the guide to this survey is ACS-30(2011).  This is legitimate.

I received a call from 520-798-4152 with "Tuson AZ" showing on caller ID. The caller left no message.

While researching calls I was getting from another number (812-218-4166) I sent an email to the U.S. Census National Processing Center ("NPC.Call.Center.Info@census.gov") I received an answer the next day confirming that 520-798-4152 is indeed a valid U.S. Census Bureau telephone number used by the Tucson, AZ Regional Office.

I also learned that the U.S. Census Bureau conducts many other survey efforts besides the once per decade census. As already mentioned, you can go to " http://www.census.gov/npc/contactus.html " For instructions on how to verify a caller is actually from the U.S. Census Bureau. You can call one of three toll free numbers or communicate by email.

According to the information I received, U.S. Census Bureau callers can call from 9 AM - 9 PM on weekdays, 9 AM - 5 PM Saturdays, and 11 AM - 9 PM Sundays. You might receive 2 - 3 calls per day until they reach someone. The interviewer will ask to speak to an adult and will verify the phone number, address, and person's name before they will discuss the nature of the survey. Some of the surveys are mandatory, some are optional.

I received a call from 520-798-4152 this evening.  I didn't recognize the number, so I didn't answer it.  A man left a message that it was the Census Bureau & left an 888 number to call back & a case number.  I did *try* to call the 888 number, waited on hold for over 22 minutes, got tired of waiting so I hung up.

Just because this number is one of the Census numbers doesn't mean that's where the call originated.

    Hello Folks,

It might interest you to know that I used to work at this particular office of the census bureau.  This is a legitimate number and can be verified by calling the 888 #.

Like it has already been mentioned, the census conducts many different surveys other than the decennial census.  Some are voluntary and some are mandatory.  The best thing to do is ask this up front.  Also, for every survey they MUST verify the address and or phone number to proceed, and there is always a chance that they have gotten it wrong. So before you break into a sweat about completion of the survey, see if they are really looking for you or not.

Also, many of them take a total of 5 mins to complete.  Not only does completing the survey ensure accurate apportionment of tax dollars, it also really helps out the nice people who work there are just trying to do their job and make a living like the rest of us.

Avoid scams, always ask for methods of verification.  Every form the U.S. government sends out must have a verifiable OMB number and a published telephone number.  Almost all surveys can be done anonymously, so if you don't feel comfortable giving your name, just ask.

    Hope this helps!

No, do not verify or give out any info until you have checked out the caller per instructions on this census.gov page http://www.census.gov/survey_participants/hou ... phone_call.html
Beware phone numbers can be spoofed or faked.
I know of no gov survey that is mandatory. If you don't feel comfortable, tell them to go to hell and hang up.

I completed the 28-page survey and they confirmed they received it, so why would they need to call? To get my SSN or credit card number?  They are not handling this well.  Until they do this right, people are going to assume it's caller ID spoofing.  If they want to contact me on how to set this up correctly, they are free to do so.

I called the US Census Bureau (the real phone number on the site) and they confirmed that my case number was real and that they wanted my correct address. The one they had on file was incorrect. I can only assume that in the previous census my phone number belonged to someone that lived at that address. My advice is ignore the first call and just call the Census Bureau directly to figure out what's going on. Use your case number if they leave it in a voicemail.

People call your congressman or or representatives give it to him the minute it comes in. Now all correspondence from the Census Bureau will go through him first. Tell him about the personal question that they want and  we demand as taxpayer to stop this nonsense. If people don't mind giving all there personal information then give it too them. We should have the RIGHT  to decline as free Americans to such nonsense. Yes 1994 is here and growing. Yes 520-798-4152 is the number they use or where they hide in there bunker.
