Got a call haven't even had the # a full 24 hours yet. Left no message. Caller id read VAF,

I let it ring..knew it was bogus

I was not at home and this number called and did not leave a message.

I just wish these people would take a long walk off of a short pier and disappear.  They are beginning to be a nuisance.

This annoying number has called my house every day for the last three days at different times of the day.  If you try to pick it up there is never anyone there.

I too just called the number back and entered my number to remove it so hopefully they go away.

I keep getting calls from this number too now. Sometimes twice a day. My number is unlisted, so how does this happen. I want to know what company this is.

My son says they are calling our unpublished phone number daily and they say they are the Press Democrat, which is a local paper in Norther California (Sonoma County).  My son has told them again and again to stop calling but they still do.  I also registered my number at DO NOT  CALL ,. but it is not stopping them.

I live in Los Angeles. I've got a message today. They need some verification and they will call me back.

Received the same call multiple times; our number is also private in every way possible, we actually pay our provider extra for that... also we are on the DNC registry. Recommendations are if you have your number on the DNC registry, go to their website and file a complaint, and do so every time they call if one needs to do so; if registered you're not supposed to get the unsolicited calls after 3 days (supposedly), if they continue to call, continue to file complaints on the DNC Registry website.... also, if your phone provider offers the service, check into blocking the number from calling you... it's called "per call blocking". We have Time Warner and they call it "selective call blocking", once blocked they hear the message that says, "the called party is not accepting calls from this phone number"... it has brought us peaceful nights once again after getting 2-4 calls daily from this "VAF".

...is a joke. It doesnt do jack crap. You can complain till you're blue in the face and nothing will ever be done, you're better off just blocking the number. Its 30 days, btw. Not sure if your "3 days" was a typo or not, but its 30.

Call came into home phone message left on recorders said "this is a service verification.  We will call you back"  Caller ID showed phone number and VAF

The company is VERIFAST.  Apparently it is used by news paper companies to solicit customers.  I have seen other posts on this site that talk about this company calling from other numbers with great persistance...

It's pretty simple how they got your number.  They are given an area to call, and then a chunk of sequential numbers to call.  If that person is given the number 555-0000 thru 555-0100 and your number falls between that, then you get that Customer Service person calling you.

They called my unpublished home number too.  So who's selling the information to them? The phone company?  Irritating.  I've had this number for 3 days and they call twice a day.

Robo-dialers dial numbers randomly. They aren't getting numbers off anybody's list. If this is a new number to you, it could be that someone who had it previously responded to a call, and they noted that it was a good number.

If you answer these calls, it just tells them that it's a valid number and they'll sell _their_ list to someone else.

If they are using a robo-dialer, that randomly generates numbers, having the number unpublished won't help. If you answer ... or your answering machine answers ... it gets tagged as a valid number, and it gets put on a list, which they then sell to others.
