- MelissaDid not leave a message and I am writing a letter with a return receipt to stop calling my phone and to only contact me by mail. :) Thanks for the 411.
- StephJust got a call - no idea what they are calling about and frankly, I don't care! :)
- tired of the crapI don't know who this is nor do I give a crap. Any phone call received by my phone after 9pm is NOT answered unless I know who it is. If this is a collection agency, let me explain the facts. YOU DO NOT CALL AFTER 9pm...If you call my number again, I will make your life very difficult. If you think I owe you money, then send me a letter. Phone calls will get you NO WHERE. To make matters worse, this is probably a collection agency looking for money that my dead mother owed them. Calling me won't get you any money, she didn't leave me any.
- EllenThey r calling about a debit over 6 yrs old. The statues of limitations in Iowa is 6 yrs. They will get nothing from me.
- SkeetsI just got a call from 620-860-2755 he wanted somebody named Mike Brink,, sounds like kids

- Mike replies to GoodLuckWithThatHow do u do that
- Victoria replies to JGE| 1 replyThe thing to do is fax them a cease and desist letter. Be sure to also send a copy of the letter via certified mail. Send a copy of the letter to the Federal Communications Commission and the Attorney General's Office from the state the debt collector is calling from. Make sure all letters are sent via certified mail. The more information we can provide the FCC and Attorney General's office, the more we can help shut down these companies. If they leave voicemails, transfer them onto a cassette or CD, whichever you have access to. Write down, word per word, time and day of call. Enclose the CD and letter with the cease and desist letter to the FCC and Attorney General's Office. Do Not Send a Copy of the voicemail recordings or copy of the voicemail transcript to the Debt collection agency. The collection agency should only receive from you, the cease and desist letter.

Attorney General's Office - MIke replies to Sick of the calls| 1 replyThey aren't really calling from every state. They are using a PBX that generates phone numbers. If you keep checking the numbers they call from like I have, you'll come across posts here that will have a big list of numbers they call from you can add into your phone to block. They change every so often

- HickReceived a call from 620-860-2755, I just told them they had the wrong number. I called the number back (620-860-2755) it said it was Portfolio Recovery and that it was a debt collection agency. Always best to just hang up on them, they have the worst collection habits, and should be reported to the Attorney General of the state they are collecting in, that is usually the only way to stop them.

- JohnA woman who didn't id herself or company called looking for someone with same first name, but when I politely explained that this was my new cellphone and I don't know the person she named, she began repeating "So this is his contact number and you have the same first name, but aren't him?" in a very accusatory tone. Go figure! What are the odds of two people firstname "John". It was very noisy on her end, and when I commented she insisted it was quiet there. I told her several times not to call this number, but when I began demanding to know who she was and whom she worked for she hung up. Filed a complaint at DoNotCall.gov, and look forward to suing them if they keep this garbage up. Lots of unemployed lawyers in need of a hand. :-)

- Sue replies to Ann DroydAnn this number shows up on my cell phone and i am glad to find this web site. I get tired telling them that they have the wrong person and number because they are looking for the previous owner of the number they call who i happen to know.

HERE'S THEIR INFO:
Portfolio Recovery Associates
Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC (PRA)
140 Corporate Boulevard
Norfolk, VA 23502
It’s the stuff of great movies. Suspected corruption. Rumors of scandal and fraud. Corporate greed run amuck. In fact, I’d bet someone like Oliver Stone would have a field day with the story behind Portfolio Recover Associates (PRA) .
Gordon Gecko in “Wall Street” ain’t got a thing on these people. PRA operates on one premise and one premise only: Finding the most efficient way of separating you from your money. In the collection business, PRA is a monster. They buy off and collect on what many folks consider the worst trash in the industry.
Far more often than not, they cannot validate the claims they make and/ or the accounts on which they are attempting to collect. And, that's just the beginning. There's the phony 1099-Cs mess; issues with the age of the debts in question; the dubious sources of those debts, and the way they inaccurately (?) put cooked-up (?) information into your credit files.
For those reasons and many more, PRA holds an extra-special place in illegal debt-collection purgatory. And, if our government ever needed a reason for why the debt-collection industry should be subject to federal law, many would argue PRA would be right at the top.

- NightshadowI have had a dealing with these scam artist two years ago concerning a "bounced check" that was written 12 years prior to them contacting me. So that now makes it 14 years ago. Anyway they said I had written a check to Firestone for just over $218.27 and with all the bounced check fees, late fees, and interest I owed them somewhere around $851.64 and if I didn't pay they were going to have me arrested.
I asked them a few simple questions that you can see below:
Me: What is the case or reference number?
James: XXXXXXXXXXX
What state was the check written in?
James: (fumbled around then said) New Mexico
Me: That is odd I have never been to New Mexico
James: It’s your check and we are going to press charges against you and have you arrested if it’s not paid in the next 15 days.
Me: I said well I will tell you what I will pay it if you can provide me proof that I am the one who wrote the check. So send me a copy of the check and if it came from me then I will pay it.
James: I can't do that. We don't have the check Firestone does all we have is a slip of paper saying that you wrote the check.
Me: So you can’t provide me with any proof?
James: No
Me: So you expect me to pay a debt that you claim I owe without any proof.
James: You will either pay it or go to jail!
Me: Your company will hear from my attorney
James: Click (hung up the phone)
I then sent them did a little research concerning the statute of limitations and come to find out New Mexico statute of limitations is 6 years not 12 so even if I had been to New Mexico and written Firestone (who I have never used) a check the statute of limitations had already expired. So I sent them a nice little letter back informing them of the law and that if they ever tried to do this again to me I would see them in court. That was the last I heard from them till today when they called twice looking for my ex-wife of 10 years. Too bad I don’t have her number I would gladly send them her way… LOl
Anyway watch your back get as much information as you can from them, do your homework, and use what they give you against them to stop them.- Caller: portfolio recovery associates

- Shana replies to jessCan you please explain again? This number has been calling me...and ugh...can't figure out why. So, when they call again I ask for a written verification of the debt to be mailed to me? What do you mean "written agreement with your signature"? Want to get them to stop calling me. Your saying they won't really have anything to mail me, so I send them a letter with receipt verification to only contact me by mail?
Thanks for you help!
